Curology earns polarized reviews: many report clearer skin within weeks and praise the streamlined, prescription-based routine and gentle basics, while others see no improvement or worsening irritation, dryness, and breakouts. Reviews also cite customizable formulas and convenient onboarding as strengths but flag impersonal clinician rotation, questionable “customization,” over-frequent shipments, small or finicky packaging, and aggressive billing as drawbacks—useful context if deciding between Curology and an in-person dermatologist.

I'm shocked the rating isn't 5/5! I've had such a great experience with Curology's products and tell anyone who will listen. I love their approach to simplifying the daily skincare routine, using high quality ingredients, minimalist packaging, and above all else, it's made a huge difference in my skin!

Wish that I could purchase the moisturizer or face wash as a one-off rather than having to add on the pair in my next shipment.

I appreciated the convenience of Curology where getting a prescription could be done online in a short amount of time (and easily too).

I wish there was a better way to check in with them and tweak my prescription. For the year or so where I was subscribed, I was intimidated and also kept forgetting to post progress photos and consult with them. Wish there was another way of sharing updates beyond taking photos.
While the product and service are generally satisfactory, I find the subscription process frustrating and inconvenient. Curology ships my subscription earlier than scheduled without sending a prior notification or reminder. Most other subscription services I use send an email 2-3 days in advance, allowing me to delay the order if I’m traveling or not ready. Unfortunately, the only notification I receive from Curology is a PayPal receipt, which comes after the subscription has already processed. Implementing a reminder system would significantly enhance the customer experience.
Curology did nothing for me other than break my skin barrier. I followed directions as instructed, and my skin was absolutely raw from the tretinoin. I stopped using it for two weeks to heal my skin, before giving it another chance only for the same thing to happen. I reached out to customer service and they prescribed me a weaker tretinoin but my skin was still raw from it.

While I stopped my subscription due to little results, I do think their cleanser and moisturizer were very effective and good products.
We got this for my teenaged daughter when over-the-counter products weren’t helping her acne at the recommendation of my step-sister. My daughter had a subscription for about three years. Her skin cleared up in a couple of weeks and stayed that when until she forgot it visiting a friend for the weekend. She also found that another company’s spot correction patches worked more quickly when she had a stress or hormonal flair up, but the cleanser and moisturizer were the long-term cure to her continuous breakouts. My only complaint is that she was locked out of her subscription account because she used an old email address she can’t access anymore. We couldn’t figure out how to switch her account to her new email.
This stuff fixed my skin in a matter of weeks and started to work instantly

Overall, I had a good experience with Curology. I really loved the personalized care I received and their recommendations really cleared up the texture issues I was having. My only complaint was the amount of product I was received was too much, too often so I ended up cancelling my subscription. It has been 2 years since I quit paying for curology and I’m still using their product in tandem with other products that I have tried since then. You can set how much product you want to receive, but it always comes every 2 months when you are charged for your subscription. I wish there was a way to modify that 2 month schedule to something slower.

Too much of a great product too often. I couldn’t get through it fast enough without feeling incredibly wasteful.

I think if you are a baller on a budget, then this is the product for you. If you have the money to get a tret from your dermatologist, this isn't for you. As someone who like the simplicity of the product (and has really awful cystic acne) this has helped a lot!

I discontinued the prescription products because my skin was never able to adapt to tretinoin and the other Rx didn’t make a dent when my hyperpigmentation. However, I love their moisturizer. It never breaks me out and it keeps my skin happy, even in the winter. I also love that I can now buy it at Target rather than having it shipped to me.
Curology has been a game-changer for my skin. Not only has it effectively controlled my hormonal acne, but it also prevents any blemishes or infections from forming. I couldn't be happier with the results.

