Reviews mention

  • Clean, professional piercing studios
  • Comfortable, lightweight huggies and hoops
  • Stylish, playful design assortment
  • Sensitive-ear friendly metal options
  • Occasional tarnishing on plated finishes
  • Inconsistent durability and bent posts
  • Uncomfortable, finicky flatback mechanisms
  • Limited silver and white-gold selection

Studs earns mixed reviews: many say the piercings are clean, quick, and well-executed and that 14k, titanium, and several huggies/hoops are comfortable for sensitive ears and hold up to daily wear, but others report tarnishing, bent or broken pieces, tricky flatbacks, and even infections or sunken studs. Reviews also praise the fun, stylish assortment and ear-scaping guidance while noting limited piercing jewelry options (especially silver/white gold), sizing confusion, and components that can loosen or fall out.

  • Really cute stuff. Supposed to be high quality but my earrings broke within a month.

  • I've gotten a few orders from Studs and have loved everything that I've ordered. I never take my earrings out (cartilage piercings) - wear them in the shower, ocean, to bed, working out, etc. and never have any any problems. They come at a pretty good price point too and have cute designs (although I've mostly gone with standard ones).

  • Great experience getting pierced, love that they offer free downsizing. I got two piercings (already had 8) and will likely go back. I wish they had more products in white gold for medium and tan girlies with neutral or olive undertones. We don’t do yellow gold, and your competitors (Maria Tash) have more options for us.

  • I got pierced at a Studs pop-up in Boston before they opened on Newbury Street. The whole experience was catered to me, the girl who pierced me was so friendly and informative, and all the jewelry is high quality and adorable! I don’t wear earrings often, but all the ones I own are now from Studs. I love love love the mini Huggies the most! When ever you order online they also provide the cutest neon clean pouch and stickers!

  • I have both spent... a lot... of money on their website and have gotten my ears pierced in Austin. It's good quality for the money (if you're looking for forever earrings, these aren't it. they are good for an extended period of time but aren't comparable to like $500 gold earrings if you know what I mean). I love the ability to change my earrings to fit my style and not the 85 year old style that seems to be at every other earring place.

  • I had a really positive experience at the studio getting my third earlobe piercing. Everything was pristine and sanitized. The nurse did an excellent job, overall it was very enjoyable. I’ve even purchased a few gold plated earrings since then. My word of warning though is for the flat backed earrings. I got them as my initial piercing pair because I thought the flat back would be more comfortable than the butterfly back. I WAS SO WRONG. It’s like a little battering ram when you lie down on your side to sleep (which I do). Very unpleasant, so I recommend the butterfly backs if you’re a sensitive sleeper. I mention this here because I went with a friend and we wish someone would have warned us!!!

  • I have been wearing a pair of gold hoops nearly daily for two years. I bought them in-store and have worn them to bed, in the shower, to the beach, and just in my daily wear and they have held up so well. They're comfortable, not too heavy, and very cute. Definitely worth the price!

  • Not truly for "sensitive ears". My ears are allergic to nickel and Studs would claim they gave me hypoallergenic earrings but I would come to find out that they still continue to have nickel in them. I went and bought the expensive real gold earrings and they broke...not once but TWICE.. was very disappointed.

  • Such an easy experience! My first piercings came from a mall Claire's back in the day, my second was in skeezy basement in a NYC piercing parlor and this was my latest (and best). It was simple to book an appointment, the actual appointment was pleasant and a very quick in and out and the staff was friendly. I felt the tipping structure was a bit awkward and I (think) they required a cash tip, which I wasn't expecting. I do wish they had more assortment in piercing jewelry choices, but it doesn't seem like many places have a lot of choices.

  • Studs was great in general! I had my ears re-pierced since it had been about 7 years since I last attempted to put earrings in. My ears are extremely, extremely sensitive to where anything other than gold or real silver, would burn my ears, swell them up and give me a migraine. I chose to get the 14k gold studs here, and my ears have been fine! Haven’t taken them out once and I haven’t had an issue.

  • I can’t speak to their physical stores, but my online experience was pleasant overall. My biggest complaint is that a lot of their jewelry materials are not consider by many professional piercers to be “implant grade,” so a number of pieces aren’t really meant to be worn for long periods of time. They have cute, trendy designs and make it really easy to find jewelry that suits you. It’s also easy to find the right sizes for your piercing types. I purchased some cute hoops from them, I just had to make sure everything I was choosing was either titanium or SOLID gold, not plated.

The materials aren’t always of the highest quality. I know it’s more expensive to provide solid metals, like gold, but they’re better for piercing health and the people buying them.

  • I visited the seattle store for two new piercings and had a great experience. Since then, I've ordered some earrings online and been extremely happy with them. For the past month, I've worn some tiny gold huggies without changing them out and my ears aren't green or irritated at all! They're high quality for the price, and overall great vibes.

If you order earrings online, the price is usually by the single earring, so pay extra attention if you're looking to buy two of the same. Also, each earring comes in its own little plastic ziploc bag. It was great for making sure I had everything I ordered, but felt pretty wasteful.

  • The Miami studio is so cool. I love that it felt so Miami and unique. So sleek and clean! The girls were the nicest. The layout of the earrings is really cute and I love that there’s a sticker bowl. Anywhere there’s a needle there should be a sticker bowl lol. I love my conch piercing and I’m ready to come back for some more! Their earscaping program has changed the game.

Trust STUDs! There is a detailed information on their training process and their earrings are high quality. There’s great incentives to come back like a cute piercing card.

  • Stylish, affordable, fun jewelry! Claire's cooler, hipper, older sister

Wish there were more sizes of the earrings some things are just too dainty and small for me

  • This review is only regarding in-store customer experience. Not the actual products. I walked into the Studs shop on South Congress in Austin, Texas out of curiosity because I had never seen one before. I didn't not know that it was a piercing store. Obviously I realized shortly after walking in but I decided to look around because some of the jewelry was cute and the shop itself is adorable. However, when the people behind the desk realized I didn't have an appointment, I was given rude stares and I felt super conscious of myself. So much that I thought maybe you weren't allowed to shop. I kind of wandered toward the back and one of the workers told me that that area was for customers only which I thought was interesting wording because why would you tell me I'm not a customer? I think she meant to say that area was only for people getting piercings done but there was a super rude connotation and glare to match it. I've worked in retail so I could totally see how maybe it was just another day for them and it's annoying to keep telling people not to go back there but maybe don't put the coolest displays in the back and expect people won't wander? Also I thought it was a shame that out of all 3 female workers, not one of them smiled at me. Anyways, the jewelry looks cute but yeah, I haven't been into a single studs store since. Poor customer conversion. And I think that's why they try so hard with the paid UGC.

  • The studs I went to in Madison Wi was amazing. Clean. Quick, friendly.. definitely would go back for more.

  • Super cute unboxing - they came with a little plastic envelope for easy carrying and some stickers. I’ve been wearing these daily and have never had them turn my ears green!

  • Great quality earrings at a good price point! The styles are so fun and whimsical and get lots of compliments. I am sensitive to cheap metals but have never had an issue with this brand!

  • I've been using their earrings and so far nothing bad has happened with them!

  • Fun fashion jewelry for multiple piercings - if you’re looking to curate an ear stack without a big investment, this is a good way to go. The gold plating holds up well - I wore mine for 6 months without removing them, and they held up to shampoo, perfumes and hair dye (even though these are not recommended for longevity).

The earrings come with 90s style jelly sticker earrings, which are fun, I guess, but I wish they were optional because I end up throwing mine in the trash.
