Reviews mention

  • Convenient, portable meal replacement
  • Plant-based, dairy-free formulation
  • Broad, appealing flavor variety
  • Satiating, functional nutrition
  • Chalky, thick mouthfeel
  • Strong, lingering aftertaste
  • Occasional gastrointestinal discomfort
  • Inconsistent long-lasting satiety

Soylent draws polarized reviews: the brand reliably delivers convenient, nutrient-dense meal replacements that keep many users reasonably full on the go, yet taste and texture often disappoint. Reviews credit flavors like Creamy Chocolate, Banana, Mint, and Strawberry as standouts and note plant-based, non-dairy accessibility, but cite chalky thickness, strong aftertaste, occasional GI upset (linked to allulose), inconsistent satiety as a full meal, and packaging quirks like hard-to-open caps and easy-to-tear wraps.

  • Filling meal replacements. I've tried them since they first launched, with the plain, and those were pretty disgusting and unpalatable without adding something. But their new flavor line is pretty good. The coffee one is the best.

  • The texture was ok but the taste was very bland and it was hard to get down. It also upset my stomach. The packaging is kind of bland, almost looks like a store brand version of a product.

  • Solid vegan nutrition in a simple shake. A nice option for very busy times when you can't take a break to eat lunch. These shakes will give you the nutrition and energy you need. The Vanilla flavor is pretty good, but it's more about the function than the taste.

  • I feel that as the "staple" of meal replacement, soylent could do better. The taste is not so bad but I hate that they use artificial sweeteners. I am very glad they are plant-based, though, for sustainability reasons

  • I bought a case of these a while back, and haven't drank them in a long while. They're in my emergency kit, as I think that's when I'll appreciate them the most. I like the idea of a complete meal replacement drink in times when you just don't have time/energy to get real food, but they're not the tastiest in my opinion. Fine in a pinch!

  • Tried it once. Tasted good. Just very expensive.

  • I tried the Thai tea option and the flavor was very strange to me. It was not an enjoyable experience for me

  • Soylent was a really interesting product when it came on the market, and had tons of hype. However, I just don't know anyone who prefers or uses it often. It's okay in a pinch when it's available, but I'm not going out of my way to get it.

  • I had to use liquid meal replacements due to surgery so tried this. It was ok. I’d get it again if I had to but I won’t seek it out. Didn’t love the way it coated my mouth and was on the sweeter end.

  • Soylent got me through college, but when I didn't always have time to eat. It is super filling, so one bottle goes a long way. However, this should only be used in desperate situations. Nothing can replace the nutrients we get directly from food!!

  • Only tried the chocolate, but it's great! I have a pea + peanut allergy along side dairy. Finding a non dairy protein shake is near impossible. Soylent is great, makes me feel full and such a quick protein choice.

  • I have only had the chocolate one, but it was great tasted just like nesquick and didn't have the usual weird vegan after taste. It also kept me full for a long time.

  • Vile, chalky liquid of my nightmares. I resorted to getting a case of Soylent during some dark times where I was working too much and felt I just needed to get some nutrients in and this only exacerbated the profound sadness and drudgery of life.

  • The best I can say is that it tastes like the leftover milk from plain (unsweetened) Cheerios. Not offensive, certainly not mouth-watering.

I'd love for it to taste a little better...

  • Have tried Soylent a number of times over the year. It's not terrible, but it's also not my favorite. Heard the bottled versions are an improvement from the powder. Personally prefer solid food as a meal vs a smoothie, but for those who are indifferent or prefer smoothies, I can see the appeal as a quicker, more affordable meal.

  • You've heard about it. You've seen it. It's become a self-meme. But if you've tried it you know...it tastes like you'd expect Soylent to taste. Chalky, bland - it removes the joy from food. And I think we all deserve a little joy.

    Flavor and experience of consuming.

  • Love the flavors and how in a pinch, I can easily drink something that makes me feel nourished and healthy

  • My husband was an original Kickstarter backer for Soylent, so we've had it around for years. I just started using it for the past couple weeks - primarily when there isn't anything in the house I want to eat. I've also started packing it on trips. We recently spent a couple days at an amusement park, and Soylent was a great dinner after a heavy, greasy lunch. It isn't delicious, but it is fine. I recommend mixing it a couple hours in advance so the powder and water can really mix.

  • I thought that I didn't care about food and that taste didn't matter to me. Then I drank Soylent. The drink is so thick it is actively unpleasant to drink. I'm sure it was healthy, and I really wish I didn't hate the taste/texture so much, but unfortunately it's not for me.

  • These are good for people with appetite issues