I used Curology before I went on Accutane and I had higher expectations for the price. I canceled my subscription after about three months because I figured I could use other products that had the same or greater effect on my skin. Curology is a great idea, but recreating my own skincare routine is more affordable.
Was really surprised how well this was working for me. Their branding is simple but comforting. I'm on month 3 and have seen my acne clean up a ton, though it made me get a lot of black heads. Talking to their support team is easy and they were quick to come back with feedback for a stronger formula for my custom formula

The spf 30 chap stick sucks. The other one's are great so maybe refine that one more?

I think it did a great job of rescuing my skin by putting it on a routine and reducing the amount of nonessential products I used. Having one serum that I used every night and cutting out the rest really helped my acne, but after ~2 years I eventually found which ingredients I needed and switched to purchasing just those. The ingredients don't really require a dermatologist's prescription, but having them there to review pictures of my skin and suggest alternative ingredients at the beginning of my acne journey was so nice and helpful.

Not much. I think they're really great for people who are just starting out learning about ingredients and trying to find a really simplified but custom routine.

Helped me a bit but stopped seeing results after a few weeks. I've heard other people having a great experience but I didn't have much success.

For the price there are better alternatives.
I used this for a few months and it was easy enough to get started. The product was fine but I feel like it didn't help much with my acne. I ended up canceling and going to a dermatologist who prescribed me stronger stuff which has significantly improved my skin faster and better than curology.

I think the brand overall is pretty okay. Though I'm not an expert, I don't know of any other ways to get prescription strength tretinoin outside of physically going to your doctor/dermatologist and getting a prescription. I thought the packaging was fine, though impossible to tell how much product you have left which puts a lot of pressure on the subscription timing being correct. The results were alright. My skin seemed a bit more balanced and looked less blotchy. I have since moved to a different product which so far is giving better results.

The frequent changing of my primary provider didn't inspire much confidence or trust in the brand.

I was super excited to try Curology given all the miraculous skin transformations I had seen on its website & IG. However, I was super disappointed with my experience. I waited patiently beyond the 3 months the brand recommends to start seeing an improvement - I was subscribed for a total of 7 months and saw no change in my skin. My formula was tweaked, but this also had no positive impact, instead it led to a lot or irritation and dryness. During the period, my assigned dermatologist also changed 3 times, and it was really not reassuring to be starting from scratch multiple times with someone who I felt had no understanding of my skin issues.

Dermatologists should not be reassigned so frequently. Also, the brand should make it possible to buy their facewash/moisturizer etc. without having to order the custom formula, which lasts much longer.
I had really bad acne about three years ago and tried Curology with some friends. Unfortunately, my acne case was a bit more complicated, and I did not achieve the expected results; however, my friends' skins were glowing and acne-free. Either way, I love the Curology brand, what it stands for, and the customer service.
Former Curology subscriber from 2016-2019 The Good: Seamless interface, easy subscription management, simple skincare routine, and helps clear up acne. The Meh: The night cream bottle size (meant to last two months) almost *never* got me the full two months - and I had to reorder it manually to get a new one on time. Nor did they offer the ability to adjust my subscription timings (take a page out of Harry's book please!) The Bad: The bottles were not super well-designed - getting the last bit of the night cream out was always a hassle (a universal problem in skincare, yes) and the day moisturizer bottle (at least in the first year of its launch) was *always* getting stuck. Cannot speak to whether that has been fixed in the past two years. But at the end of the day, Curology is not *truly* custom skincare. It's effectively a higher dose of tretinoin for most subscribers, mixed with some other ingredients, and packaged and branded very nicely. Tretinoin does help quite a bit with clearing up acne (it did help me!) but then your skin ends up getting used to it - in which case, Curology simply ups your dosage. Which can be potentially drying out for your skin. And, more importantly, is not a sustainable skincare regimen. I steer all my friends away from Curology simply because the trick to helping your skin is not to treat or suppress the specific symptoms your skin is exhibiting, but to help you work *with* your skin to improve your skin health. Disclaimer: above thoughts on efficacy of tretinoin and Curology products based on a series of conversations with my brother-in-law (a dermatologist).
