  • Skin‑friendly natural formulation

  • Visible white residue
  • Unstable stick base

Human Essentials reviews state the brand works as a pleasant, often effective natural deodorant for everyday wear, praised for distinctive, long-lasting scents and compostable peel‑away packaging but hampered by a soft, malleable formula that melts, can leave residue or white streaks, and the peel system can be messy or destabilize the stick.

  • I am all about all-natural deodorants and products. I thought that the packaging was innovative and I did really like the smell, which was "Guava, Sea Salt and Coconut"

I didn't love the unwrapping experience of the stick. Often times the paper would rip off but not the opaque "plastic" wrapper under neath. The texture of the deodorant once applied wasn't smooth either.

  • I was really excited to try out this deodorant, as I absolutely loved the packaging. It seemed so fun to be able to pull off a little park of the wrapping the more you used the stick. I had the choice of three scents when I purchased this, and as I am not a fan of guava or citrus, I went with bergamot. Little did I know that bergamot is also a citrus fruit, meaning that when I first opened the stick the smell was really unpleasant to me. Thankfully this is something that I got used to over time, and really just smells like super-strong fruit loops if you ask me haha. And at first, I was a bit worried. I had used deodorants with aluminum for many years now, as I sweat at the slightest inconvenience of going outside or feeling a bit nervous. And that sweating leads to me smelling super quick. I had to use the strongest stuff I could buy, which meant clinical strength antiperspirants. Those worked decently well until I started sweating (since after a while I would still sweat some) and then would inevitably smell. So if I still smelled after using a very strong product, how could an all-natural one with no sweat-absorbing ingredients work on me? Well, initially when I first used this product I started to smell quite quickly and I was not too happy about that. A bit nervous about how long this would last if it didn't last forever, I read through the website's FAQ. It said it could take up to 14 days to detoxify a person's armpits, and then after that the bad bacteria in your armpits that cause such smells should supposedly be gone. I also sent an email to customer support detailing my worries, and someone quickly got back to me telling me their story of how this product ended up working for them, though there are days where refreshing is still a good idea. So feeling a bit more positive about things, I kept using this deodorant. And eventually things did start to change! Even though I still sweat a bunch, the sweat does not immediately smell. And that to me is life-changing. I do definitely think a refresh is necessary sometimes if I go outside and it's really hot out. Do note that I am not the most active person so if you run or play sports it's possible you will have a very different experience than me. I'm going to keep using this product for sure and monitor if things get better or worse. But for now, I am very glad I tried this deodorant out, and will keep using natural ones in the future!

Product is a bit expensive overall and seems it will be used up pretty fast, meaning this is definitely not the most affordable product if you plan to use a lot of deodorant every day. The product also does not get absorbed by the skin very fast so I have accidentally wiped my underarms and have lost a lot of the product that way. Also the bottom part does tend to slide out if you hold it from the top piece (the cover).

  • First of all, I LOVE the packaging! It is so fun, and economical, to unwrap the deodorant as needed. I love the smell and how fresh I feel after using it. Such an innovative product that other companies can learn from. I hope that they will be in stores soon.

I would love to see more scents available. The price seems very high and not consumer friendly, I would not pay the full amount for this product.

  • So, I was skeptical of this brand because I have tried so many natural deodorants and most have left me disappointed (and not so fresh). I tried the Peppercorn and Bergamont and loved the smell. I was a little surprised to learn that it wasn't a push-up method...so that took some getting used to but the system is self-explanatory. I also like that the container is biodegradable. The deodorant itself keep me fresh all day and didn't leave any marks on my clothes–love that!

The only thing I question is the price point. I think it is a bit too expensive.

  • I had always been skeptical of natural deodorants, prone to using Mitchum and Dove roll-ons and sprays most of my life, finding they tackled my athletic pursuits best but it wasn’t until I took a closer look at the ingredients and consumer waste that I started exploring other options. I tried other brands on the market, like Salt & Stone and NATIVE — and while I found them great, it wasn’t until discovering Human Essentials that I realized it stood out in a category of its own. The packaging is playful and innovative (with a peelable canister) setting it apart from others on the market, and the scents are surprisingly unique. I’ve been using the product for one month, and I’m hooked. My partner also loves it. I use the Guava, Sea Salt & Coconut, and he uses the Dessert Lime Mandarine & Vanilla. The scents are high quality, in that the fragrance lasts all day long — taking off my shirt at the end of the day, I can still smell the freshness of the deodorant. It’s lovely! Shipping is fast and the company offers a subscription model as well.

  • There are three main things that set Human Essentials apart from other natural deodorants. 1 - The packaging is genius! I love peeling the layers and it is so much better than those hokey push up canisters. 2 - The application is so smooth and you don't have to wait for the product to warm up on your skin like a lot of other natural deodorants I've tried. 3 - The scents are awesome. My personal fave is the coconut, guava, and sea salt. It's tropical and fresh and lasts all day. I have recommended this product to all my friends.

  • I really love this deodorant. I use other natural brands and this one seems to be working best! Packaging is cool, smells great, and works.

