OLAPLEX reviews and discussion

Reviews mention

  • Potent bond-repair technology
  • Luxurious clean fragrance
  • Highly concentrated formulas
  • Effective brass-neutralizing pigment
  • Inconsistent results across hair
  • Potentially drying formulas
  • Heavy feel on fine hair
  • Staining purple pigment

OLAPLEX earns polarized reviews: it visibly strengthens and revives bleached or damaged hair—No. 3 Hair Perfector, No. 6 Bond Smoother, No. 7 Bonding Oil, and the 4P Purple Shampoo are frequent standouts—yet many users report dryness, heaviness, or even increased shedding and brittleness if overused. The brand is praised for salon-clean scent, rich lather, and fast toning, but criticized for inconsistent results across hair types and small, hard-to-dispense bottles.

  • The four star rating is purely for size of container. I wish that there was more product per price. But as someone who frequently dies and bleaches their hair, this is lovely for keeping my hair healthy and clean.

  • Excellent product and worth buying again. I was satisfied with the quality, may even be better than what I normally purchase. I would definitely buy this again and will be trying the varieties offered.

  • I promise you this product was a no go for my hair. Maybe it does work for others but it was overly priced for nothing when it came to mine. My hair became brittle and the shedding was more visible after months of using the products.

  • I've tried a few of the Olaplex products and I'm just not a big fan of this brand. I don't like the shampoo and conditioner (No 3 and No 4). The shampoo is okay if you only use it once a week max as a clarifying shampoo, if you use it any more then it's too drying. The conditioner is average, nothing special. Doesn't detangle well or make my hair smooth/soft/etc. I also have the leave in bond protector (No 9) and the hair perfector (No 3) and don't find either of them really do much. The only product I think is worth it is the purple shampoo (No 4P). It's the best purple shampoo I've ever used, it really works to brighten blonde hair/remove brass tones. It's quite strong though so I would only use it once a week. Also, it does temporarily dye my hands purple. Overall, I don't really recommend Olaplex, the products are way too expensive for what they are.

  • Olaplex is great. I found their system a little too fussy for the outcome, but I’d go back to their products any time. I have very straight, fine hair. Too much moisture weighs my hair down but I didn’t have that problem with olaplex. For the price, there are other brands that I like better for my hair type.

  • I wanted to love Olaplex after seeing it all over my socials and having friends rave about the brand. As a woman with frizzy fine hair, but a lot of it, I was looking forward to trying the shampoo, conditioner, and treatment options. Unfortunately, these products left my hair feeling greasy and weighed down, no matter how I tried to change up my wash routine. I'd imagine these products would be great for people with heavily chemically altered hair or damaged hair.

  • There’s a reason this brand is so huge! Works so well. No split ends and my hair looks awesome.

  • I use the shampoo and conditioner and love it! A little bit goes a long way, smell is great and my hair is super shiny

  • I absolutely love their hair products. They help keep your hair in great condition.

  • I had the opportunity to try the No.7 Bonding Hair Oil on both my daughters hair and their hair responded really well after their blow out. I will be trying again very soon.

  • We love this product at home. Everyone uses it and feels the difference in our hair. We feel luxurious without having to spend too much!

  • I really love that olaplex protects my hair when I am getting bleach treatments at the salon but aside from their hair perfector I haven't been a huge fan of olaplex products. I have tried the bonding cream, bond building spray, bond maintenance shampoo and conditioner and the clarifying shampoo (will elaborate on this one) I overall haven't been impressed and expected my hair to feel as well as when my hairstylist would treat my hair with olaplex. I understand salon level products will be better but it is still disappointing. The one that shocked me the most was the clarifying shampoo that left my scalp and hair feeling beyond dry and straw like. I was shocked at how my hair felt, it's not something I would ever have expected from olaplex despite not being the hugest fan of their products aside from what my stylist would use and no3 hair perfector. My rating is 3 stars because no3 is a great product but the rest of olaplex products I have tried have been a disappointment.

  • The products make me feel great and luxurious.

  • Great branding and form factor. Did not really seem like a ultra premium hair product and I would prefer Aesop next time. Would try again at a slightly lower price.

  • As a licensed cosmetologist, I would say Olaplex treatments get the job done

  • Didn’t love the conditioner, I didn’t feel like it was thick enough

  • olaplex is by far the best shampoo and conditioner i have ever used. i color my hair and this does not strip the color. it also makes my hair manageable with no frizz or dry ends.
