Reviews mention

  • Neutral, clean cooking flavor
  • High-heat, stable performance
  • Ergonomic, precise squeeze bottle
  • Sustainable, future-forward positioning
  • Underwhelming flavored oil intensity
  • Occasional pan sticking with eggs
  • Misthreaded cap causing leaks
  • Limited nutritional transparency details

Algae Cooking Club impresses in reviews for clean, neutral-tasting algae oil that handles high heat (around a 535°F smoke point), delivers crisp results, and comes in ergonomic squeeze bottles that control pour. Reviews also flag shortcomings: flavored oils can taste underwhelming or one‑dimensional, occasional sticking or residue for eggs, leaky caps, and requests for clearer nutritional and sourcing transparency—making the original oil a strong everyday cooker while the lineup still matures.

  • Have seen Algae Cooking Club out on my social media - especially with the new roasted garlic oil from Nara Smith's collab. With the holidays and the ThingDrop, I thought it would be a great opportunity to try the holiday feast bundle which included two bottles of algae oil, and a mushroom and chili infused oil. I was excited to try the algae oil since it's high heat and neutral flavoring, but I was pleasantly surprised that the mouthfeel was really light. It changes an aspect to the food you cook, although it's subtle. It isn't typically used as a finishing oil which is the only "limitation" of this oil. The flavored oils were delicious and adds another layer of flavor. For example, I used the mushroom and chili oil on some savory oats with mushrooms. I could see a simple lunch of a fried egg with hot rice flavored with these oils. Excited to see what else ACC comes out with!

  • I’ve been really enjoying Algae Cooking Club oil. It’s a great, healthier alternative to canola, peanut, and avocado oils, and it performs beautifully. It pours easily but doesn't dump out too much at all. Bonus points for the beautiful packaging! It looks great on my kitchen counter. I was especially excited to try the Gochugaru Chili Oil. It smells incredible, but I was a bit disappointed by the lack of heat--it didn’t have much of a kick at all. I also had some trouble removing the safety seal. My husband didn't like the taste of the chili oil and said that it tasted like seaweed to him. We'll probably give this one to a friend. One note, it took them quite a while to ship out the oil--I think around 6 days. But once it shipped, it reached me very quickly. Overall though, the oils are high quality, and I’ll definitely keep using the original cooking oil!

  • I’ve been obsessed with algae since I read the book “Slime” by Ruth Kassinger. About 5-8 years ago, there was a different brand of algae oil called Thrive and I was so upset when it was discontinued. Enter Algae Cooking Club! I am an immediate fan and love the concept of using their algae oil as my go-to high-heat cooking oil. Better for you, better for the planet, what is not to like?

  • The flavors are amazing and so delicious! The squeeze bottle packaging is my favorite for quick frying, and the garlic oil has become a daily staple. The flavors are rich and really stand out in all of my dishes. The spice in the chili oil is perfect, too.

  • I really like the squeeze bottles. It’s a nice neutral oil and you’re able to use it at higher temps. The flavors of the other oils are pretty nice. Still trying to figure out recipes to use them in. Overall pretty satisfied! Nice alternative to seed oils

  • I’ve been using Algae Cooking Club alongside olive and avocado oil in my home kitchen. Each still has a role, but when I want a mild, neutral flavor and the ability to cook at high heat, this is the oil I reach for. It clearly outperforms olive oil in terms of smoke point and stays stable without burning or adding unwanted flavor. It does absorb more than some oils, but that tradeoff pays off when you’re after texture. I’ve been able to get truly crisp chicken at home without pushing the oil too far. I recently heard that Coqodaq, the NYC Korean fried chicken hotspot known for its signature crunch, uses this oil, which tracks with my own experience. It’s become a reliable choice for high-heat cooking where performance really matters. Additionally, it being one of the more nutritious oil options on the market is a big plus for more health-conscious cooking.

  • Just got my first box from Algae Cooking Club and I’m impressed as expected. Truthfully wasn’t sure what to expect from algae-based cooking oil. First off, it’s super neutral, no weird aftertaste, no overpowering scent. It cooks clean, handles high heat like a champ (hello 535°F smoke point), and has a lovely light texture. I’ve used it for sautéing and roasting, and it behaves like a more premium version of canola or avocado oil without the greasiness. I also appreciate the clarity around the brand’s mission. The environmental angle (algae as a regenerative, low-impact crop) makes this feel like a future-forward pantry upgrade rather than a gimmick. Bonus: the squeeze bottle is great for stovetop use, and the larger bottles are perfect for refills or bigger batch cooking. That said, I’d love to see more transparency around nutritional specs and sourcing as they grow this feels like a company still early in its lifecycle, but with a ton of potential. Solid five-star first impression.

  • Excited to try these oils, especially after hearing about their heat and nutritional properties. Clean alternatives with high smoke point that could be used in a variety of cooking ways. I look forward to also trying the flavored oils, including the garlic for adding on to various dishes!

