Reviews mention

  • Eco-conscious aluminum packaging design
  • Herbaceous, refreshing product scent
  • Travel-friendly compact containers
  • Concentrated formulas use minimal product
  • Tricky emulsification learning curve
  • Inconsistent lather and residue
  • Occasional dryness or irritation
  • Fiddly lids and caps ergonomics

Everist earns mixed reviews: its concentrated shampoo, conditioner, and body wash impress with fresh herbal scents, travel-ready tins/tubes, and results that leave many hair types soft, shiny, and clean, but others report greasy residue, dryness, scalp irritation, and a learning curve to find the right water-to-product ratio. Reviews praise eco-conscious aluminum packaging, minimal waste, and long-lasting formulas, yet note hard-to-open lids, tricky caps, inconsistent lather, and some products underperforming on thick, curly, or color-treated hair.

  • I have only used a handful of times but so far I like this product. Its packaging is amazing first of all. It comes with a metal "key" so you get every drop of product. I have the conditioner and use it mostly as a hair mask. It smells so good and kind of minty. It just feels very clean and not super artificial. I would be curious to try the shampoo too! My only con is the size if I were to use each product as my daily shampoo and conditioner but as a mask- it will last me a while!

  • Love the whole line. There's a learning curve to using it (I struggled the first few times) but once you get it, it's great. Quality shampoo that doesn't leave my hair feeling dry, and the new deep conditioner formulation is a winner. I prefer the screw tins rather than the squeeze, and my only complaint is that if you forget to loosen the lid or cap before you get your hands wet, expect to have to fully dry your hands and the container. Better ridges (like a gear shape) or something would help wet hands open these, even the squeeze tube caps could use a redesign for accessibility. I travel often, and the travel size tins are a constant in my dopp kit.

  • I decided to give this brand a go. So far I have tried the shampoo and conditioner. Both smell nice and it’s pretty easy to use. The tube is a bit weird as the key doesn’t twist it evenly so I’m worried I’m losing product. I have hair that is slightly longer than shoulder length so the 1” of product doesn’t quite work, especially for the conditioner. I’m probably at almost a 1.5 to 1 ratio on conditioner to shampoo which sucks (because it’s not different from just bottled stuff in that sense). Shipping is terrible. I expect it’s great if you’re in Toronto but, being in Alberta, it takes up to 2 weeks to reach me when it’s in stock. I fully believe it’s a problem of the company (FleetOptics) but it basically discourages me from wanting to continue buying. Generally I feel like the product is good for my hair otherwise. UPDATE: Shipping pain is resolved. Been using this stuff for months and I love it. Also love the body wash too. Don’t get the tubes. Get the tins. Way easier to dispense.

  • When the brand first launched, I bought the 3 pack of shampoo, body wash, and conditioner. At the time, I wasn't very impressed - it was cool in concept (waterless concentrated body care), but the execution wasn't the greatest beyond the aluminum tube and recyclable cap. When it had first launched, not many other beauty companies were focused on packaging sustainability, and Everist focused a lot of their marketing efforts on educating about the infinite recyclability of aluminum (and not so much on their formulas - something that they've even talked about during their recent marketing email!). The actual product itself was lacking, though, even though the ingredients were impressive. And the conditioner was especially a horrible experience, making my hair extremely dry. I love the brand's commitment to listening to their customers' concerns - they revamped their formulations and have also released tin packages. I was able to try the revamped Deep Conditioning Concentrate through a Thingdrop and I'm so so impressed at the difference between its first iteration and now. It works better than my fully liquid/bottle pump conditioners, and has a very pleasant texture and smell (especially compared to the first version). I've also seen that they've revamped the Shampoo concentrate as well with even better ingredients, and I'm super excited to try that in the near future! As someone who breaks out with most other shampoos, I can only really use something like SEEN haircare. But the original shampoo and both the conditioners have not broken me out, so again, very excited to try the new shampoo. I'm under the impression that the body wash formula hasn't changed, and I remember really enjoying that one. It foams up really well so it's just as great or even better than most liquid body washes. I've only tried these in tube forms, so I can't say much about the tin packaging, but I'd imagine that they are better for travel. The tiny cap sometimes bothers me in the shower and it can take a few tries to screw on just right. Otherwise, love love love this brand and its commitment towards sustainability, great formulas, and listening to their customers!

  • I got the haircare travel duo from the thingtester promo, and it was around $14 at whole foods for two small tins (shampoo and conditioner). I've been using them at the gym after swimming, and the containers are super convenient to use for that purpose. I think I've used them 5 times so far, and I probably only have one (maybe two) more use left, based on how much product I found I needed to use to get my hair clean and conditioned. The smell of the shampoo was fine, nothing remarkable but I usually prefer less to no scent. The conditioner smelled amazing though- still subtle, but reminded me of the botanical smells of Aveda products. Overall, this travel set seems like a pretty poor value- I have some mini shampoo and conditioner bars from another brand that I may use these tins to store going forward, and see how long those last me compared to these concentrates.

  • I have wanted to try Everist ever since I first saw it on the Thingtesting site, so I took advantage of the "try new things" offer. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. Although I have not tried another "haircare concentrate," I have tried a variety of shampoo and conditioner bars and Everist did not measure up. I tried it on 3 or 4 different occasions to make sure I was giving it a fair test, but the shampoo left my hair feeling greasy. I followed the directions regarding the amount needed and also played with trying different amounts. Since I have extremely short hair, I felt like I should need much less of Everist than of another shampoo, but that wasn't the case. My results with the conditioner were slightly better than with the shampoo, but I couldn't find much difference between the amount I needed to use of Everist with the amount of my favorite Davines conditioner--which comes in a square plastic box and is applied in a similar way, but works much better, especially for the price. The packaging for the sample sizes is very cute--it comes in small, flat tins--and the packaging for the full size is lovely as well. I appreciate Everist's mission of low-waste and I will keep using the conditioner I purchased, but I won't be using the shampoo.

