Reviews mention

  • Ultra-creamy texture ice cream
  • Inventive seasonal flavor lineup
  • Aromatic freshly-made waffle cones
  • Impressive vegan flavor execution
  • Occasionally cloying sweetness levels
  • Hit-or-miss experimental flavors
  • Heavy, rich mouthfeel fatigue
  • Pints less vibrant than scoops

Salt & Straw earns largely enthusiastic reviews for richly creamy texture, inventive seasonal combinations, and standout classics like Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons, Salted Malted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Chocolate Gooey Brownie, Honey Lavender, and Arbequina Olive Oil; the brand is good and often considered worth the line. Reviews also flag drawbacks: experimental flavors can be hit-or-miss or overly sweet/rich, some find hype outpaces taste, and pre-packed pints trail fresh scoops.

  • i love their baked goods + ice cream combos (pie, brownies) it's actually my standard for ice cream now and i love that the counters have basically unlimited samples.

  • Always yummy. Always innovative. Went into my neighborhood shop recently & saw they have dog ice cream now! He loved it.

  • I think Salt and Straw is super innovative with their flavors. I also feel like its not as good as the hype makes it seem. It's yummy ice cream with fun flavors but its not something I would go out of my way for.

  • Salt and Straw is my FAVORITE ice cream spot. I wish I saw pint distribution on the East Coast but every time I am on the West Coast I stop into their shop to get an ice cream: Lavender, Sprinkles, Waffle Cone

  • My favorite ice cream place to frequent. I don't think I've ever found a creamery so daring in their pursuit of unique flavors, but it's precisely why I'm a fan. Their vegan flavors aren't distinguishable from their dairy options either in my opinion.

  • So good! They have fun flavors (and wild ones too). You could literally host a party around this ice cream. Wish I lived closer to one of their shops so I wouldn't have to get it shipped. Try it!

  • It's definitely an experience, especially with some flavors that can be hit and miss. But the quality of this ice cream is to die for. You can definitely stay simple or try something like strawberry with balsamic glaze. The salted caramel one is delicious!

  • Well I live in PDX and so I have been here several times. It's always an utter delight what special flavors they have brewing. I love their coffee mix, and they have a seasonal marionberry pie that tastes just like marionberry pie with vanilla ice cream and it makes everything right in the world. Some things are not worth the hype- this is totally worth it.

  • They have some absolutely amazing staples - the salted malted cookie dough is one of the best cookie dough ice creams I've ever had, and similarly the brownie and honey lavender are delicious. A lot of their more experimental ice creams are terrible. The pear and blue cheese is really off putting, and a lot of their seasonal flavors are very hit or miss, with one or two tasty flavors and some experimental ones that are just gross. Props for experimenting, but a lot of the experiments just land flat. It seems like often they're trying to create something just for the novelty or weirdness aspect rather than something actually enjoyable. If you're in a location where you can stop in, it would be worth it to go in and sample some of the stranger flavors just to say you've tried them, but otherwise stick with the classics here.

  • Very unique, hand crafted ice cream. Their flavors are always above and beyond, and they'll often offer savory flavors to really switch it up for your tastebuds.

  • somehow no matter how strange the flavor is it's still delicious, always a fun place to stop and try some new flavors.

  • Tried them at Disneyland, and they are delicious. The aroma from them making their fresh cones makes it impossible not to step in. They have fun and innovative flavors, which while I am a basic chocolate lover, I really appreciate. Absolutely a worthy treat if they are accessible to you!

  • Incredible ice cream! Their classic flavors and their 5 monthly rotating flavors are executed at the highest level, and they are always trying to innovate to make the best ice cream around. We have been Salt and Straw fans for around 8 years. Their ice cream recipe book is also incredible. I have personally made at least 10 flavors, and they turn out great every time, sometimes even better than the ones in the shop.

  • Salt and Straw is reliably the best ice cream option in the store or neighborhood. Great mixins and customer service.

  • I lived a couple blocks from their Little Italy location in San Diego and there was always a crazy line around the block. I think their ice cream is okay, but nothing worth waiting in line for. They also make a lot of weird flavors for what feels like just the novelty of it. For instance they’ll do something like olive oil flavored or strawberry and feta. I can appreciate the attempt to push the envelope, but I won’t be reaching for those flavors any time soon.

  • Hey! I live down the street from their Arts District Shop and just grabbed a Cookie Dough Scoop in a waffle cone. Great product, I prefer the classic flavors, and their doggie ice cream is so cute and our baby loves it. Stellar service too. You keep doing you Salt and Straw!
