Fishwife earns strong reviews for genuinely flavorful, high‑quality tinned seafood—standouts include Smoked Albacore Tuna, Smoked Rainbow Trout, and Fly By Jing Smoked Salmon—paired with dazzling, giftable packaging and a sustainability ethos. Reviews also flag meaningful drawbacks: small portions, frequent dryness or chewiness in cod and some salmon, a pervasive smoky profile that can overpower, unbranded “naked” tins, limited variety, and polarizing flavors; many find it best for special occasions rather than everyday use.

All the Fishwife varieties I've tried have tasted lovely. The packaging is whimsical and funky, leading their tins to stand out amongst an otherwise dull tinned fish grocery store aisle. I think these would work great in a gift basket for any foodie. The pricing is absolutely ridiculous, and simply not justifiable.

So good! I ate the Campfire Cod out of the can with nothing added to it and it was so delicious. I could eat it for lunch everyday. No notes. Perfection.

It's a little pricey. I definitely think it's worth the money, but I'd be more inclined to buy it if I could just pick it up in a shop as opposed to ordering it online.

My favorite is the smoked rainbow trout. I like freshwater fish, since they will contain less mercury. The albacore tuna is really tasty, but it is an occasional treat. There are other brands of tinned fish I like much better TBH. This is also quite expensive. I also do not consider any farmed fish "sustainable" at this point. Which means I will not be buying the smoked rainbow trout. Wild caught in waters which the fish are plentiful and not going to take needed resources from predators is the only fish I will eat. Many tribal fisherman in my area are well known to be the most sustainable option available, so I will be supporting them over anyone else.

Though a bit on the expensive side (I had a coupon for $2 off the normal $8.99 price), this is one of those situations where you absolutely get what you pay for. I purchased the slow-smoked mackerel with chili flakes, and absolutely loved it. I've tasted a few other brands—King Oscar immediately comes to mind—and these were far and away more flavorful. There's a touch of sugar and garlic mixed in with the olive oil and chilis, which adds a unique sweetness and punch to the overall taste (It's so good I saved the oil to blend in with vinegar for a future salad dressing). If you like tinned fish, definitely give this one a try!

Obviously the packaging and branding is A1, but as cute as that is, the price point is way too high to see myself as a repeat customer. I bought a little bit of everything for my husband to try and his comments were “that one brand from MOM is still better. (Raincoast) I tried the smoked tuna myself and wasn’t really feeling it. It was such a tiny amount and I didn't like the smoke flavor. That’s my personal preference, so if you’re a smoky person it may be wonderful. It almost seems like they’re a graphic design house that stumbled upon fish, instead of the other way around.

I tried the rainbow trout and it was pretty tasty, but I don't feel that this brand is worth the high prices they charge. It feels like they're trying to make this feel high-end and hipster-y and so you're basically paying for the pretty packaging. I'll stick to the Trader Joe's trout.

I meannnnnnnn. Branding is perfect. Think Becca and co are absolutely crushing it. Product tastes great. Expensive, sure, but I get the hype and I'm all for it!

Amazing branding and nice tasting fish, but at an astronomical cost that I simply can’t justify. The campfire cod was actually a little dry on the inside even though it was drenched in olive oil and pepper. I much prefer smoked fish from a regular grocery store which is cheaper per ounce and isn’t as dry.

Pricing. How can you justify $10+ for a tiny 3.5oz tin of fish? This is just not attainable for regular folx. Also a lot of packaging - do the tins each need their own individual paper box? Probably not necessary.

I love tinned fish. For years I maintained detailed tasting notes, tracked prices, probably ate a can a day! So I was extra excited to try Fishwife (thanks #thingdrop!). The packaging was lovely. The company mission is great. And I really liked the fish. It was my first time having tinned cod. I should have expected it but the fish itself was a little more toothsome than I'd expected. But since it's a low-fat fish that's just the way it works. Flavor was great, too. Not sure I'd pay full price but perhaps as part of a larger spread for a special occasion where folks would appreciate the unique nature.

Would have loved this Thingdrop as a sample pack. It's too bad the actual can wasn't also decorated. Would look fly on a charcuterie board.

Absolutely obsessed with Fishwife’s branding. Everything from the boxes the tins come in to the packaging tape are just done so well and are so cute. As for the product itself, I’m so glad I got to try the campfire cod. It was so tasty and had so much flavor. Definitely looking forward to trying other Fishwife products!

Part of the Thingdrop! I love the packaging in the box, it's probably my favorite part of the brand itself. Came in a set of 3 with some cute stickers.

Perhaps I'm picky with my canned fish but thought the taste for the canned cod was overall okay: the texture was a bit crumbly, and the oil mix was good but saltier than expected. Had it with a lettuce wrap but might benefit in a sandwich or large salad form.

