Reviews mention

  • Vibrant, giftable packaging design
  • Flavorful, smoky seafood selections
  • Ethical, sustainability-forward sourcing
  • Reliable, tender flaky textures
  • Small portions per tin
  • Occasional dry, chewy cod
  • Overly smoky, salty profiles
  • Unbranded, plain interior tins

Fishwife earns strong reviews for genuinely flavorful, high‑quality tinned seafood—standouts include Smoked Albacore Tuna, Smoked Rainbow Trout, and Fly By Jing Smoked Salmon—paired with dazzling, giftable packaging and a sustainability ethos. Reviews also flag meaningful drawbacks: small portions, frequent dryness or chewiness in cod and some salmon, a pervasive smoky profile that can overpower, unbranded “naked” tins, limited variety, and polarizing flavors; many find it best for special occasions rather than everyday use.

  • I got to try Fishwife at their first pop-up in LA, and I had a great time! Getting to try their fish with some other chosen items was pretty awesome, and it was a great first impression. I went with the smoked rainbow trout, and it paired perfectly with focaccia bread and butter. While I definitely prefer my fish not to be smoked, I still enjoyed it. I also really love the packaging for the tins. The little box it comes in is beautiful, and I kept mine and will reuse it to store small items in.

When I am used to paying less than a dollar for a tin of fish, charging $24 for three tins is hard for me to justify the cost, especially when I prefer non-smoked fish. I do love how the fish is sustainable, so if they are able to get the price down a bit, I would love this a ton. Also, maybe add some non-smoked options.

  • I got these in a sampler box and they are STUNNING quality. A little spendy, but it's a luxury product. Great for packing on a hike or adding to a salad or charcuterie spread. For special occasions not every day, due to the price. The trout though is fire. Smokey and fresh, not oily. I might buy that one more frequently...

  • amazing quality, something for everyone, and I love the packaging!! tin fish agenda is strong

  • Fishwife is EVERYTHING to me. I came for the gorgeous branding but I stayed for the incredible taste! I’ve tried almost every type of canned fish they sell and I can assure you it’s worth every penny. My favorite way to enjoy Fishwife is tossing it into a giant salad or straight up on some fancy crackers. I could eat this every day!

  • I love everything about this brand but I wasnt a huge fan of the cod that I got from the thing drop- was a bit chewy and didn't have a strong or salty flavor (my personal preference)! I am looking forward to trying more products and hope that they a little more flavor... but they are on the pricier end (I know its for tracability etc which I love so feels worth it as a treat)

  • I knew I would love Fishwife; I'm a hot girl who loves tinned fish (lol, kidding). I was particularly excited to try the Garza collab, because I do adore the Garza olive oil. The campfire code was rich, flavorful, and a small can packs a big punch. I used the cod to create a pasta dish that Fishwife newsletter shared and despite not being a hot girl who loves tinned fish, my husband raved about it. I hate how cute the packaging is, I don't want to throw it away! I couldn't incorporate this tinned fish into my regular grocery schedule, as it is a wee bit too expensive for me.

  • Incredibly delicious and clearly made with care. Ate it right out the can as suggested although their recommendations make a lot of sense... it would clearly be fantastic over pasta or any other medium. If you like canned fish, pretty much doesn't get better than this!

  • I am a sucker for packaging and as soon as this went on sale at Whole Foods I had to grab it! I've been loving the tuna in the spicy oil! I have yet to crack the salmon can! My only thing is it is a bit pricy compared to other tinned fish you will see at the store. But, when its on sale, I will always make sure to grab a few cans.

  • Not only is the packaging stunning, the fish is really high quality and flavorful. Took me a while to try FW because of the price point. I usually stick to Trader Joe's tinned fish. But this was such a tasty treat. Smeared on toast with labneh and lemon!! Excited to try the other flavors too.

  • These tinned fish are soooo good! I bought the 2023 Big Fish Pack so I could try a bunch of different flavors. The fish holds up over time and tastes so premium. The one thing I'll add is that it's pretty expensive for tinned fish, and there are still great brands at my local grocery store that I would purchase for more regular tinned fish consumption. This is a great special occasion snack!

  • As i expected, this tinned fish is absolutely next level. The smoked rainbow trout is incredible, amazing texture, and if you are new to the world of boujie tinned fish, this will indeed surprise you. I have a couple other tins I am saving for the right moment but each one ive tried has been amazing. I cant remember what kind of fish it was but a while back I had one that had Fly by Jing chili oil in it and it was incredible. I love tinned fish <3 and I love fishwife! Great company with quality and ethically sourced fish, and cute packaging!

  • THE CUTEST PACKAGING EVER. Seriously, opening up the package brought be joy. The fish is such high quality for canned fish. I love having this in my pantry for a quick meal. I either incorporate into pasta or put on toast. The tuna and salmon are my favorites <3

  • I love Fishwife! I am easily turned off by seafood if it is too fishy, but the smoked salmon I ate from Fishwife was not that at all. The salty and smoky flavors were rich and I really feel like you could tell the product made use of high quality fish. I am also a sucker for brand collabs so was excited when the Fishwife X Fly by Jing sku came out in 2022.

If it were slightly less expensive I would buy more often.

  • So cool! I love the packaging so much (even came with cute stickers!) and all of the artwork of the branding. I tried the Campfire Cod and it was so tasty. I made a pasta dish with it, but I could imagine a lot of ways to eat this! I'd love to try some of their other flavors. I also think their collabs are pretty cool :)

  • Best branding ever! Such a delight to open. Fish was really tasty too! I was so impressed with their customer service too-- I had an issue with my initial package not being delivered, and customer support was super helpful in getting me a replacement. Certainly pricey for tinned fish, but you can taste the quality. Would be great for a special picnic or lunch, or on a dinner party spread!

  • This was a great product the cod was not overly Smokey. And the online recipes were very useful

  • Love this brand – love the branding, love the product. Great flavor and feels high quality. I've tried the cod and the tuna. The delivery experience was a good one – stickers in the package and all branded materials (tape, box, tissue, etc).

My husband noted that despite being locked in moisture, the cod is still a little bit dry. Wish the fun branding was carried over to the actual tin, since I placed it directly on a charcuterie board. It's a little pricey for a typical tin that I would eat regularly, but good for a special occasion. (They're also quite hard to find in-store so not a typical buy for me.)

  • I love fishwife and am willing to go bankrupt for it. First of all, it's delicious. Second, it's like the easiest meal ever. Make a quick salad, toss it in a rice bowl - whatever you do it comes together in minutes. I haven't tried any of the recipes they recommended, but it's great that those are available. I also appreciate how transparent they are about their sourcing and love love the packaging.

I did find their collaboration with fly by jing to be so so. I would recommend just getting their smoked salmon and adding your own chili crisp to it. Saves you a few dollars, which can then be spent on more fishwife.

  • Even better than expected! Such a great snack. I wasn't really sure what to make with them so I just at it on a saltine cracker, which was perfect.

The boxes are cute but it's such a bummer to have a boring little tin on the inside! I wish the tins themselves were designed/printed on so I could display them on my shelf.

  • Really impressed by the look, feel and taste of Fishwife. It's making canned fish seem tasty and good for the planet. Not at all like how I'd associate canned fish from growing up. The trout was especially flavorful.

    More varieties would be welcome.
