Public Goods earns mixed reviews: many praise the clean, minimalist design and effective basics—from ramen and dish soap to shampoo and stoneware—while recurring complaints target the mandatory $79 membership model and inconsistent quality (leaky refills, watery shampoos, weak candles). Reviews indicate the brand works for aesthetically cohesive, lightly scented, non-toxic essentials, but buyers wary of subscriptions, plastic in refills, occasional stockouts, and hit‑or‑miss formulas should proceed selectively.
AI summary based on Thingtesting reviews
I like the simple and minimal aesthetic of the brand, however they feel just as meh as they look. None of the products i've used including hair care, body wash, multipurpose cleaner, etc... They all jsut feel pretty basic!
I've been a member of Public Goods since just after their launch and I couldn't be happier. The quality of the products are great, they are constantly expanding their product lines, and shipping times are usually pretty quick. I've had some issues accidentally signing up for a 2nd account and Customer Service was quick to reverse the transaction.

The minimum for shipping can be a bit high at $45 (it was $25 when I first joined)
I like the principle behind the brand and it's product range — simple, minimalist basics with a nod to design. On functionality and/or practicality - the products are inconsistent in terms of packaging (plastic) and refills could be a bit more elegantly packaged. Non-toxic, which is a nice to see! Standouts include: travel cosmetic kit (shampoo/conditioner et al), dental floss | on foods - split pea soup, vegetable chips and pasta. Bought the strawberry lemonade mix as a gift for a friend and heard no complaints. That being said, the brand definitely isn't easily accessible and committing to a membership may feel like a drawback.
Meh. Seems more geared to stocking an Airbnb than a home. Some products are great (ramen noodles, nuts, glasses) some are super mediocre. Overall feels like a well designed costco.
Not buying again.
I tried the hand soap that is meant to be an Aesop dupe and it is nothing like the Aesop hand wash. The scent made me nauseous and the texture was weirdly thick.

Tried quite a few items since they've come out years ago. While most basic things are great, I prefer personalized products when it comes to haircare and skincare to target problems.
I went to a bachelorette this weekend and they had public goods shampoo and conditioner. I was scared to use it especially after swimming because I have finicky hair that feels like straw unless I use certain brands and I was pleasantly surprised. My hair actually felt soft and dried not too frizzy after using.
I've tried a few different items and all were very nice basics. They're not memorable as being amazing in any way but I think that's the point. I also appreciated the nice minimal design.
Love the concept and love pretty much everything I’ve bought from them. Highly recommend this store for cleaning product, toiletries, and household essentials.
A big YES for Public goods! I love their home category - big YES :)
I've been using this brand for most household items since backing them on kickstarter (or indiegogo...I forget) years ago. I LOVE the simplicity. Everyone who comes over compliments us on the matching products, too!

It seems there's been such a focus on creating new products, you've lot sight of some of the existing ones. Lots are out of stock and I've seen prices go up, which is a bit of a bummer. I still love you, though.
Public Goods has an exceptional range of products and the quality is incredible for the price. Our home especially loves the Cedar & Suede candle. Smells sooooo good. I just recently purchased their pressed wood fiber cutting boards and they look ultra chic and work so well. The customer service is fast and responsive. Love this brand.

For me, the annual membership price for any brand is a stumbling block. There are so many services that require an annual membership and those costs stack. So, for me, that's the only reservation I have.
Good products for the price. Very solid quality. Would love a little more of a scent. The candles like the black currant (I believe is the name) lasts a while for it’s size, but the scent isn’t very long lasting and doesn’t permeate far into the room.

Make scents a little stronger.
I like the concept of the brand but I don't feel like the products are high quality. The dishwashing pods weren't very effective, the water bottle scratched very easily and now looks very ugly. The rest of the products I've tried aren't super memorable.
Public Goods offers exceptional products that are both eco-friendly and effective. Their minimalist packaging is aesthetically pleasing, and the quality of their goods, from household items to personal care products, is top-notch. Highly recommend for anyone looking to make sustainable choices without compromising on quality!
good basic set of products, soap smells great
One of the few brands I consistently order from. Their garlic and chipotle almonds are always in my pantry. The candles are fantastic and not overpowering, sold at extremely low prices. I use their spices and continue to order them. You can expect consistency from them.

The deodorant doesn't work.
I love the brand's commitment to sustainability, reducing plastic waste, and scaling their product offerings in a judicious manner. They are continually working with their supply chain to achieve this. I signed up for lifetime membership through crowdfunding website 4-5 years ago, and have been very pleased with their household brands and transparency to clean ingredients. The products also do work well. We have been very pleased with the products.

Continue to improve on supply chain to source more locally; CBD products are expensive that is why I have not bought them