  • Having received a pair of Human Essentials as a gift a year ago, I've been exclusively using them ever since, and I've become a staunch advocate. Why? Firstly, the biodegradable packaging is a game-changer, aligning perfectly with my values of sustainability. Knowing that it's 100% natural provides peace of mind, especially considering the intimate nature of its use. Moreover, the scents are simply invigorating, offering a freshness that lasts throughout the day. But it's not just about the fragrance; it's about the brand's overall ethos. The aesthetics are strikingly appealing, resonating with my passion for nature, running, and embracing the sweat of an active lifestyle.

  • It's hard to find a natural deodorant that works well and smells great and Human Essentials has done it! I love knowing that everything is biodegradable and I am doing my part to save the planet. The first couple of days I had some pain in my armpits but it subsided (there was no visual rash so idk what was happening lol)

The price is a bit high for how quickly I went through it - I'd love to see discounted bundles of three to make the price more manageable and to save on shipping emissions, costs, etc.

  • I love the orange one and I love that it's compostable and already purchased again.

    Feedback

So....it did melt. The whole thing turned into a squished mess. I ended up composting the tube and putting the deodorant into a lil jar. Also shipping costs are kind of wild.

  • It's hard to find a natural deodorant that works. Human Essentials is one of them! It not only has a lovely smell, but the packaging is sustainable which makes this a perfect combo. The texture is nice and smooth, I'll certainly be buying another one once mine is done.

  • Brilliant packaging and a delicious scent make this a great, all-natural alternative to BO!

    Feedback

Maybe make it a bit more solid... it gets a bit soft in the summer!

  • Human Essentials is a fantastic brand that takes sustainability and skin care seriously! Their zero-waste deodorant is not only effective at keeping you fresh, but it's also packaged in biodegradable materials, which I love. The natural ingredients are gentle on the skin and free from harsh chemicals, making it perfect for those looking for a cleaner, greener alternative to traditional deodorants. I appreciate how well it works throughout the day, without any irritation, and it feels good knowing I'm supporting a brand that prioritizes both personal care and environmental impact. If you're looking for a natural deodorant that’s both eco-friendly and reliable, Human Essentials is definitely worth checking out!

  • I really wanted to like this deodorant because of the innovative packaging but it just didn't meet expectations. I got the desert lime and guava scents, and while the scents were great, the formula itself didn't apply well, left stains and residue on my clothes, and didn't do its one job of keeping BO at bay. It also dried out while I was traveling in the winter making it unpleasant to use. If they change the formula here I might give it another go but otherwise would not repurchase.

  • I got to purchase Human Essentials through a Thingdrop! I love the smells and the packaging is cute & makes it easy to spot in the depths of my gym bag. The deodorant itself takes a little while to dry out, but leaves less of a white cast compared to other natural deodorants. The compostable packaging is a big plus but I have not been home any of the times I had to peel the deodorant so ended up having to trash the pieces instead of effectively compost it; the little strips become grimy quickly.

    Feedback

It is expensive deodorant. For something that is used daily, it is on the pricier end of natural deodorants. I am glad I could buy it through Thingdrop but I am unlikely to purchase it when other brands are almost ~$3 cheaper and also offer bundle discounts for multiple tubes.

  • I love the concept and mission behind this deodorant but sadly I didn't love the product itself. Leaves a white residue on clothing and while the scent was strong, it didn't seem to last too long or mask any natural bo.

  • I got the Neroli Pink Peppercorn & Bergamot scent - it's definitely really strong, and probably a love it or hate it type of fragrance. The scent when applying is really strong, but I can't say that I notice it throughout the day. The feeling is a little creamy/sticky compared to other big brand deodorants like Dove sticks. Packaging is so fun with the paper strips, but I found at the bottom 2 strips, the entire thing became somewhat unstable and kept popping out of the holder. I wasn't too bothered as I had used the deodorant for over half a year at that point, but thought it was worth noting here since I felt like the product was wasted as I threw the item out at that point instead of fussing with it every morning.

  • OMG I love this stuff - I bought the one in the pink packaging and the scent is unlike any other deodorant I've purchased - it legit smells like perfume. I love the sustainability aspect of this brand as well.

    Feedback

I wish that it lasted a bit longer w/ odor and sweat protection and didn't go on so cakey - it sometimes leaves a white film on my clothing.

  • I purchased the Coconut Guava & Sea Salt and the Desert Lime Mandarin & Vanilla Flower scents through a Thingdrop. I love the scents, truly I think they're some of the best smelling deodorants on the market. I like the packaging and that I don't have to shove the bottom to get the product out. The peeling of the layers is a super great concept and I love that it's compostable. Overall, with the lack of antiperspirant in the product I don't feel like it worked as well for me as other deodorants, but because of the lack of typical antiperspirant ingredients I didn't really go into it thinking it would work perfectly. On a day where I'm just walking around with the dog or hanging on the couch, this product is great. I definitely wouldn't wear it to the gym though!
