The Farmer’s Dog earns polarized reviews: many report healthier coats, better energy, calmer digestion, and enthusiastic eating, while others cite gastrointestinal upsets, greasy texture, and no improvement versus kibble. Strengths include visible, human‑grade ingredients and attentive, compassionate gestures, but repeated complaints target messy, non‑resealable packaging, strong odor, freezer space demands, and inconsistency in texture or batches—making it effective for some dogs yet impractical or unsuitable for others.

Great for those picky eaters! My pups go wild for dinner time knowing they are getting a delicious meal that is hearty and full of nutrients!
I use the diy packets and recipes from farmers dog. My babies love it and they are healthy and happy.

Ive been using this product for more than 2 years now. Both my dogs are always excited to eat it and Ive noticed much less health issues than when i was feeding them dried kibble. Their customer service is outstanding!!
I tried The Farmer's Dog for about a month for my husky. He immediately loved the taste. Prior to this, he was on the Blue Mountain brand, which unfortunately led to high blood pressure and thyroid issues, causing him to feel lethargic and unwell. I switched to fresh food in hopes of rejuvenating his energy. While The Farmer's Dog was a positive change, it was only when I tried another fresh food brand that I saw a significant increase in his vitality. If it weren't for this noticeable difference with the other brand, I would've gladly continued with The Farmer's Dog
It's really high quality food and really does make a difference in dog coat and health etc etc - but the SMELL is so terrible we had to switch foods for our dog. Also, cleaning the bowl thoroughly after every feeding is really time consuming. Sometimes we would forget to add the new pack to the fridge for defrosting and it would be a whole ordeal. If you have a lot of time and don't mind terrible smells, I would recommend it, otherwise just cook your dog food from scratch if you don't want them to eat kibble
changed my dogs hair gray!!
High quality, personalized dog food that our dog LOVES. Comes in a reusable cooler bag (great for grocery shopping) on dry ice so it's fresh when it comes.
Feedback
Not the most sustainable - lots of packaging. Takes up a lot of freezer space. Very expensive (we use this as a "treat meal" for our furry friend)
After tasting The Farmer's Dog, my pup won't eat anything else! He loves it! I was also super-impressed with the customer service. I needed to cancel an order due to a last-minute trip emergency, and they took care of it immediately - even though my order had already shipped. I can't say enough good things.
Feedback
The bags that contain the food are a little hard to handle.
The process of getting set up with a subscription was easy and our puppy loved the food. But the user experience, cost, and prospect of traveling with Farmer's Dog made us look for an alternative for the long term.
Feedback
The amount of packaging needed to keep the food frozen felt excessive for something we'll be ordering for over a decade, and the user experience of de-frosting and squeezing out portions wasn't ideal. We weren't sure how traveling with frozen packs of meat would work either.

I love the mission, what they stand for and how they started a movement for fresh dog food in the states. But when compared to other fresh food, TFD looks squashed and mashed — my dog is not excited about the food at all. I can’t really see any of the ingredients as well. Love their fast shipping though.
My dog enjoyed the food; however the packaging wasn’t ideal for a little dog. If they made a smaller packaging option I would consider using this brand again.
I had a great experience with this company, however my dog is so darn picky, I ended up wasting too much of the food. The food they prepare is looks fresh and tasty (in my opinion not my dogs). The packaging when I did use this I recall not being very environmentally friendly which was a bummer but they may have changed since I did use it.

Okay, so my dog Sophie is a real princess. She's a picky eater and turns her nose up at just about anything that doesn't meet her high standards. I swear, she's like a food critic in dog form. But I gotta say, Farmers Dog has been a game changer. Sophie actually gets excited when she sees the delivery box, which is a huge improvement from the usual "meh" response we get from other dog food. The ingredients are top-notch, too. I mean, I've seen some dog food that looks like it was made from the sweepings off the floor of a meat packing plant. But with Farmers Dog, it's all human-grade meat and vegetables. It's like a gourmet meal for dogs.
Feedback
The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is because of the price. I mean, it's not exactly cheap. But I figure, if it keeps Sophie happy and healthy, it's worth the extra cash. And the convenience of having it delivered straight to my door is a huge plus. So if you've got a picky eater like Sophie, I definitely recommend giving Farmers Dog a try. Your dog might not give it a standing ovation, but they'll definitely appreciate the upgrade from their usual kibble.
Food comes packaged well, my dogs love it. You can see the fresh ingredients. It's a little annoying to get out of the package past the first serving, and it would be nice if there were quarter markings on the bag to help with portioning. I just end up marking it myself with a sharpie, but it doesn't mark very well.
Too much protien.. dog got very sick
My dog loves this food. I bought the trial and then after seeing how excited she got for meal time I felt like I had to continue to subscription.
For years, I struggled to find a food that would give my dog zero issues as he has a very sensitive stomach. I tried several high quality brands of kibble and freeze dried foods. Eventually he had to be put on prescription food and although it worked, I wanted to know he was being fed natural ingredients. I took the quiz on the website and haven't gone back since. Since Farmer's Dog, he has had little to no issues and absolutely loves breakfast and dinner time. Truly has been a game changer.

Stay away from FD!! My dog liked it at first but then started starving himself before eating it again. The packs come inconsistent in color and texture. Soggy super mushy! Every time there are throw away packs because it just didn’t look right. So freaking expensive to not be what you ordered!!! I see why some people’s complaints are medical issues. I wish some agency would look into all these negatives against FD!!! It’s highway robbery to do what they’re doing and endangering some people’s dogs!! I can make something much better for much less!!! Do yourself a favor and don’t believe everything on there ads!! If you decide to order you’ll eventually see for yourself!!! Consider yourself warned by more than just I. If you love your pet make or buy something safe and consistent. It shouldn’t break the bank to feed your dog healthy. Thank you for reading. 🤞🏽

This isn't fresh food. First and foremost, fresh food doesn't look like this. This is no different from canned dog food. After my dog eating it for 4 months, I noticed my bull terrier would have very gooey stools and diarrhea almost everyday. At first I thought it was contamination from other dogs since I was letting my dog out in my front yard to do his thing etc. As that's what the vet had mentioned to me that its contamination from other dogs. After the 4th month of still feeding my dog this product, I decided to change his food since I didn't want to keep giving my dog medication for his gooey stools and diarrhea. The moment I changed his diet, his gooey stool went away and no more diarrhea. This food isn't healthy for dogs, yes it's better than feeding them kibbles, but I would rather just feed my dog straight ground beef and ground turkey with rice and vegetables. It's way cheaper and natural and my dog doesn't have anymore issues. Would not recommend his brand as "Fresh Food", but would consider it like CANNED FOOD.

My 2 dogs have only been on The Farmer's Dog for 3-4 months. I came here looking for reviews because I've recently noticed whole garbanzo beans in one of the dog's poos. The other dog only eats the Chicken Recipe which doesn't have garbanzo beans. Obviously, the beans aren't being cooked thoroughly. I've emailed The Farmer's Dog to look into the matter, and hopefully it gets remedied. In the meantime, I'm smashing the beans with a fork before serving. She's a small dog and I've been concerned about the larger chunks of meat in the recipes too, which I've also voiced to TFD. After reading the first few reviews, NOW I'm concerned with liver issues associated with the food. My older dog has elevated liver numbers and takes a supplement to keep it from getting out of control. Her numbers started rising before introducing TFD food, but still, it's concerning. I really don't want to be naively harming my dogs' health in my effort to give them something I see as 'nutritious and natural'. I really don't know what to do.
