Human Essentials reviews state the brand works as a pleasant, often effective natural deodorant for everyday wear, praised for distinctive, long-lasting scents and compostable peel‑away packaging but hampered by a soft, malleable formula that melts, can leave residue or white streaks, and the peel system can be messy or destabilize the stick.
AI summary based on Thingtesting reviews
This didn't stand up to Texas summer for me, but perhaps I need to give my body longer to acclimate (and admittedly, I may not be crunchy enough for natural deodorant). After the end of a workday wearing this, I felt stinky even with minimal time outside. The canister is neat, but the product is relatively malleable, so I think I'll go through a lot quickly as I peel off new layers.
Feedback
Product should be more solid so that is doesn't immediately go down to the edge of the canister when you press it on your body

Smells great and works just as well (if not slightly better) than many natural deodorants out there. The peel away system is interesting, but a little messy, and it's hard to use when you're almost done (feels like the last 10% is wasted). Also, even if you only have half of the deodorant left, because the cap doesn't get smaller, it ends up taking up a lot of space if you're traveling. Seems like a missed opportunity to design packaging that gets smaller as the remaining product decreases. Ultimately ended my subscription since I now get a refillable deodorant from a local zero-waste store, but if I couldn't do that, I would go back to this. Great customer service.
I’ve been using the Neroli, Pink Peppercorn, and Bergamot. It’s an unusual scent for deodorant, which is cool and attracted me to the product to begin with, but I‘m not sure the peppercorn translates to smelling fresh when it wears off. I think the wear is pretty decent though. The consistency is wetter than I prefer/compared to other deodorants, and so I’m also going through it more quickly.

I like the peel off idea, but I don’t love it because it reveals a lot more product than I normal would push or twist up for other deodorants. Also, the lid part isn’t the most secure around the base. Anytime I just lift it up from the top piece, it slides up by maybe a centimeter.
I really enjoyed the scent of this deodorant, but I did not like the way you had to peel off strips of cardboard to get to the next level down of the stick to use more product. Once I got to the 3rd strip from the bottom, the rest of the deodorant stick broke away from the base as it wasn’t secured tightly enough. I kept trying to put it back into the base, but it was so annoying to try to apply that I ended up throwing the whole thing away.
Feedback
Packaging needs improvement. Product separates from the base rendering the stick unusable
Love this deodorant! I enjoy the eco-friendly aspect and the unique scents that they have. I've tried the Guava, Sea Salt, and Coconut and the Neroli, Pink Peppercorn, and Bergamot and really like both and found them to be long-lasting. The customer service was also great and very quick to respond when there was an issue with my order.

Human Essentials has a very cool concept for the packaging of this deodorant. I got the Desert Lime, Mandarin, and Vanilla scent, which smells great! Kind of like a creamsicle. I like that there's no plastic and the way you "raise" the deodorant as it is used is by pulling off the strips to expose the stick. It has a nice texture that goes on well but can come off in clumps (easily smoothed). I haven't noticed any streaking on clothing which is nice, but like many more natural deodorants the smell doesn't last over the course of the work day. I notice that by the afternoon I do need to reapply. Since there's no mechanism attached to the stick, I do notice that when I pull off the lid, the stick gets pulled out of the container a bit, but it is easily pushed back down. It does get soft in the heat, but I haven't noticed any melting in the packaging.

I sweat a lot... And this deodorant did not seem to do much compared to antiperspirant deodorant. (I know that is not what this is marketed as, but nevertheless, it did not seem to work for me)
Tried the coconut, guava, & sea salt scented deodorant and was not a fan of the scent! It smelled too sour and the scent smelled exactly like strong B.O., which defeats the purpose of wearing deodorant :( I do love the colorful packing and the unboxing experience. Bummer because I really wanted to love this natural deodorant!
Feedback
Was hoping for more of a creamy coconuty, tropical, salty smell. Instead it was sour & almost spoiled scented, perhaps I got a bad batch? Less guava and more coconut next time please.

