Reviews mention

  • Gooey-centered, crisp-edged texture
  • Iconic chocolate chip walnut cookie
  • Generous, melty chocolate mix-ins
  • Quaint, friendly bakery experience
  • Overly sweet, cloying flavor
  • Dense, heavy cookie texture
  • Frozen versions notably less decadent
  • Limited, repetitive flavor selection

Levain Bakery earns glowing reviews as a destination for ultra-thick, gooey cookies that many call the best—especially the classic Chocolate Chip Walnut and Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip—yet feedback flags drawbacks like extreme sweetness, dense heaviness, and inconsistency versus frozen or shipped versions. Reviews also praise warm, fresh-from-the-oven texture, generous mix-ins, friendly shops, and standout breads, while noting limited flavors and that some cookies taste too rich, dry, or overhyped for certain palates.

  • I got an order of frozen cookies from GoPuff and was pretty impressed by how they baked up! Super gooey and tasted quite similar to gourmet cookies.

  • Dreamy, dreamy, dreamy! They are as incredible as everyone says they are.

They do keep for longer than I thought, so don't hesitate to buy a few. They will say fairly fresh in an airtight container for a few days after purchase.

  • the cookies are really fun to pick up and they taste great!

    Feedback

kind of expensive! i've also seen a bunch of people replicate them online so not sure i would get them that often

  • Best cookies ever! Dense, gooey and decadent. Quality ingredients.

  • Levain Bakery's chocolate chip cookie is nothing short of legendary. From the moment you take your first bite, it's clear that this is not just any ordinary cookie. The exterior has a perfect golden-brown crispness that gives way to an irresistibly soft, gooey interior, generously packed with rich, melty chocolate chips. The balance of textures is exquisite, with a slightly crunchy edge enveloping a warm, tender center that almost melts in your mouth. What truly sets Levain's cookie apart is its substantial, almost cake-like heft. Each cookie feels like a decadent treat, satisfying even the most intense sweet tooth. The flavor is deeply comforting, with a buttery richness and a hint of vanilla that perfectly complements the chocolate.

  • The best cookies I've ever had, tried them for the first time in 2014 and it was a life changing experience.

  • the cookies are flavorful, but I feel like they're a bit too thick & dry for me

  • Always a good idea. I now go for their vegan option — I wish that they would separate out the vegan and gluten-free alternatives, but certainly better to have something than nothing!

  • If someone asked me which cookie is the most luxurious, levain would win. The prada of chocolate chip cookies. Featured in vogue.

  • These cookies are really more like small cakes! One goes a long way and they are delicious. Great gift, always a hit to bring over for a dinner party!

  • Great cookies, but over the years, they're not as good as they used to be. Overall, they still hit the spot.

  • amazingggg! the chocolate chip is to die for. they are large and in charge and amazing with coffee. 10/10

  • Delicious cookies. I gave it a four stars due to price.

  • The chocolate chip is a classic but my absolute favorite is the peanut butter. It is a thick and gooey, definitely a hefty dessert or snack.

  • These cookies are worth every calorie, and every flavor is delicious. I personally love the regular chocolate chip (with walnuts) and the double chocolate chip, but you can't go wrong. The other pastries they sell in the bakeries are excellent as well. If you have never tried these, you should add them to your list. And be sure to have them fresh. The frozen ones they now sell are good, but not nearly as spectacular as the freshly baked cookies.

  • I LOVED the Levain cookie that I had fresh from the bakery so I was so excited when I saw them in the frozen section at Whole Foods. Unfortunately, those cookies were not even close to the original so I will be waiting until I am back in a place that sells these fresh.

  • Purchased the “bake at home” chocolate chip cookie…. It’s good and filled with chocolate chip. Great for the fall winter seasons and at home snacking. Cute date night idea!

  • My goodness. THIS IS MY WEAKNESS. I am obsessed with Levain cookies. They have the packages you can buy at Whole Foods, but the cookies are much smaller than what you would get from the bakery. I am signed up for their email marketing and they sometimes have free shipping codes. That’s when I bite. These cookies that are shipped from the bakery freeze WONDERFULLY. I actually cut them in half and freeze them individually. My favorite is their oatmeal raisin and chocolate walnut. YUM