  • As soon as I heard about this new type of cooking oil, I knew I had to get my hands on it. I am 100% here for exploring new ways for people to get the nutrients they need from unlikely sources. While mushroom-based products have been all the rage for a while, I think the ocean will also be a huge source of our nutrients in the decades to come. This Algae Cooking Oil definitely fits that bill. I've cooked with it twice so far. Once to make scrambled eggs and another time to cook butternut squash pieces. The first time I used it for eggs everything stuck to the pan, giving less than stellar results. I don't know if this oil shouldn't be used for eggs, or if it needed to heat up more, or something else entirely. Thankfully when I cooked my butternut squashed, things turned out perfectly. So it's clear I need to get a better handle on this, as the bottle claims it is good for everything. The oil itself does not add much flavor to the dishes, and that is totally fine with me. A high smoke point is not something I often need when I cook, and when I do need it recipes usually tell me which oils to use, so it has never been a huge headache for me. But I am glad that I have another high smoke point oil at my disposal. I got this through a Thingdrop offer which I was happy about since this oil is very expensive. I know some good quality olive oil can be just as expensive, but this was an unproven type of oil so I needed some convincing to take the plunge. Their website does often have good sales, so if you are on the fence, it may be good to buy a bundle during a holiday period to get a great price for this product.

  • I purchased the Algae Cooking Club cooking oil trio as a Thingdrop. The original oil is my favorite mainly because I don't notice much flavor from the mushroom flavored one ... to be fair, I haven't tried the chili one because I have a low spice tolerance, so this one could have more flavor! I have used this oil to cook chicken and salmon - moderate heat, nothing super crazy happening in my kitchen! In terms of cooking, nothing really caught my eye in a super good or bad way in terms of the oil itself. I do really like the bottle and the nozzle - I feel like I can control the amount of oil I use whereas traditional olive oil dispensers make it too easy to pour too much out. Overall, I recommend trying this out!

  • I bought the set of the plain Algae Oil and the add ons of the Shiitake and Chili flavoring oils. The plain Algae oil is, well, plain. It's neither here nor there. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it - other than the packaging is really cute. The Shiitake and Chili oils on the other hand are very underwhelming. The shiitake tastes like oil with undertones of dirt. Faintly shroomy, the Urfa Chili dominates for me - but I cannot imagine anything being enhanced by this oil. I am pretty unclear why they brought this product to market. The goguchang chili oil is spicy, but rather one dimensional. It's totally clear with no chili texture, which some might find a plus. With all the amazing chili oils out there I would not choose to add this to my pantry. I kept the plain oil and gave the 2 flavored ones away. The image are the 2 flavored oils.

  • Really love this oil. I've used it straight on food, delicious, and to cook with and it worked so well! I make sourdough english muffins and sometimes they get a little smoky with coconut oil, but this oil held up well due to the high temperature point, and didn't smoke much! It also doesn't have a flavor (other reviews said they tasted something but I sure didn't) which i really love! It's super light in color also, which is nice for adding to dishes when you don't want that hue that olive oil can add.

  • Absolute love! Kitchen staple. Algae oil is so great to have on hand, both for its technical abilities to go up to high temps and it's buttery neutral flavour that works with nearly everything. Before algae oil I was a "default to olive oil for as much as I can" so this fits really nicely into my pantry. I also have their two infused oils, a mushroom and a chilli oil that I use for sauces and stirfrys often.

  • I really LOVE this oil. It goes great poured on popcorn because the slightly buttery taste is accurate. I highly recommend and makes a great gift. However, the cap often doesn't screws on tilted and leads to leaking down the bottle!

  • Really liking the algae oil! Bought mostly for the high heat benefit and sustainability claims. My husband seared steak with it and there was no smoke at all, usually our whole kitchen is smokey. So that was a huge plus!! Got the whole bundle, the chili oil was surprisingly spicy for me (although I have low tolerance). Still figuring out what to add the mushroom oil to, my first try was a bit underwhelming. Wish they didn't add seed oil free marketing to the packaging - of course it's seed oil free it is made of algae. I'd much rather know what's actually in your product that makes it so good, rather than what isn't.

  • Ooohhhh I’m into it!! It makes some really yummy eggs in the morning, and I have yet to use it for baking but am excited to try out biscuits/pie crust with the “buttery” flavor! I only wish it were better as a finishing/salad dressing type oil as I love the benefits — maybe the “flavored” varieties they carry would be good for this use? I guess I’m sold on Algae cooking oil 😅

  • ACC first got me hooked prior to releasing their flagship product. Great branding accompanied by a captivating social media presence left me no option but subscribe to their newsletter. There, I was converted from distant fan to intimate supporter. Their newsletter is extremely appealing and they offered to send samples to many of their subscribers—myself included. I had stepped away from cooking with oils, but have since been using my samples every chance I get as an everything oil. The algae is a good sell, but the community building is where it really stands out. Looking forward to purchasing the full 16oz bottle as soon as I run dry.
