Fly by Jing delivers bold, versatile Sichuan-inspired condiments that, according to reviews, elevate everything from eggs and noodles to dumplings—Zhong Sauce and the OG Sichuan Chili Crisp draw repeated praise for layered umami, balanced heat, and everyday usability. Reviews also flag notable drawbacks: some find the chili crisp too oily, less crispy or milder than expected, with occasional smoky bitterness and jar leakage—plus comparisons to Lao Gan Ma or Momofuku on flavor and spice—and some mention inconsistent crunch and a need to stir.

Ugh
Too Salty!
I have enjoyed using this sauce however I wish I knew more recipes and ways to ultilize this sauce
I always have some sort of chili crisp on hand to add some much needed life to my cooking. I was excited to see that Fly by Jing was offering a few different sauces -- variety is the spice of life, n such. I purchased the Spicy Chili Crisp and the Zhong Sauce. The Spicy Chili Crisp is a classic delicious chili crisp -- lively and nutty in flavor without being too hot (despite the name). Serves to add depth of flavor more so than heat. I out it on the table for folks to use when my cooking needs something more...something I just couldn't figure out myself. The Zhong Sauce is a bit more of a sweet soy Unami sort of thing. I really see this sauce as a cooking hack -- an easy way to take a basic protein and whatever veggies you have on hand and make a meal happen. I have used it for easy flavoring of chicken and tofu - both as a sauce or marinade. I also use it as a base to add nuance to the flavor profile of quick salad dressings.

Spicy, but not too much, and crunchy! What a great combo!

Tasty sauces & unique spice mixes! Great foodie gift idea for someone who enjoys cooking. The price tag is a little too steep.
Honestly, it’s not bad it’s just not what I was expecting. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be a chili oil or just a sauce. I was expecting a more traditional flavor, so I mean get it it’s good, but just know that.
Love Fly by Jing. Great flavor for both the Zhong sauce and chili sauce. Lasts quite a while. I’ve tried their collaboration with Fishwife and it’s extremely tasty!
The flavors are much more rich than other chili crisps that I've had. There are other spices that really enhance the overall flavor. It feels much more authentic and adds a lot of flavor rather than just spice. It isn't very spicy though, nor is it very crispy (compared to the Momofuku chili crisp). Will definitely try some of their other items!

As avid chili oil fans, we were really excited to try a more premium version of our dumpling restaurant favorite. The colorful packaging is captivating and jumps off of the shelf. Unfortunately, the quality of this product paired to our less premium favorite. Upon opening the lid, the ratio of Sichuan Chili Crisp spices to oil seemed off. It was primarily oil, without enough spice/seasoning. Thus, we found ourselves digging to the very bottom for a better ratio, which eventually has left us with a jar of oil without seasoning. If Fly by Jing could improve the spice to oil ratio, this would be a winner. As it is now, and for the premium price, we will pass on future purchases.

in comparison to Laoganma or Momofuku, there's a lot less actual flavor (msg salty garlicy dried bean chunks) and rather it's more of a spicy oil. I'm sad because it says "crisp" but WHERE IS THE CRISP??? WHERE IS IT???
I love the branding but the flavour was just OK. I have the Sichuan Chili Crisp and it smelt incredible when I opened it, and while it is quite spicy I found the overall flavour to be pretty lacking compared to other chili crisps. I was also expecting to have that numbing Sichuan pepper sensation but I didn't get that. All that said, I'm still keen to try their other products.
The chili crisp is amazing and well worth it. The 3 pack that comes with the other 2 sauces/spices isn't worth it in my opinion, but a fun set for a gift if you have a foodie in your life
Was disappointed by the chili crisp, but the zhong sauce is fantastic.
I got a trio sample from an event! The zhong sauce on dumplings with a little bit of soy sauce… omg. Cant go back to eating dumplings another way again. As for the chili crisp, it’s sooo good. Compared to the original Lao Gan Ma chili crisp, it’s a bit darker, and a touch spicier. Buuuuut… idk if it will replace the original Lao Gan Ma for me. Maybe it’s childhood nostalgia clouding my vision? Lastly I just have to say I think Jing is an inspirational founder. From product to marketing I think what she’s built is incredible, and Im rooting for this brand!
UPDATE! It’s been 2 years since trying this, and I have to say that Costco hasn’t carried it for a while and I have been paying full price! It’s become a staple in my home. I was in a bind one night (ran out 😭) and target didn’t have any in stock. I tried another brand - it was as if I purchased tree bark as toilet paper. Like terrible mistake. Nothing has compared to fly by jing since trying it. ———————— Very very tasty! I purchased this at my local Costco. I have added it to many dishes from breakfast to dinner.

As much as I love this, I would not purchase it at the price point it’s at. At Costco it was 2 for the price of one making it worth it to try
I'm dying to try the dumplings but I can tell you that the chili crisp is spectacular, a staple, very worth the purchase. Get the XL and challenge yourself to find creative ways to put it to use, you won't be sorry! I recently bought the Momofuku chili crisp when I couldn't find Fly by Jing at the store and while it's good, I'm really missing all of the crispy bits that Fly by Jing just does so well.
I am so obsessed with this brand, especially the Sichuan Chili Crisp. Whenever I go to a Chinese restaurant, the chili oil they serve is my holy grail. I used to buy Lao Gan Ma chili oil (iykyk), but I'm a bigger fan of the Fly by Jing ingredients list. ...and the branding is fun to look at and it decorates my fridge nicely.

I have ordered the Chili Crisp, Zhong sauce, black vinegar, and Mala spice mix and all of them have been great.

Theres a whole lot of chili oils out there, this is one I buy again and again.

The jars leak. I am not a fan of the branding.