I got the tinned salmon and it was SO good. 10/10 recommend. It was a little salty but the flavor was so good- can be eaten with a fork straight out of the can or is good in various recipes. I wish it was easier to find/buy because if it was I’d be restocking weekly!

A little expensive, and hard to find

Fishwife is one of my favorite brands I've discovered in 2022. I found them at my favorite neighborhood coffee shop, Mom 'n' Em and have been keeping them stocked in my pantry since. The Fly By Jing collab is one of my favorites, with the smoked trout as a very close second. They're great on their own, in a salad, in your ramen, or really in any way you'd like to consume them. I LOVE them as a camping snack. The packaging is TO DIE FOR cute and if you order from them you get cutie stickers as a bonus.

They're definitely a treat yo'self item for the price & size.

For all my tinned fish girlies - this is IT! Not only is the packaging the cutest, but the flavors are so so so yummy and the perfect topping on any crisp. The smoked salmon is definitely one of my favorites, especially paired with a pita chip, squeeze of lemon, side of mini pickles, a some hot sauce. This could easily be a yummy "girl dinner" or something to crack open with some friends over wine. Love this tinned brand!

Much hype. Finally tried Fishwife (the trout and the tuna) on a camping trip a few weeks back. Folks — it was good. It's simply high quality fish, well-preserved, in a (I have to hand it to them) delightful little package. Sure, it's pricey, and I won't buy it all the time. But for a camping treat, as a gift, or for a fancy snack situation — absolutely. The price seems justified by the quality and sustainability; good food is not always cheap. Hype is real.

Great flavor and branding, but not quite great enough to justify the steep price. I tried Fishwife's limited-edition Campfire Cod product as part of a ThingDrop. The flavor was fresh and smoky and the quality of the fish was evident -- plus the packaging was fun and inspired. But the price was beyond what I would reasonably consider paying for fish. With a retail price of $39 for three *small* tins (smaller than standard fish tins), I could not see myself buying this again without the discounted price I first received. Perhaps I'm vastly misunderstanding the true cost of ethically-sourced seafood, but $13 for a few bites of canned cod just doesn't seem worth it to me.

I would highly suggest seeking ways to cut costs without compromising on values and mission, to the extent possible.

I was really excited to receive the campfire cod but kinda wished it was a variety pack because I would have loved to try the other tinned fish Fishwife offers. I had a little straight out of the tin but it was a hair too salty so I used the rest on a piece of toasted sourdough with some cream cheese and leftover salad. It was delicious! While I thought it was delicious this way, I think that eating it straight out of the tin wouldn't really be enjoyable. Maybe it's because cod doesn't lend itself to being tinned as well as say salmon, tuna, or sardines do...but the fish itself didn't have the best texture,

I recently tried the smoked cod collab with Graza and Diaspora and loved it. The packaging is obviously to die for and same goes for the branding in general. I love following Fish Wife and can't wait to see what they do next. Really excited to try their new little gems.

My only callout is that the amount of fish in the tin was quite small and I was expecting a bit more. We ended up needing to use two tins for our salad, but the fish itself was fantastic. Overall, I would definitely recommend!

I was gifted a tin of the Fishwife Salmon infused with Sichuan Chili Crisp sauce as a part of an incredible haul in my Christmas stocking by my daughter. She knows I love Salmon and spicy foods in general and that I had already been a fan of "Fly by Jing" the folks who supply the pepper sauce for what appears to be a collaboration with Fishwife. I opened the tin for a brunch the day after Christmas and shared it with visiting family as an appetizer with rice crackers. Everyone loved it! It has the perfect blend of spicy without blowing away the Salmon flavor. I took the last little chunk of it with my Spinach Omelette and it was outstanding! I don't know what she paid for it but I can say that this is a great product and highly "giftable" in its unique and fanciful package design.

They do need to carry the packaging design over to the tin can with a label. It came naked inside the box. I assume why they didn't if they are not selling these outside of the box and didn't want to hassle with all the legal labeling requirements - but long term it should be done to complete the consumer experience. Cheers - John

These took a bit to get to me.. but when they did show up the packaging was really great! The mailing box they came in had little fish, mermaids, umbrellas and other cute things on it. The product packaging was just as cute! I ordered the cod. The packaging says it is wild caught Alaska cod which if I am going to eat fish I prefer it to be wild and not farm raised. Bonus there! I decided that my husband and I would try it for a little snack with crackers. The can inside the product packaging is "naked" so if you wanted to get rid of the outer packaging you would have to write on the can so you know what is in it. When I opened the can it smelled like a campfire, which I loved! It didn't have that bad fishy smell to it which was a plus. My husband and I both tried it and we weren't really impressed. It wasn't horrible but for me it is not something that I am willing to spend the money on to order again.
