Reviews mention

  • Creamy, luxurious mouthfeel
  • Reliable, barista-grade frothing
  • Smooth, neutral oat flavor
  • Versatile, beverage performance
  • Additive-heavy ingredient list
  • Seed oil, rapeseed inclusion
  • Occasional digestive discomfort
  • Sometimes overly sweet taste

Oatly impresses in reviews for café-worthy performance—its Barista Edition froths reliably and delivers a creamy, smooth texture that elevates coffee, matcha, and lattes—while dividing opinion over formulation. Fans praise the rich mouthfeel, neutral-to-oaty flavor, and versatility across baking, cereal, and smoothies; critics cite seed/rapeseed oils, gums/additives, sweetness, and occasional digestive upset as drawbacks. Overall, Oatly is considered a top-tasting, highly consistent oat milk for beverages, but less appealing to buyers prioritizing ultra‑clean ingredients.

  • I was introduced to Oatly as a barista, when we swapped Oat brands, and it made a huge difference! The texture and frothing abilities are on par with other milk alternatives, but the creaminess is superior. I would drink a hot cup of Oatly on a morning shift if I didn't have breakfast, because it was so filling and felt like a meal. The non-barista offerings are just as good, and I enjoy the packaging. It is not my regular milk-alternative buy, as it is on the expensive side for me, but when it is on sale or if I want a "treat" I will get it! Also, love love love that they have ice cream!

Sometimes it can be a bit more "oatier" tasting than other oat milks I've had, which is a pro and a con, depending on how you are using it. For example, I tried it in chia seed pudding once, and it was not very good. But when it comes to lattes it is delicious! It would be nice if it was cheaper.

  • I love this milk alternative, and I hate most non-dairy products. It has a great taste and mouth feel

  • Love the barista edition! I can finally have non dairy/non soy cappuccinos that are actually foamy!

  • Of all the oat milks I have tried, Oatly has the creamiest and closest mouth feel to cow's milk. When Oatly is added to coffee instead of creamer it still gives a rich creamy taste unlike other brands or milk alternatives.

Price-wise it's on the more expensive side. This is the main reason why I don't always buy it or we wait for sales.

  • The first plant based milk I tried in my coffees that didn’t leave a bad taste in my mouth! And really, the taste is fine although I recommend the barista version for coffee drinkers.

They sold a stake to a company with more than just questionable ethics so I stopped purchasing upon that announcement and have since found alternatives I prefer the taste to. Also, like many other dairy alternatives, the tetrapak is an issue. I don’t believe it is an easily recycled packaging option. One of their competitors has a refill station and given the ubiquity of Oatly, surely that is an offering to explore for them as well? Or maybe they already do and I’ve missed it in which case, apologies.

  • I love their branding, but I'm not sure if the experience of the product was the best. I'm not a big fan of the texture or flavour of their oat drinks.

  • Oatl

It’s the first alternative to milk that I actually liked … sort of. It’s aftertaste is what made me not favor this as my go to alternative.

  • Love the taste (!) but stopped drinking it because it didn't feel like a very healthy milk alternative (so much random crap in it). Also, they don't make an organic version. That said, if **all** you're going for is taste, then this milk is the move. So creamy and delicious. Also, I like their kooky copywriting.

Of their ice creams, the strawberry is best (the other flavors don't do much for me)

  • Delicious and easy to pick up almost anywhere.

    Feedback

It is a bit disingenuous how much they play into the "health" vibes.

  • Thankfully, we're past the great oat milk drought of 2019. I've had Oatly's icecream, yoghurt, and plain oat milk. I love that their icecream isn't as sweet as other brands and keep coming back to it over other low-calorie brands like Halo Top as the texture is better and it doesn't have sweeteners. For oat milk, Elmhurst tastes better, but it's so much more expensive. Minor Figures is a cooler brand, but you must buy in bulk as it's not distributed as widely. Overall, Oatly is a decent option to which I'll continue to return.

The yoghurt isn't up to par and is very runny. Maybe kids would like it.

  • Love how creamy and widely available Oatly is, but sometimes the fillers do not sit well with my stomach!

  • Oats make the best non dairy milk. I have enjoyed Oatly for many years now (discovered when I was in the EU) including having a subscription for at least over a year (sadly discontinued). It's perfect in coffee, very creamy, froths fantastically.

    Feedback

I wish the Barista Edition subscriptions would come back. Oatly discontinued them a few months ago.

  • Obviously the OG in the oat milk space. I love the taste of Oatly, and it is my go-to on a recurring basis. Because it's so popular now, it's really easy to find at grocery stores and even bodegas.

I don't love that they're now partly owned by Blackstone. It makes me feel like their values around sustainability and environmentalism are no longer genuine.

  • Oatly tastes great and the product looks good. But its sugar content is concerning.

    Feedback

It would be great if it didn't load up on sugar to make up for the lack of dairy.

  • I was a milk-alternative skeptic for awhile. Once I tried Oatly, I converted. The taste is delicious and now I don’t drink anything else with my coffee/drinks.

    Feedback

None that I can think of!

  • There truly is no better alternative milk on the market. Do yourself a favor and try the barista blend of Oatly in a latte. Prepare to never purchase any other alternative milk ever again. Oatly, you rock!

  • I used to buy Oatly (especially the ice cream) when it was new on the market but I hadn't realized how much added sugar and extra ingredients and preservatives they add. I will not be buying again unless they make it healthier.
