Simplehuman earns strong reviews for durable, thoughtfully engineered home essentials—especially trash cans, mirrors, and soap dispensers—that look sleek, contain odors, and simplify daily routines, so yes, the brand works. However, reviewers flag drawbacks: costly proprietary liners, occasional failures with electronic soap pumps and sensor cans, sustainability concerns, and mixed customer service experiences.
AI summary based on Thingtesting reviews
bought the sensor mirror trio at a really good discount and i couldn't be happier, the product delivers on everything it claims and i have no issue so far with the soft/hardware.
I got the dual trash/recycling can and love it. It’s really expensive but (1) I liked it and (2) wanted something that was functional. I was able to snag it on a discount at the container store and would recommend hunting down a good deal. I was worried that the trash bags would be super expensive and they suprising aren’t. I think I paid $20 for 60 bags and my favorite part is that the bags fit into a little nook in the back of our trash can. It’s such a small detail but I love being able to declutter in any way possible, so knowing that all the supplies are together is a game changer. I just learned that a composting program is expanding in my city so I think I’m going to order the compost caddy that slips on to the side of this. And while I’m at it, I think I’m going to order scent pods because I eat a form of salmon everyday and the scent (ONLY WHEN I OPEN THE LID) gets out of control quickly.

First off, intrigued to see this on this site! I have a kitchen trash can from simplehuman and WOW - the upfront investment had absolutely been worth it. It promises a smell-free experience and it delivers!

The brand makes their own trash liners to fit the design exactly - I understand the logic, but they're pricey. While a trash bag that's not branded works well enough, it's a little annoying.
I love how all their products look very modern and are stainless steel for that clean and shiny look.
Simplehuman is a brand with effective, modern, functional products designed to make your everyday better. I’ve purchased and used the shower caddy and various garbage cans, and all of them have withstood daily use and look great.

Simplehuman makes such a large variety of home and life-improvement items, they're a little hard to rate overall. In my experience, they've been hit-or-miss regarding a few things. The quality of what you're getting varies wildly from product to product. For example, their stainless steel trash cans (I got mine at The Container Store) are BIFL, mine looks fantastic for going on 5 years. The bath accessories though? They're just as good as my Target ones. The in-shower organizer rusted at a few joints (not all, just a few) despite being water-resistant and largely out of direct water. The humidity must have done it in. The soap dispenser clogged up, despite using their soap! I tried to dissolve it, thinking it really was a soap clog, but it never did. It could have been an issue with the inner workings. But for being a rather pricey pump, it did not last nearly as long as it should have. From then on, I've just kept an eye out for Simplehuman sales at Costco.

Great ergonomic products. Function well, look good. Only knock against them is the price of replacement trash bags which can be astronomical. Fortunately other manufacturers produce the same sizes.
I really appreciate the sleek, modern look of the trashcan as well as its durability (2 moves and it doesn't even have a dent!). It's super easy to clean both inside & out, but I do find the metallic surface shows streaks/stains easily so I end up cleaning it more often (which may be a good thing actually?). Lastly, the easily accessible replacement trash bags are just a stress you didn't know you had until it's gone - they're right there! No more waiting until the next morning because you don't feel like going to find the extras under the sink. That being said - these things are OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. And don't even get me started on the replacement trash bags. I stopped buying them & just put non "Simple Human" ones in the holder instead. Had this trash can not been passed down to me by a family member, I would absolutely 100% never pay over $100 for a trash can!
Only trash cans I by. Last forever. Great mechanisms and details (bag holder on the back of the large kitchen trash can). Big kitchen version has a side for trash and one for recycling
I have a two-chamber trash/recycling bin from them. It’s expensive but really nice.
great trashcans - seamless and great that you can easily match trash bags with the trash cans (have had too many nightmares buying trash bags that are ill fitted)
I am reviewing the tall garbage can with foot pedal to open the lid. I like the look of this trash can and it has held up well over two years. The foot pedal lid opening mechanism works well. My only complaint is it is hard to open the lid without the foot pedal, which means I have to come all the way around to the front to open it even if I have a free hand.
I use a lot of Simplehuman products! I love their designs, but I will say they do not last as long as you would expect them to for their price points. I also dislike how you're supposed to purchase EVERYTHING that goes with their products.

Durability, stainless steel is NOT rust-proof. Pricing.

Great inventive, quality products! They make life simpler!
Simplehuman is expensive, but the products are worth it - they don't stain easily, they are of high quality, and have high function. However, some products are a bit finnicky - like the motion detector hand soap pump - and should have gone through a bit more rigorous product testing first... The tried and true shower caddies, trash cans, and dish racks are reliable and make for a great housewarming gift or an upgrade for your home.
I recently bought an attractive trash can for my kitchen, and I’ve had others by them, but the kitchen trash can was pretty expensive. It’s nicely made, functions more smoothly than any other one I’ve had, doesn’t put when using cleaner, and gratefully, will accommodate hefty garbage bags as opposed to having to buy the Sinplehuman brand, which is more expensive.

Since Simplehiman came on to the scene, they’ve gotten plenty of competition, but from what I’ve seen, they still stand out with their quality. It’s just now they look more expensive since there are other good brands for less.

I've had a simplehuman trash can (50L) for 4 years now, and it's great! The sleek and modern design make it look nice in my kitchen. It does a great job of sealing in smells; I've never been able to smell what's inside the trash. I also think it's a good weight. Nothing worse than a trash can that falls over any time you bump into it. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase.

The only cons are the price is a bit steep and due to the unique shape of the trash can, you have to buy special simplehuman trash bags (more expensive than regular trash bags). We just buy regular trash bags, but it takes a bit of effort to get them to fit (verrry tight at the opening).
i feel like the marker of adulthood is crossing over into the simplehuman trashcan territory. you don't realize the importance of a great trash can and simple, easy-fitting trash can until you have one. haven't tried their other products, but i will always buy their trash cans from now on.

I've had a Simplehuman step trash can in my kitchen for several years now, and it still looks as good as it did when I got it. It's heavy duty and has survived several moves. It's expensive, but worth the money IMO.

The tiny crevices are hard to get food out of if something spills out of the garbage. I had to use a screwdriver once to unscrew the bottom and get coffee grounds out.

I have a mini Simplehuman trash bin and it works great!

Pricing tends to lean on the higher side.