I've tried two scents so far and they are pleasant, leave no irritation, and scents lasts long. Love the packaging and the unboxing experience. Feels premium, but still keeps in mind the sustainability roots of the brand. The unraveling concept is a nice touch and a good solution to other push pop-like alternatives. Texture can be a little too soft, especially with NY's hot summers, I can easily put more than I'm wanting to.

Firmer texture, more scents!

Really oily, doesn’t last, and the paper packaging doesn’t stay intact. :,( I really wanted to like this product!

Deodorant works really well for a natural deodorant. I appreciate the compostable packaging. I find the deodorant to be softer than others which is not my favorite.
I really wanted to love this deodorant. The biodegradable packaging is innovative and looks great and fun, the company's zero-waste mission is impressive and commendable, and the plant-based formulation is exactly what I was looking for since abandoning aluminum-based antiperspirants altogether. Unfortunately, neither the product nor the method for dispensing the product worked for me.
Feedback
I ordered the desert lime, mandarin, and vanilla deodorant, which, scent-wise, was sort of a one-note pungent orange. Not awful, but I wouldn't buy it again. While the peel-away dispensing method is cool in theory, it turned out to be super messy--I got deodorant all over my fingers while peeling. The product itself is way less solid than I expected, and doesn't go on smoothly--it's more like a grainy paste. I had to smooth down the unevenly-distributed product with my hands, which defeats the purpose of having a dispensing method in the first place. Sadly, this is not for me.

I tried out three of the scents and each was great. It seemed to work pretty well for natural deodorant!
Feedback
I liked it overall but to be honest I don’t know if I can ever fully use a natural deo. I haven’t found one that actually fully works 100%

I truly love these deodorants - I have very sensitive armpits, but these have given me no issues whatsoever, and the get the job done. I've tried both the "Neroli, Pink Peppercorn, and Bergamot" and "Desert Lime, Mandarin, and Vanilla" scents and loved both. I was actually hesitant about the mandarin one at first, but it ended up being my favorite - it smells like a creamsicle!

While I love the fact that these are biodegradable, I do think the packaging could use some tweaking. I don't love getting deodorant on my hands while peeling off the layers, and sometimes the inner paper liner gets stuck which causes issues with application. I also find that I go through these quicker than typical deodorants, and at the price point, it's definitely a splurge - but arguably worth it!
Love the packaging! It's so unique and the smell is great. I was super impressed as I've never tried a natural deodorant that works this well. Definitely recommend.
So, I have my main deoderant I use ("The Curator" by Routine), but every now and then I like to try new products when my jar is low and I feel like being adventerous. Cue Human Essentials. I had great difficulty stripping the used paper to get to the next layer, and often ended up with a residual plastic (I thought the packaging was fully compostable??) hanging over the edge which led to a scrapy application. I really enjoyed the guava and sea salt scent, however, I went through this considerably faster than other deoderants of a similar make. I don't believe this lasted me more than three weeks, and when factoring in price, there just isn't enough product to justify. In terms of diffusing BO, this only seemed to mask very briefly and, by mid-day, created an offputting citrus-scented BO combo and required reapplication. Not compatible with dark clothing as it leaves ample streakage. I would also say this isn't the most travel-friendly as it melts in warmth, so best left at a stable room temp. One pro: baking soda free for all those sensitive pits. I had no reaction which was great.
Liked the looks of it and the smell

I tried it for a bit but I couldn’t keep on with it because it doesn’t really hold and sweat
I received a product through Thingdrop last year and just finished using it. I love the natural deodorant.

The packaging is unique (rip away) but not my favorite? Might be a personal thing but I would prefill refills vs. having to rip it.
Great product, I love that its plastic free. But like every natural deodorant you have to keep reapplying, although not as bad as others because you don't smell as bad. So I guess you can say its the best of them all. Overall great concept, great scents.

LOVE the smell, and of course the packaging is bubbly, and visually striking. The smell is like being at a spa, love it especially before yoga.

The texture itself leaves a little bit to be desired (personal preference) - a bit tacky/soft so I feel the need to 'rub' it in after use.
