Reviews mention

  • Ultra-creamy texture ice cream
  • Inventive seasonal flavor lineup
  • Aromatic freshly-made waffle cones
  • Impressive vegan flavor execution
  • Occasionally cloying sweetness levels
  • Hit-or-miss experimental flavors
  • Heavy, rich mouthfeel fatigue
  • Pints less vibrant than scoops

Salt & Straw earns largely enthusiastic reviews for richly creamy texture, inventive seasonal combinations, and standout classics like Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons, Salted Malted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Chocolate Gooey Brownie, Honey Lavender, and Arbequina Olive Oil; the brand is good and often considered worth the line. Reviews also flag drawbacks: experimental flavors can be hit-or-miss or overly sweet/rich, some find hype outpaces taste, and pre-packed pints trail fresh scoops.

  • If you could see my daughter’s face in this photo, it would look like this. My husband and I love this ice cream shop and we love to bring our daughter to enjoy this sweet treat as well! We all love the chocolate gooey brownie flavor :)

  • Literally the most delicious-smelling ice cream there ever was! I know that sounds so silly, but there is a physical location in Coconut Grove in Miami and even walking around the corner or across the street you can smell this place. I was able to visit it when there was no one in it, which is unusual because it's usually packed with a line out the door. And the attendant was so helpful and guided me through samples. I purchased a pint of the Salted, Malted, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and it lasted two days at home with my husband and I. I'll say we were a little disappointed when reading the ingredients on the back of the pint because it was a noticeably long list with some hard to pronounce words/chemicals. Overall, the taste is great, the flavor selections wonderful, and I'll go back to get some for myself and a pup cup.

  • I have only been here a few times since I have to travel to the West Coast to indulge, but I always stop here. I love their unique flavor options, and the seasonal options, which I always have to try, even if they are a bit out there (e.g. baked brie and fig cheesecake). The taste and texture of the ice cream is so smooth and flavorful. Add a waffle cone to enhance the taste even more.

  • One of the OG “bougie” ice cream brands. I’ve been to their first location in Portland and many of their California ones and never leave disappointed! Their staple flavors are all great (my favorite is the sea salt with caramel ribbons) but it’s always fun to go in and experiment with their seasonal flavors! Sometimes if the timing allows, I’ll pick up a pint and savor the goodness at home :)

  • As an ice cream nerd, I geek out on Salt & Straw’s impeccable quality and creative flavors. I’ve never had a bad scoop there and their waffle cones are 🤌🤌 The Olive Oil flavor is a MUST TRY, and I always recommend exploring their monthly new flavors too

  • Having worked across the street from one, this place always has a long line and is worth the wait. Their seasonal flavors are also something to look forward too. They also partner with locals in the community for unique flavors, such as a coffee ice cream thanks to Panther Coffee

  • Absolutely delicious. A variety of really creative seasonal flavors to look forward to, and surprisingly good flavor combinations. Only gripe is that the price is a bit high, but I guess it makes sense for the quality.

  • So so so good! I am a frequent visitor of their SF location. The flavors are unique & so craveable. The candles they made are such a fun gift.

  • Delicious. When you walk by one of their locations, the smell of their fresh ice cream immediately wants you to run in and buy a double scoop.

  • Salt and Straw makes amazing products. The taste is great and ingredients are good. A little goes a long ways, I enjoy the flavor combinations they have.

  • I used to like going here in the past but recently the flavors have been overwhelming and not good quality

  • Really fun and decadent ice creams. I used to go to the one in San Francisco on Filmore. Always excited to try the seasonal flavors. I will say the one with turkey skins is not for me but I appreciate them branching out and trying new things.

  • Tasty overpriced ice cream but you certainly can tell the difference in ingredients. Personally I am more of a gelato fan and if going for ice cream I'm reaching for van leeuwen before salt and straw. Overall it's always a pleasure to enjoy their ice cream and I give them credit for coming out with some seasonal flavors.

  • Salt & Straw is perfect for a late-night date! Their ice cream is next-level, with creative flavors that you can’t find anywhere else. Whether you’re sharing a scoop of their unique seasonal flavors or sticking with a classic like Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons, it’s such a fun and indulgent experience. The vibe of the shop itself feels cozy and casual, making it the ideal spot for winding down after a night out or just having a sweet, relaxed moment together. It’s the kind of place where you can share flavors and laughs, making it the perfect late-night date spot.

  • One of the best ice cream brands. High quality. Cool flavors. Always delicious.

  • I always love spotting their flavor of the month on their social media. I think November they'll have another thanksgiving inspired taste like turkey and gravy which you really don't see it anywhere else! I like their unique branding and their signature flavors are also good. A little expensive than other ice cream shops but the quality is worth the price.

  • Innovative flavour combinations (standouts include: Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper! Pear & Blue Cheese!); but, the ice creams verge on being way too sweet. More balance needed - which'll do justice to their fun flavour combinations and lovely formulation (creamy, not too ice-y)

  • Salt and Straw have really fun combinations but it’s incredibly sweet and everything tastes the same. There’s too many things in the ice cream and not really that good. I prefer Van Leeuwans.
