The Farmer’s Dog earns polarized reviews: many report healthier coats, better energy, calmer digestion, and enthusiastic eating, while others cite gastrointestinal upsets, greasy texture, and no improvement versus kibble. • As much as I hate to say it, I would consider myself a vain person. But I would literally shave my head if it kept my dog alive and healthy longer. I love my dog. She was starting to have some skin issues as she ages along with her vision declining so I decided to try this food. I am so glad I did! My girl is zooming again and thriving- her vision has gotten better somehow? And her skin issues- gone. The ONLY reason I didn’t have it 5 stars is bc it is a bit more than regular dog food but my goodness is it worth it!

  • I'm absolutely obsessed with this brand! It's like a magic boost for my dog's energy levels. Sure, it can be a tad pricey, but for us busy folks, it's a fantastic investment! My pup can't resist the turkey flavor – it's her absolute favorite!

  • My new puppy Koda loves his Farmer Dog meals. He's already tested turkey and can't get enough! The packaging is great and the meals look delicious.

  • Tried this to help my dog with some issues he was having. He LOVED the food but it takes up an insane amount of freezer space, is expensive, and just overall impractical.

  • I didn’t read all reviews but I’m shocked to see them lower. Maybe because the price? I don’t know but my dog was obsessed with the food. I can’t afford to keep buying it unfortunately.

  • Farmer's dog has top-notch packaging, ingredients and mission in-mind. I really do think that healthy dogs deserve healthy food, and that doesn't always just consist of kibble. I think The Farmer's Dog is doing it right, but the price point is generally high for the everyday consumer which makes me sad. I'll happily splurge on my pups, but some people don't have that luxury and I wish they'd consider a fairer pricing system. My dogs are picky eaters, they like chicken and rice cooked by us, even more than they liked Farmer's Dog. That unfortunately was the reason we stopped purchasing.

  • Prefer pet plate. Price is comparable and dogs enjoyed both. Packaging is cumbersome

  • Couple reasons for this rating: Caused upset tummies and diarrhea in both my pups. No matter the protein source/flavor. And you ended up wasting in my opinion a large amount of food trying to get it out of the packaging. Their shipping process I sometimes questioned arriving no longer frozen product. Which in my opinion is not good to then feed my pups. We have tried a couple different fresh food companies and this is one of the only ones that caused diarrhea/vomiting. We have found a new brand that we have been with for a couple months no problems.

  • While we appreciate the vision of this brand, the food did not agree with our dogs, giving them loose stools. Also, the food is fresh but smelly! and a bit messy to serve, especially in smaller portions.

  • I was thankful enough to receive the farmers dog during their Black Friday deal for free. I love the brands mission and purpose, but I believe their products are extremely overpriced. They use great ingredients and our pups loved the food. Make sure you follow through with the “introduction” meals portions so your pup doesn’t get sick!

  • The Farmer’s Dog offers a fresh approach to pet meals with its personalized, high-quality dog food. However, it might not be the best option if you're budget-conscious. The cost is high for what you receive, and the portion sizes left my dog less than satisfied. he was actually pissed when he saw what i put in his bowl! The packaging can also be a hassle, as re-sealing the bags creates a bit of a mess. If you're keen on providing fresh meals for your furry friend, it might be easier and more cost-effective to buy your own ingredients and prepare them in a crockpot. Overall, while the concept is great, there are more practical alternatives.

  • My dog absolutely LOVED this food! However, I wish you could have some say in the preportioned sizes. For us, it was 2 servings in a package, which then got a bit messy to serve. Plus, the vet then put him on a diet, and I felt like I didn’t know how to appropriately reduce calories. Still would recommend if you can afford it!

  • Pros: • My picky Great Pyr LOVED the taste of The Farmer’s Dog. • His allergies and skin flare ups were basically gone when he ate FD. • His stool shrunk and didn’t smell as bad! This is probably my top pro, I could see the difference in how his body digested real food. Cons: • Weighing close to 100 pounds, the cost was a little more than I would have liked, but understandably, its quality. • Takes a little pre-planning when traveling. I’d store his food in a cooler or ship his food to where we were going. We have since transitioned to a raw food diet but it’s great to know The Farmers Dog is there if we ever need it again.

  • My Tula took one whiff of the food as I was opening it for her to try, and, boy did she engage! She jumped on me, pulled at my pants legs, was spinning and continued until I placed it in her spot! When I turned to her after putting the packaging on the counter, she was done!! 😮 She hoped it was HER food every time I opened the frig! She was fine eating the food enjoyed every single bite! As soon as I read about the company’s mission I was sold! However, I feel the food is very expensive, even more expensive than the ‘expensive’ food we were already serving her. I wish she could have a diet of The Farmer’s Dog…but price is an issue for us.

  • Love the vision and the mission of the brand but both of my dogs did not handle their food well.

  • Love this company, it's branding and packaging. My dog is OBSESSED, it's very straightforward and easy to use. I really love the eco-friendly packaging it comes in and the biodegradable cushions.

The package that holds leftover food packets! Once it get's dirty, it stays dirty and worries me about potential bacteria and/or mold

  • My pup wakes me up at 7 am to get breakfast and starts staring me down again at 4pm for her dinner... She's obsessed with The Farmer's Dog. She's 7 years old been on the food for 3 years and people constantly think she's a puppy based on how healthy her coat looks, and how much energy she has!

    Packaging/portioning but I know they're working on it :)

  • I wish I could afford this to feed to my three dogs regularly. They love it and I feel good about the fresh ingredients. For now it serves as a meal topper

  • My dogs are spoiled BRATS because of the farmer's dog - in a good way :) They have health restrictions and digestive issues, so this is a perfect solution to cooking them "people food" every night. The farmer's dog is def more more of the high-maintenance pup. It is pricey, but we do what we can for our loved ones. Also a great conversation starter at dog parks! I have gotten my friends to switch to farmers dog!

  • We tried feeding our little pomeranian The Farmer's Dog food for over a year. At first we got a shipment of all of the flavors they have, and tried each one. She wasn't too crazy about any of them, and we figured she would adjust to one or more over the coming weeks. She would only eat this food if she was VERY hungry, and even then the suggested amount of 1/4th of a pack for a day was just too much. She wouldn't even finish 1/8th of a pack. We tried all of the tricks at TFD website: heating the food, adding parmesan cheese (!), etc. Nothing really worked. TFD wanted to keep sending food, but we were less than halfway through the starting packs. Fortunately the website allows you to delay shipments indefinitely. We kept feeding her for several months, but she wouldn't eat TFD food. After a while we mixed in Hill's kibble for small dogs, and she would pick the dry food out of the bowl, leaving TFD. One day, I bought a couple of small tins of Cesar. My wife was astonished when the dog wolfed down this food immediately. Her coat condition and happiness improved immediately. We cannot recommend TFD. It is far more expensive and, for our pom, far less healthy, than the pet food sold in the supermarket. We have found that most Vet recommended brands like Purina, Hill's, and Royal Canin are palatable for our little pom, and we feed a mix of dry and moist food.