  • I wanted to love Everist, because I'm a frequent traveler. Being able to save space in my toiletry bag for concentrate shampoo & conditioner is a big win for me. Unfortunately, this was not it. This is my first time using concentrate so my ratio may have been off, but I felt like I could never get enough product in my hair. I tried it for 3 washes over the course of a week and ultimately chucked the travel tins because they are too difficult to open and use in the shower (cue much frustration), and I could never get the concentrate to lather or fully cover my hair. To their credit, their customer service is lovely, but they also took weeks to ship my product because one item was out of stock and they never notified me until I reached out and asked what the shipping status was. Great great concept, fell a little flat in actual product for me. FYI, I have thick, long Asian hair. Not sure if that was a factor.

  • I really wanted to love these because I love the idea of them being more eco-friendly. The packaging is really cute and travel-friendly. It felt like I had to use a lot more than suggested though to get my hair clean. I have to admit though - I am a novice with solid shampoos and conditioners and may not have been doing it completely right. I definitely would be willing to try something similar out again - it might be useful if they had tutorial videos or a little pamphlet with more info on how to correctly use!

  • I wanted to try this for a bit before writing a review, but the deep conditioner works fairly well for my hair. It brings out more volume and curls than a normal conditioner for me. I like that these are great for traveling with and the tube comes with a key. At first, I wasn't so sure it was going to hydrate my hair but I was pleasantly surprised! The cap for the tube is a bit hard to put back on in the shower, and the same goes for the concentrate in the travel size tin's lid. I also probably wouldnt use this as my regular shampoo and conditioner.

  • I like this conditioner—it left my hair soft, was easy to use, and I like that it’s low-waste. I honestly wasn’t impressed more than I am with my traditional conditioner, though. The design is fun and I love the tube key! I would potentially buy it again, especially since it’s conveniently sold at Whole Foods!

  • Really different conditioning product and worth trying out. I don't know much about glycerin and why it should or shouldn't be in my hair. Still playing around with how often I use it (too often causes buildup) but like having this product! I enjoyed the scent (mild).

  • Thick AF conditioner that really changes the texture of my hair... At least while I'm in the shower. I have only used Everist twice since I ordered it through Thingtesting. What I've read and what I've experienced makes sense and I really do like how it leaves my hair. I definitely need more time to suss out if Everist is worth it, but I'm digging all of the things. I love that the tube came with a metal key that slides onto the tube to help ensure you get every last drop of the time. The packaging is simple but there is no need for fancy. I have a lot of hair and each strand is coarse. I need conditioners that are thick. Like mega thick. That's what Everist is for me. I want to really examine the long term benefits of using it. When I have at least a month's worth of experiences with it, I will edit my review, to further expand on my experience. This does not feel like drugstore conditioner at all. The average price of the tube is reasonable. I got to try it for half off but I may have purchased it regardless of whether I got a discount or not. I can speak to the value, and as of right now, I'm really happy with the product as of 09/28/23.

  • I like it! I try to be as ecofriendly as possible so I've been doing shampoo/conditioning bars for a while and I thought I settled on my favorite but after trying my sister's plastic-bottle shampoo/conditioner one time (I can't remember the brand) and having my hair feel great, I've been on the hunt for a more sustainable liquid product. This isn't having the exact same effect but it's definitely closer.

  • Takes some time to get used to how much product you need, but generally love the smells and feel of my hair after using it. I take it on travels and it is much more convenient than regular shampoos.

  • I love the packaging (it is not only pretty but also better for the planet). Because it is waterless formula I can bring it on long trips. Gamechanger! I also love the clean ingredients, the mild scent, and how easy it is to use. You need a lot of water to activate lather for the shampoo, but the consistency of the conditioner is perfect as is (I have 3A curls). My only issue with the formula is that it has glycerin (great for many hair types but not mine), which weighs my hair down so I need to wash it in 2-3 days as opposed to my usual 3-4 days. However, my hair still looks good and this will absolutely be my go to while traveling. I received the deep conditioner on Thingdrop but I bought the shampoo from Whole Foods to test them together.

  • I’ve been using for a couple of weeks now and no complaints! Love how it’s better for my hair and the planet. First time using a twist thingy for the tube and it’s been easy!

  • So far I am loving my Everist mask. I have thick, curly, frizzy hair and this helps tame that frizz and keep it moisturized. The mask has a light minty scent and is super thick! That does make it a bit challenging to distribute when you have a lot of hair that sucks up product but I managed. Also, the packaging is stunning and feels luxurious.

  • I have chronically picky hair. The second a product doesn't agree with me, it's nothing but dry ends and oily scalp. I was a little skeptical about Everist, just for that reason. But I was happily surprised! Definitely a bit of a learning curve in terms of the amount to use, but I had the softest blowout of my life!! Highly recommend, especially going into the colder season!

  • I love the key and packaging and subtle natural peppermint smell. I’ll be using this as a weekly hair mask and have been using it more frequently to start. It feels like a nice ritual and needed for hair health—hard to say if it’s drastically changed my hair as of now but I think over time it will keep my hair healthy at length.

  • I like this product! I don’t think I used any less than I would with a normal condition, but it was great for my hair.
