We’re Not Really Strangers earns strong reviews for catalyzing meaningful, vulnerable conversations that deepen relationships across friends, partners, and family, proving the brand’s core game concept works. Reviewers praise the thoughtful prompts, elegant red-and-white design, and versatile editions (Couples, Self-Reflection, Family), while noting downsides like limited replay with the same group, discomfort with the wrong audience, occasional “cringe” or mismatched prompts, and inconsistent merch/build quality.

YMMV. This is one of those games where you have to choose your crew carefully. It can get uncomfortable very quickly, BUT that can be a good thing if you pick the right participants! Overall, we love whipping this game out with closer friends, but not with acquaintances.
This game is good for first dates or when you’re just getting know people. It’s a fun get together game but only if you want to get deep!

This game is your traditional ice breaker on steroids! In a good way. Very fun with a lot of people
I’ve used both the normal “friend” pack and the relationship + expansion pack and I’ve LOVED both!! Playing the original pack with a group of friends was very special and brought me closer to people I already considered my best friends. It cultivates vulnerability and kindness/empathy in such a natural, fun way. I definitely think it forces players to see we’re really just all humans trying our best and we need each other! The relationship pack + its expansion pack is 10/10!! My fiancé and I love occasionally playing the full game during a date night - it (again somehow) forces vulnerability in areas you may not realize you needed. My fiancé & I are so close and open and yet we leave each game feeling so much closer. We also use cards more one-off throughout tough weeks as little touch points to foster connection. It’s really special, and so fun!
Perfect game to play with those closest to you. The cards have topics that spark interesting and deep conversations, that may not always come up naturally. I really enjoyed my time playing.
I enjoy this game—it’s a fun thing to play with someone you’re getting to know / don’t know extremely well. A little less fun with someone who really knows you.
I gave this to a friend as a gift and it ended up being a gift for myself as well - it's a really great start point for wonderful, deep conversations with the people closest to you. If you want to get closer to someone, I think using this deck is a good way to start.

So I pretty much love everything about what this team is doing. I haven't played the card game yet, but I have a sweatshirt 'How Are You Really?' and I appreciate the emails I get. I like the stance the brand takes on mental health... makes you think and reminds you to be compassionate towards yourself!
Our entire group was in tears by the end of it. Some happy, some otherwise. Get deep.

I love playing this with my partner. We've gone through the original deck and the couple's edition. We usually play this whenever we're out on picnics and it creates such a nice and intimate bonding experience. <3
I received the pack of cards as a gift & immediately sat down and went through them with my wife. I love the conversations they invite and you're able to cater the questions to everyone- those you're close with and those you're just getting to know.
I played this with family and liked it well enough. It sparked some interesting conversations and had a format that was easily adaptable for the amount of time we had and our interests. I liked the prompts more than other get-to-know-you games but imagine this would be less fun with a group of actual strangers, ironically.
This is my favorite game to play -- both with groups of friends, as well as, when a few dates in and want to connect with someone on a deeper level. It helps bring people together and open people up in a really powerful + disarming way. I have all the packs + love them!
I think this is a very charming game in a very aesthetically pleasing package. The questions range from novice to more "expert" level, and it's fun to pick and choose with questions to ask your S/O!

the best way to make everyone uncomfortable at the function.. (kidding) i love this project and have so many fond memories of playing this with friends / past relationships. a great way to open up conversations you never thought you needed to have and learn more about the people in your life.
Played this with my friends and we had alot of fun learning more about each other! It's kind of a "one-and-done" activity. I also think this is a game best played with people who all know each other well and are comfortable sharing.
The family edition of the game proved to be a valuable experience. It encouraged conversations and a deeper understanding of each other, bringing us closer. Emotions ran high and there might have been a few tears (liberating) shed.
Very great game! The cards have such insightful questions that it is fun to play with virtually anyone. I have played this with my boyfriend, with gal pals, with my boyfriend's mom, and even with my cousin. It is funny to read the same cards again and it really helps you build a strong perspective and memory of what your core values truly are.
Really love going through the game with my family and friends. It opens up alot of different discussions and also self-reflection!
I've played this with my friends and with my boyfriend, and it's created lovely, meaningful conversations every time. However, a lot of the questions are targeted more towards people who you don't know (which I know is part of the point of the game!), so I've found that there are some cards that just don't work when I'm playing with my boyfriend of three years, and we just take those out when we play. Otherwise, a great experience and a good way to connect with your people :)
