Reviews mention

  • Luxurious personalized packaging
  • Customizable elegant fragrances
  • Detailed tailoring questionnaire
  • Noticeably softer, shinier hair
  • Inconsistent curl definition
  • Occasional drying formulas
  • Lightweight, underpowered conditioner
  • Potential scalp irritation/shedding

Prose earns strong reviews for customized hair and skincare that often deliver softer, cleaner-feeling hair, reduced frizz, easier detangling, defined curls, and healthier-feeling scalps; however, results vary, with some users reporting dryness, greasiness, or even increased shedding. Reviewers praise the detailed quiz, personalized scents, and luxe, name-printed packaging, while noting inconsistent curl performance, lightweight conditioners that can feel insufficient, and formulas that don’t always outperform standard products.

  • My daughter customized her own Prose shampoo and conditioner and she absolutely loves this brand. It makes her hair smell great and look great, too!

  • Waste of money. Didn’t do anything different than any other shampoo and conditioner.

  • I love the ability to customize the products based on your hair and the products smell amazing. Picking out hair products can be overwhelming and Prose makes it simple! I also enjoyed the minimalist packaging. I think it was a little pricey for this to be my “everyday” hair care.

  • I’ve done Prose a few times and thought their products work fine. I just can’t really tell if it makes a material difference from other shampoos and conditioners. I stopped using Prose and went to Japanese hair products for a fraction of the price

  • I absolutely loved the scent and would get a decent amount of compliments but found after re-ordering (so I used 2 bottles worth) it dried my hair out and it started to loose its shine. The hair mask also didn't seem to do anything apart from smell amazing unfortunately.

  • I've been a customer of their shampoo and conditioner for about a year now. I do love the way the products smell and feel but admittedly for being "customized haircare" I have not noticed any improvement in my hair. At their price point I wish it gave my hair a bit more oomph.

  • So I like the concept, though it did seem to lean towards female presenting needs than male. My goal was male pattern baldness. The product was fine for my hair, but my scalp and face ended up getting really itchy and rashy. I've had this happen with some other hair brands but haven't been able to figure out what the ingredient is that causes it. I relayed this information to their support team and didn't get much help unless I continued my subscription, so I cancelled and threw out the rest of the what I had.

  • Tried it for 8 months to make sure I give it enough time, but the improvements were little to non existence. I went chemically free for the 8 months trials btw. I was paying roughly $80/month and definitely don't recommend it. I also bought hair oils to compliment the shampoo, conditioner, pre-shampoo mask. I prefer my skincare and toiletries fragrance-free but their scents were barely noticeable.

  • Meh. Packaging looks great, scent is nice. Doesn't do much for my hair, unfortunately. Have had much better results with other brands.

  • I love so much about this brand, from the idea, to the packaging, to the scents. Its a great design and concept, the products just simply didnt deliver for me. I felt like the formula I was sent weighed down my waves and like I needed to was my hair more frequently (I can usually go 3 days between washes, and Prose made it every other day at *best*). The scent was also great, I genuinely loved using the product, but was unhappy with the results and ultimately took advantage of their (easy!) refund process.

    Feedback

The formulas or quizzes need improvement, as what I got just didnt work for my hair/scalp.

  • I have a hard time with custom hair product brands. It seems that most, Prose included, have some sort of base that's supposed to work for most people and then add ingredients based on your needs. However, it seems to leave off people on the end of the spectrum that have very frizzy, coily, voluminous hair. After trying Prose, I went back to my tried and true that specializes in curly hair. It probably works for _most_ hair, but I wouldn't go to them if you have very curly, frizzy hair.

I'd want the brand to do more research into different bases and ingredients that work best for my hair type.

  • The smell, the smell the smell!!! I love using their products because it lingers on my scalp when I’m with my man, and it takes care of the hydration portion of my tight coils! Defo black hair friendly

  • Customized shampoo and conditioner to your city/hair type. Not sure if I really noticed a difference between that and other products I’ve used. Fun to have your name on the product though - may be a good gift idea

  • Love these products love how they smell and how they feel you must try. It’s like luxury and a bottle.

  • I am currently in my third month using Prose products and still not completely sure that it's worth the cost for me. I don't see a huge difference in my hair texture versus my usual products, but I will say that my hair feels and smells great after using these products. I did however notice a big difference in my color treatment, which seems to have faded a lot quicker than normal since I started using Prose.

  • I have tried the shampoo, conditioner and scalp scrub. I’m going to say the smell (which you take a quiz to pick) was phenomenal. The product itself is pretty good. Is it just me or does it feel like expensive shampoo and conditioner never really feels worth it? I have scalp issues and nothing works. I don’t want to use anything that is toxic and have parabens, but when did shampoo start costing $70?

  • I love the idea of customized haircare but this didn’t work for me personally. I tried adjusting it a few times, and it just felt ok. Packaging and customer service are great though.
