  • Rich umami-forward flavor profile
  • Versatile marinade-and-finisher sauce
  • Clean, simple ingredient list
  • Attractive, satisfying bottle design
  • Overly sweet flavor notes
  • Thin, runny sauce consistency
  • Clog-prone twist-top nozzle

Bachan’s earns enthusiastic reviews for delivering deeply savory, Japanese-inspired barbecue sauces that elevate everything from rice bowls and salmon to stir-fries, with standouts like Original, Yuzu, Miso, and Hot & Spicy. Reviews also surface consistent drawbacks: the sauce runs thin and can taste overly sweet, and the twist-top nozzle frequently clogs; some wish for bolder heat or more gluten-free variants—strong reasons to sample flavors before committing.

  • YUM! I am obsessed with this brand and their products. Can’t get enough and have been a customer for years. So glad to find them now at my local Target!

  • Didn't know what to expected going in but really like it, bbq with a bit of a twist.

  • I use Bachan's to make veggie + protein rice bowls at home and it's excellent. Sweet, salty goodness, like I usually get from my favorite local teriyaki joints., It's perfect for marinading salmon or chicken, or used as a sauce to top the entire thing at the end. I've also played around quite a bit with hacking Bachan's to maximize specific flavors - ginger, sesame oil, etc - and it's great for that. It's just such a solid and versatile sauce, and for someone with two kids, it's way easier than making my own.

Honestly, pricing is my biggest issue here, but since I don't use it more than once a week, it's not such a big deal. I was originally a bit reluctant to try Bachan's because of the pricing, but I'm glad I overcame that, because this stuff is delicious.

  • SO good! I put it on everything. Only qualm is that the top of the bottle can get clogged.

  • Delicious. Had wanted to try it, but was intimidated by the price. A friend had some in their fridge; gave it a try and bought some of my own. Yes, it would be possibly to approximate a version of this; the ingredients aren't uncommon. But this is convenient and high quality. My initial hesitation re: price no longer exists — you could go overboard and burn through this stuff impractically quickly, but a little goes a long way, and can be carried further with other flavoring agents and liquids. Cost is a little high but the quality is there. Only issue I’ve had is with the nozzle on the bottle getting plugged up.

  • I committed to this sauce after seeing a big bottle at my local Costco and I don't regret my purchase. It's great as a marinade or a sauce.

As others have mentioned, it is a lot runnier than what I expected, closer to a soy sauce than what you'd think of an American barbeque sauce.

  • Really good sauce, I really enjoyed it with chicken and veggies. Kind of reminded me of the type of sauce you get in mall teriyaki which in my book is a good thing

  • yummmmmmmm. delicious on everything from chicken, to veggies, in a stir fry, as a dipping sauce...

  • The sauce was very tasty and was perfect with my zucchini and squash!

    Nothing, excellent product

  • Omg, this sauce. We stock up when it is at Costco as you get twice as much for the price. We put it on nearly everything, but especially love it over salmon rice bowls or glazed chicken thighs. This is a true 10/10!

  • I love their bbq sauce. I use to all the time as a glaze for wings.

  • This is one of my favorite sauces- currently eating a generous drizzle on a slice of baked potato pizza. Also delicious on a variety of noodles. Added to avocado toast. It's a win, worth the purchase.

  • This sauce is really tasty! I usually use this sauce on top of things I've already seasoned and cooked. Because it's thin, it would require A LOT of sauce to cook with it, but I love it as a topping. Also super cute branding is always a plus.

  • Grabbed a bottle of the teriyaki-sauce from costco and it's now become my go-to on everything! Not too sweet, rich umami flavor, gingery.

  • Bought the supersized version at Costco. The price is good for a specialty sauce. The sauce flavor is an elevated Asian BBQ sauce that works with almost any dish, any meats, veggies, etc.

The squeeze top is hard to keep clean between uses.

  • I really love the flavor, it’s an easy addition to meats or tofu to get a good Asian barbecue taste.

    Feedback

It’s a runny sauce, but this is offset if you cook it down with your protein or vegetables

  • I LOVE Bachans. It’s sweet like a teriyaki sauce but with a greater depth in flavor and bit umami. It’s one of my staples, I always put it out when I serve fried rice, dumplings, or tofu.
