I switched to this box after wanting a more sustainable alternative to FabFitFun, but I ended up quitting for several reasons: 1) I felt like I was falling into the consumer culture trap of purchasing unnecessary items just because I wanted something to open, 2) there was an issue with the business finances or investors or something and I never received boxes that I had already paid for while the company was stalled, and 3) while some of the products are more ethically or sustainably sourced, I am under the impression that they underpay the businesses that they partner with for inclusion of their products in the box. Overall, I just felt like this wasn't a sustainable purchase even though the products were usually top quality. I would rather purchase things directly from artisans/brands and spend money on things I actually need and will always use.

    Scrub Daddy

Definitely one of the most functional and long-lasting sponges I've tried, and it also has decent scrubbing power. Honestly, it's a sponge with a face. There isn't much more to say.

    Dirty Labs

To start, my absolute favorite aspects about Dirty Lab cleaners are that they are nontoxic and biodegradable, but also that all packaging is recyclable and the company is devoted to sustainability. I've reduced waste in my house significantly because of the size of the refill bottles and the recyclable materials (i.e. aluminum and cardboard), as well as the soap concentration. One load of laundry takes only a few mL of soap AND the soap is cold water optimized, which reduces energy usage from hot water. On top of that, the scents are incredible but light (jasmine, magnolia/bergamot, and yuzu) and I feel like my clothes and dishes are truly getting cleaned. Dirty Labs uses a bioenzyme technology that does a fantastic job of cleaning and removing stains. I'm very glad I made the switch to Dirty Labs for my own health and wellness, my clothes, and my environmental impact.

    Banza

Banza was a decent experience, but I just feel like there are better gluten free pastas out there. Chickpea pastas just have a slightly unpleasant consistency and taste, and I've found that brown rice pastas are a much better substitute for wheat noodles. I have no problem eating Banza noodles in a pinch or if it's all that is available, but they are not my first choice for a wheat substitute. I have yet to try the pizza crust, thought, and will likely add to my review in the future!

I am someone who really loves a sweet treat now and then but find regular candy too sugary for my liking. Unreal is PERFECT because it satisfies my dark chocolate a treat cravings without leaving me feeling sick from sweetness. The coconut bars are my all time fave (sort of like Almond Joy without the almonds), but there peanut butter cups and dark chocolate covered peanuts are also fantastic. A lot of there products are also vegan and gluten free, which is great for people trying to avoid allergens or animal producrs.

    Patagonia

Patagonia products last YEARS, are generally sustainable, and are cute and quality. One of my warmest and favorite puffer jackets is from them. I love their conservation and sustainability efforts, and that they’re transparent. They are by no means perfect, but they’re certainly one of the best options for outdoor gear.

    Feedback

Patagonia’s prices are the one thing that makes them inaccessible for a lot of people, but it is worth it in my opinion for products that will last for years.

    FabFitFun

I love the idea of subscription boxes and receiving them in the mail is so fun. I did enjoy FabFitFun while I had it, but the products weren’t always things I wanted or needed and it was an unnecessary expense for me. I ended up switching to a different box that had more sustainable products, but eventually quit that one too because it felt like it was promoting a culture of consumption.

    Feedback

More products from sustainable/ethical companies and from small businesses and artisans.

I love every kind of popcorn I’ve ever tried by Lesser Evil, but the Himalayan Gold just hits different. I honestly can’t believe it’s made with coconut oil because it actually tastes like butter. It is literally always in my pantry.

    Oatly

Oatly is the superior barista milk 100%. I have a different brand that I prefer for everyday stuff at home, but as a barista, Oatly is the best for coffee. It foams really nicely and is pleasantly thick. It also has the best flavor! A lot of barista oatmilks are really watery and, well, oaty, but this milk blends really nicely into the coffee to give a foamy latte!

    Feedback

Generally, they seem pretty sustainable. Oatmilk is a far more sustainable industry than dairy as far as production goes, and I know that they coat their boxes in sugarcane rather than plastic for some of their products. It would be nice to see 100% sustainable and recyclable packaging since I know their milk packaging specifically still contains plastic.

    Bitchin' Sauce

We love this sauce! All the flavors are great, and it can be eaten on a range of things. We use it as a dip for chips, veggies, bread, etc. and I also like to add it to wraps and sandwiches! I initially thought it would taste too nutty but I think the nut flavor is actually really subtle.

    Feedback

It is a thinner sauce, and it would be nice to have a thicker option that’s more like a spread.
