Fly by Jing delivers bold, versatile Sichuan-inspired condiments that, according to reviews, elevate everything from eggs and noodles to dumplings—Zhong Sauce and the OG Sichuan Chili Crisp draw repeated praise for layered umami, balanced heat, and everyday usability. Reviews also flag notable drawbacks: some find the chili crisp too oily, less crispy or milder than expected, with occasional smoky bitterness and jar leakage—plus comparisons to Lao Gan Ma or Momofuku on flavor and spice—and some mention inconsistent crunch and a need to stir.

It actually tastes pretty good, I’m seriously impressed. But I’ll be hesistant to buy it since it’s $17+ for 1 bottle - and also because it’s not super spicy, my husband and I scoop quite a lot for a meal.

Good, but not amazing. Tried over an egg and with rice and it’s missing some of the umami and garlic I’m used to with classic brands or homemade. This came off as majority salty. Would be interested to try the other sauces, but it’s not my favorite chili crisp.

I added this chili crisp into my dumplings and y’all the flavor did not miss. I like to add a little bit of heat to my meals and this chili crisp pairs with literally anything. 10/10!!

If I were ever to write a love letter, it would be to FBJs Sichuan Chili Crisp. I go through these jars so fast so I've started ordering the XL jars. It's become a staple for me and every time I see it in Whole Foods I grab a jar or two. The other sauces are also stars but the Chili Crisp is by far my favorite one that I've ever had. The texture is great and I especially love the fermented beans. Some chili crisps make me feel like I am going to break a tooth on the hard seeds and such, but this one has the best texture. Add it to literally anything - toasts, eggs, pizza, noodles, mac n cheese, etc.

Try all of their spices/sauces to see which ones you like! The vinaigrette and the new chili oils are great. Saw the chili oil on hot ones and got super excited.

I got the Fly By Jing Sichuan Chili Crisp and have to say I was really surprised by the taste. But like in a very good way. There's a smoky element to the Sichuan flavor that is in my opinion more complex than a lot of more generic chili oils you'll find out and about. I also splurged for the Salsero Spoon. At $45, it's definitely a premium add on, but really elevates the entire user experience. One of the most annoying parts about chili oil is that it can get EVERYWHERE, especially all over the cap of most bottles. With the Salsero spoon, that never happens, and it actually makes it easier to use the sauce more often, and more liberally. Genius.

Where the non-meat dumplings at?!?

I bought this at the cost of $11.99 for a 6-oz jar at Target. Brought it home and read the label, found out the sauce was…. made in China! I felt so betrayed, lol. There’s so much oil and liquid in the jar while there’s little chili. If you like to chew on the chili, this is not for you. I don’t think I’ll buy it again.

I tried Sichuan Chili crisp and it is very impressive. It is the classic spicy taste from Sichuan! I like to add the oil to soup or noodles. And use the crisp to cook. it is not only spicy but also delicious. It will be even better if the price can be lower.

Big fan of Fly by Jing so was very excited to try their chili crisp. Lives up to the hype! Really lovely amount of spice that packs a lot of flavor without being overwhelmingly spicy. nice texture to the crisp and definitely a very versatile ingredient (I would recommend you use this as an ingredient rather than an all purpose sauce as it needs salt to round out the flavor, but that makes it so good for cooking!)

Amazing sauce. The flavors are astonishingly well-balanced! I love cooking, and very often I feel like something is missing in my dishes, you know, that certain something... And by adding a bit of this spice, I'm thrilled, it's just what I needed! Adding a little bit gives me a balanced flavor in the finished dish! How does it work? I can't answer, maybe the secret lies in the balance of these spices! And despite a small disappointment: the jar somehow leaks, and I'm upset because I'm constantly losing precious drops of this sauce, I still give it a maximum rating! Because I've fallen in love with this product! And my husband has fallen in love with it too!

The overall flavor is good. It’s definitely something to use as an addition. I tried it by itself and it was ok. It had a slight smokey taste with a spicy kick to it. I then tried adding it to soy sauce, and it definitely enhanced the flavor of the soy sauce, again, adding a kick of spice to it, but nothing overpowering. I would’ve waited on the medium scale in regards to how spicy it is. I will say I struggled a lot to open the jar.

LOVE! I wish I could try every flavor they have but let's start with their original: Sichuan Chili Crisp - I added them to my dan dan noodles + topped them off on some dumplings. 8.5/10. The flavor is distinct but I do wish it could be a bittttt spicier (They have spicier flavors). - I am very curious how they taste on ice cream :) If you're looking for a weeknight kick in your meals, Fly by Jing is IT. I recommend getting more than one so you can dance around with the flavors depending on your mood.

I love love love chili crisp but had yet to try the Fly by Jing variety. I would always see where it should beon the shelves, but it would be sold out, making it clear it was more popular than the rest because I had yet to get my hands on a container. The Fly by Jing Xtra Spicy Chili Crisp packaging had me worried it would be too spicy for me. Don’t get me wrong I looove spicy, but I saw the black and red packaging almost like a warning label and had me questioning whether it would exceed my spice tolerance, but I was still willing to give it a go. When I opened the lid you could smell a savory umami, almost soy sauce based savory flavor. Interestingly smelled kind of like well seasoned beef jerky. I ended up putting a dollop of the chili crisp onto my fried eggs with a glass of water nearby just in case it was too spicy. The flavor is wonderful. It’s well rounded, balanced, and it’s got heat to it but not overly spicy. It’s like an approachable kick to it. I can see it going really well on pizza, grilled cheese, on top of soup and could even make new dipping sauces with the delicious sauce adding depth and dynamic

Zhong sauce takes my eggs to the next level. It adds umami right where you want it!

I’ve only tried the zhong sauce so far but I am obsessed! You can add it to anything and it’ll taste great.

This is so delicious with just noodles or with just a piece of chicken. Spicy 🌶️ but love the heat.

Adds delicious flavor to anything! Definitely spicy, but that can be controlled by how much of it you use. It can be a bit messy though so make sure to wipe your counter or table after using it, and wipe the jar before storing it.
