Reviews mention

  • Hilarious, high-energy gameplay
  • Simple, accessible ruleset
  • Engaging, social experience
  • Abundant, creative expansions
  • Explicit, polarizing content
  • Diminishing shock value
  • Occasionally outdated references
  • Audience-dependent enjoyment

Cards Against Humanity wins big in reviews for delivering uproarious, easy-to-learn party play that sparks belly laughs, quick bonding, and late-night chaos—especially with larger groups and expansion packs—so yes, it works. Reviews also flag clear drawbacks: humor can be crass/NSFW and alienating for sensitive or mixed-age crowds, cards lose shock value with repetition, and some prompts feel dated or hard to play with certain audiences.

  • This is such a fun game. While clearly made for adults and not children, it is an excellent game for get-togethers with friends. The vast amount of possible answers makes it so no two games are alike.

  • Cards Against Humanity is such a fun card game. We play it after dinners and at parties. It makes for a fun and hilarious time. It’s great for bonding and making memories. Definitely a good time and easy to play and quick to learn. Definitely worth the price.

  • What are some good alternatives to Cards Against Humanity?

I love playing Cards Against Humanity with friends over a few drinks, but after many years it’s starting to get a bit old… anyway, I’m looking for some fun alternatives for casual drinking games with friends! 🃏

  • Really great game for dinner parties and gatherings! Unconventional and funny! Also makes for a great hostess gift!

  • I've had some of the best fun playing this game with friends. It sucks that you have to pay for new sets of cards, so I usually just play the game digitally with friends instead of in-person with them. Overall, this is always a great time.

  • Overhyped and somewhat boring card game. It was all the rage a few years ago and, luckily for me, not as many people pull it out after dinner parties anymore. The crude, offensive humor is off-putting for some people so it's not a game that can be played with children or more sensitive older family members. If there was the option for a more family-friendly version, I'd be open to giving it another try.

  • Such a fun game to play with friends. You really get to know a person's sense of humor when playing. This would be a fun housewarming gift for your friends.

  • This game never gets old. If you ever want to liven up an evening with friends, then Cards Against Humanity is a great solution. I also love that you can download and print your own version for free. One evening with some friends visiting from Australia we decided to expand our set of cards - printing and cutting cards is way more fun than expected after a few G&Ts.

  • a fun classic game at this point - you definitely need the expansion packs if you play often since half the fun is the shock value of some of the cards but is a good go to game with friends :)

  • This is a great game! It never fails to bring out laughter when we have people over. I also really like that they have come out with expansion packs to keep the card variety up. Overall great game for a group event!

  • I used to play this game a lot in the past. I always found it funny. Over time though, it became hard to collect all the packs in order to keep the game new and fun

  • Cards Against Humanity is fun and can get really funny really quickly.

  • Undoubtedly this game is hilarious. There is nothing that really prepares you for your mother saying “bigger blacker dick” in the middle of a game. I do think this was a phase and is no longer a game I grab regularly

  • Amazing game to play with friends or family because of its ease and humor. There are definitely some x-rated, adult content cards so be prepared for that and maybe don’t play with minors or those that are more modest. I was always wondering how the company would evolve from its original product and their extender pack that refreshes a deck was a great addition to its product line. These cards are travel friendly for road trips and a good option when hanging out and doing something other than eating or watching movies.

  • I've played this game many times with friends throughout the years. It always ends in us dying of laughing. If you loved apples to apples as a kid, this is definitely a good game for you. A criticism I have is that some of the cards are a little too questionable, and are too racist to be funny. I understand they're trying to push the boundaries but it can get uncomfortable.

  • The game can be fun! However, sometimes my friends and I have to take out certain cards because it can be a bit too immflamatory , especially about certain historical events. I like that the company offers different card packs though, it makes switching out bad cards a breeze ( so that everyone can have fun without it being too much).

  • CAH is always super funny, especially to play in groups where you don't know every single person's sense of humor. The extension packs make it 10x more fun for those who have played the original so many times they've grown used to the standard cards.

    Feedback

Greater accessibility in buying extension packs! Maybe it could be worthwhile to update the main pack cards every once in a while too, just so the humor isn't stale or lost.

  • I would never play this game with family or acquaintances but with close friends it’s a blast. I get together with a group of friends to play this once a month and it’s always a fun time. The game definitely gets better with every additional expansion pack you buy, which can get pricey but is well worth it in my opinion. Overall it’s lots of fun if you have a sense of humor and aren’t easily offended by language or crude humor.
