I always look forward to BOTM! I have been using them for years. I am a huge reader. I even have a book instagram called @BookShelfbyLA. They have a great selection but it is heavily female-centered romance, thriller and family drama. I enjoy that you are able to preview the books and skip if the options aren't connecting to you. The add-on selection is also great and they provide funny bookmarks! The content team is very creative as their IG is one of my favorites to follow.

I would like if they had more options that would also appeal to male readers as well.
This is one of my most favorite subscription services ever. I love reading but i also love finding new and upcoming books, and this is the perfect way to do so at an incredibly affordable price.

Sometimes i wish there was more of a selection, and i run out of room for all the hardback books

I think the idea is actually great, but I think the outcome is terrible. Let me explain, so you get to pick a book every month from a selection of books, but don’t worry if there’s not a book that you seem to like then you can get a credit to add a book the next month. These credits do expire, and you can’t use them unless you have an active subscription. THEN let’s say every month the selection sucks, and you want to cancel but have all these credits and have other books picked out….here’s the kicker….you have to pick a BOTM in order to ship those other books. 🥲 I might just cut my losses and pick a book so I can just cancel with all my creds. Whoever is curating only seems to like thrillers/psychological, mysteries right now, and the other books from previous months were a little too “liberal” (that’s the only way to really describe it) for my taste. I just don’t like my books always having to highlight politics….I want an escape from this world, not living, reading, and breathing politics.

I've been a member since 2020 and it has helped me get back into reading. I don't know if I like the recent selections for the past 6 months, but it definitely helps you push past your comfort zones in different genres. Also they have different reading challenges and you can get free goodies from that.
This is the BEST gift for the book lover in your life. Giving a subscription for the year will ensure your friend or family member knows you think about them every month. The offerings are top notch, new releases and the price is very reasonable. I wish someone gifted it to me!

This is an amazing concept especially if you have a hard time picking what book to read next. I gifted this to my mom and she loved it because she selected the book she wanted. Amaxing concept!
I love BOTM! They have great selections, and their loyalty program is incredible.
This is the best subscription service! Hardcover books have become so expensive and these books are so cheap and amazingly curated. Can’t recommend enough.

They have a maximum amount of books you can order a month which sucks if you’re a big reader.

Must have subscription for book lovers! I love having the option to choose from 5+ different books each month and having discounted access to books on my TBR list. BOTM has some really fun perks & it's nice to be able to skip a month if I'm not into any of the featured books. Shipping is also insanely fast! I'll definitely be renewing my subscription when it's up.

I received a 6mo subscription as a gift, and I've managed to stretch it to a year between months that just didn't have something I wanted to read. They've had some real improvements, especially with the addition of audio books, and they really have expanded their selection. Might not be ideal for a heavy reader or library card holder, but for someone looking to discover new books or get into reading it's a really awesome service!!

Love that I get a sneak peek and first grabs at new book releases, and okay but limited back-catalog of add-on books. The savings really kick in once you've received at least 3 boxes and get a minimum of 2 books a month. Subscription management is super easy to skip, add on, select the books that you want. This is super worth it for me because I read at least 2-3 books a month. If you're a slow reader, just manage the subscription so the books don't pile up. Only docking a star because I wish they had a better offering of non-fiction, self-help, thrillers, and NYT best sellers. A lot of the book offerings seem heavily geared towards feel-good or love-type stories, and they're just not my cup of tea. Also shout-out to their customer service for shipping me a whole replacement box after the first one shipped to the wrong address!
BOTM has a solid selection each month! I appreciate the price for a hardcover book as well. And I love getting a free bonus book for my birthday and for the end of the year through their BFF program!
Great gift! I got this for my mom for mother's day last year and she loved it!
BOTM has great selections and I love the opportunity to add an additional book for only $10 each month! All the books are great quality and have nice cover art that looks great on my bookshelves :)
I'm an avid reader and after seeing BOTM all over bookstagram, I decided to check it out for myself. Fun fact: the brand initially launched as a subscription-based service in 1926! Cool to see how it evolved in this day and age. The book selections are pretty good but definitely seem to side with "trendier" books that people might be more likely to choose from. The price is definitely great, you pay much less for a hardcover book than you would at a regular bookstore. And BOTM is definitely amazing as a gift for someone else, as they offer subscription options for a few months at a time.

It would be great if there were more titles as part of the selection and I definitely think if the price for the subscription goes up any more, it wouldn't be as worth it to purchase. Overall, I see more value in gifting a subscription to someone else than buying one for yourself.
I got a yearly subscription to BOTM for my birthday, and it's been a fun treat to see what they select on the first of the month. I'm a HUGE reader, so it's a nice supplement to my unhealthy book buying addiction. It's hit or miss whether the monthly options are good or not - which is why it's great that they let you skip and month and have those credits roll over. I also enjoy the ability to do add-ons from their backlog - they have a tons in their library.

The selection has been sort of lame lately? I don't know if they've changed curation strategy or what, but for a while there it was hit after hit, and it hasn't been that way in a while. Because it was a gift, it's amazing to get a "free" book monthly, but I'm not sure I would pay full price for the service based on the last few month's selections.
I really enjoyed having book of the month, I had it for a while. I liked being able to go outside of my comfort zone and to try new books I normally wouldnt have thought to pick up. I also liked the monthly price. $10 for a brand new book is amazing. It was like a present each month

Would have loved more monthly choices.
I’ve been a BOTM subscriber for over a year and it’s one of my favorite things I pay for each month - I love discovering new authors and new books, and if for some reason I don’t like their curated picks, I can pick something else from their selection or easily skip a month. It’s also a great gift for anyone in your life who loves reading!

This is probably the best gift you can give to the reader in your life. I always put this on my Christmas wishlist as a high priority. They have a pretty good range of books/genres and sometimes even have (slightly) earlier releases. But seriously if you have a reader in your life l, GIFT A SUBSCRIPTION!! Books are so expensive and there’s nothing a reader loves like free/inexpensive books.

As an avid reader, I was really excited about Book of the Month. However, the options to choose from were less than exceptional. I also wish there was an option to choose paperback because I do not like hardcovers, nor the higher price for hardcovers. It has a lot of potential, but just missed the mark for me personally.

The kicker that made me never want to rejoin is just how ANNOYING the cancellation process is. Who still has to call to cancel nowadays??? Let me click a cancel button. If the cancellation was easier, I honestly probably would come back every few months or so. But you want millennials to CALL? Nooooope.
