Reviews mention

  • Versatile, umami-rich flavor profile
  • Clean, simple ingredient list
  • Consistent, gluten-free option
  • Attractive, delightful packaging
  • Thin, runny sauce consistency
  • Overly sweet flavor profile
  • Mild, underpowered spicy heat
  • Clog-prone, finicky bottle nozzle

Bachan’s earns strong reviews as a versatile, flavorful Japanese-style barbecue/teriyaki sauce that reliably elevates rice bowls, salmon, chicken, tofu, noodles, and more, with clean, simple ingredients and options like Original, Yuzu, Hot & Spicy, Honey Barbecue, and Gluten-Free. Reviews also flag drawbacks: the sauce skews sweet and notably thin/runny, some desire more heat in spicy versions, and packaging issues like clogged nozzles, pop-off lids, and plastic bottles detract from an otherwise widely loved staple.

  • I tried the Japanese barbeque sauce and while I think the packaging is great, and I love the idea of having more, unique flavors conveniently in my fridge or pantry (Im a big fan of Omsom, & Fly By Jing for example) this produst just isnt worth the money or fridge space.

Way too watery. The sauce doesnt stick to food at all, just seeps to the bottom of the bowl. I ended up reducing the sauce a couple of times which worked, but why am I gonna pay for all that water?

  • My husband picked up the original Japanese BBQ flavor at Costco to try out, and it's good! Our kiddo loves it (win!!) and is perfect to drizzle over rice, veggies, etc., and to use as a sauce to cook with. It IS a bit on the sweeter side, which is fine for us - but may not be to others liking.

  • Bechan’s Japanese BBQ is a culinary gem that delivers an unforgettable dining experience. The flavors are perfectly balanced, with rich, savory marinades that elevate every cut of meat. The attention to detail in preparation and presentation is unmatched, making each bite a perfect blend of smoky, tender, and flavorful. Whether you’re grilling with friends or enjoying a solo indulgence, Bechan’s creates an atmosphere that’s both authentic and inviting. It’s a must-visit for anyone who loves premium barbecue with a Japanese twist.

  • If you want your fried rice to taste like it does at the hibachi grill - this is the way to do it! I have tried all of their sauces and was surprised that all of them are great! Will continue to buy!

  • Loves this stuff, I eat it plain with avocado very often. The yuzu is my favorite!

  • Sooo tasty! I love the spicy flavor. A super versatile sauce for dipping things and tossing in a stir fry.

Sauce is a little runny, wish it was thicker.

  • Love these sauces! The flavor is great AND the ingredients are clean. Hard to find sauces this healthy and without additives and junk!

  • I love the gluten-free sauce, but I do wish they would make some of the others gluten-free as well

  • Delicious sauce! It is super flavor fun and such an upgrade from simple old soy sauce or teriyaki sauce! this sauce has high quality ingredients and has such amazing umami! great for marinades or to put on top!

  • I got the original Japanese BBQ flavor on sale at Costco and I couldn't get enough. it really goes well with everything, steamed veggies, poultry, even instant noodles. An Asian American success story.

  • Obsessed with this BBQ sauce - we use it for everything, dumplings, rice, chicken, beef. It's the best on the market and with pretty clean ingredients. Love the convenience of having this sauce to add some flavor.

  • I recently tried Bachan's Japanese-inspired barbecue sauces, and while there are certainly some standout qualities, there are also some aspects that might not be for everyone. The first thing that struck me was the authenticity of the flavors. Each sauce has a unique blend of ingredients that deliver a rich, savory experience, perfect for grilling, marinating, or even as a dipping sauce. It's clear that a lot of care and expertise have gone into crafting these sauces. However, I couldn't help but notice the high sugar content. While the sweetness complements certain dishes, for my palate, it was a bit overpowering. If you prefer your barbecue sauces on the sweeter side, you might find Bachan's to be just right. But if you're someone who likes more balanced or less sugary flavors, this might be a touch too much for you. Overall, Bachan's excels in delivering authentic, complex flavors with high-quality, all-natural ingredients. Just be prepared for a significant dose of sweetness.

  • My boyfriend bought a couple of these recently and I was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting them to be full of sugars and nasties, but actually the ingredients list was definitely better than expected and the taste is chefs kiss. Japanese BBQ is the fave right now. Wish it came in a glass bottle and not plastic!

  • Yes. Get the original teriyaki. It's perfect on absolutely everything. Costco now sells larger bottles too!

  • so good - bought the original sauce at costco, and it's now become our go-to sauce for everything (marinating meats, on top of rice, etc!)

  • I found Bachan in the fridge babysitting and after seeing the appealing packaging so many times, I had to pick it up at the store. These sauces taste AMAZING. I literally could put them on anything, and it would taste good. I've tried it on chicken, meat, and vegetables. So far, I have tried original and yuzu, but I prefer original. Literally no complaints about it. I've seen that they have changed their packaging to their tops, and I can't wait to finish my current bottle to see how they've improved. Everyone who likes Asian sauces needs this in their fridge.

  • I bought their bbq sauce from Costco. It's light, less tangy, and sweet. Great for marinades or applying on your meats for that caramelized char. Great base if you like mixing multiple sauces together.
