Reviews mention

  • Luxurious personalized packaging
  • Customizable elegant fragrances
  • Detailed tailoring questionnaire
  • Noticeably softer, shinier hair
  • Inconsistent curl definition
  • Occasional drying formulas
  • Lightweight, underpowered conditioner
  • Potential scalp irritation/shedding

Prose earns strong reviews for customized hair and skincare that often deliver softer, cleaner-feeling hair, reduced frizz, easier detangling, defined curls, and healthier-feeling scalps; however, results vary, with some users reporting dryness, greasiness, or even increased shedding. Reviewers praise the detailed quiz, personalized scents, and luxe, name-printed packaging, while noting inconsistent curl performance, lightweight conditioners that can feel insufficient, and formulas that don’t always outperform standard products.

  • I can’t say enough about these products!! I have tried so many different products that claim to work but didn’t. I think because it’s all personalized it makes such a difference. I had a very bad problem with my hair shedding and since I started taking the pills as well as using the shampoo and conditioner my hair as stopped shedding and growing much faster. I am so happy with the way my hair looks! Thank you so much for developing this product.

  • The ordering process, packaging and customization were great. It looks very professional. The product itself was not good for my hair so I discontinued its use recently after 1.5 months of using the shampoo. My hair got drier and frizzier, which is the opposite of what I was looking for.

  • Super basic. I love that they use good ingredients and have vegan/cruelty free products, but they don’t do much for your hair! My hair is naturally wavy and slightly curly; i was hoping the curl cream would boost that and volume but it did jack. one day post shower, my naturally voluminous hair was DEAD straight and my roots were flat. so sad. They say they’re customized but part of me feels like they have 3 formulas total and you just get one of those lol. It’s also SUCH. a tiny bottle for shampoo. like damn. i try to get plastic free options (i’m a shampoo bar gal) but wanted to try prise because of all the raving reviews. now i’m convinced prose just shows the good reviews and hides bad ones. sorry not sorry.

Don’t charge $30 for 8fl oz. if you claim your shampoo is volumizing, it shouldn’t flatten my hair. Curl cream is only 5 oz and also a total waste of money. my drugstore Shea Moisture did better. prose isn’t worth the money or the 2 hour hair hype. Use less plastic and packaging. THANK YOU for using vegan and cruelty free - but you should list that on the bottle. you should also not send a separate piece of paper with instructions… another waste and you could just put it on the bottle…

  • Smell is good but not sure the impact it had on my hair taking the vitamins, doing the mask, and all the treatments. I did see it helped with keep your hair from feeling greasy. The hair mask is a process every time you are shampooing which is recommended.

Too much product for 30 days and website is hard to navigate when you need to pause membership.

  • If you want to LOSE hair, get Prose! This is what it’s doing to my hair after the fourth wash… I’m losing it in chunks. And this is just in the shower. There was more all over me and my hands and I can only imagine what went down the drain. It’s very sad to see so much hair shedding for such a “natural” product!

    Just don’t use Prose.

  • Really liked it for my hair but it didn’t do anything special 💕

  • Overall, I LOVE the shampoo!!

Received a free product from Prose
  • I tried the custom shampoo and conditioner and liked it a lot. I had been a long-time Function of Beauty lover prior to ordering and was curious what Prose might be like instead. I tried them for almost a year and ultimately switched back to Function of Beauty. Pros: it felt high-quality, smelled great, and left my hair feeling clean and healthy. Cons: the bottle size was smaller than I prefer (had to order more frequently as I wash my hair every day), and I felt like I needed a lot of product to get my hair clean (approximately 4 pumps per wash for medium length hair with a lather, rinse, and repeat).

  • I did not notice hair growth but their products smell amazing and feel high quality!

  • #ProsePraise I purchased a bottle of champions and subscribed to get it at a cheaper price and forgot to unsubscribe. Customer service team responded within an hour on a Sunday and handled the transaction extremely swiftly. Great customer service and the shampoo I received has been amazing so far as well. I just had a full bottle and did not need another one just yet! Will be re ordering and highly recommend the brand. Great customer service and high quality products.

  • I liked the quality of the product and the trial pricing, but they don’t notify you before charging you full-price for the next shipment! I just got a notification from my credit card that I’d been charged and no cancellation due to the product being personalized. Luckily I got ahold of someone in customer support and they refunded me eventually, they were kind.

  • Average hair products coupled with a subscription scam. Renewed subscription after 4 weeks with no warning & refused refund. Reputable businesses with good products never need to scam you like this.

  • Got the skin care samples and they worked great! Then the first full shipment came and they were totally different products that didn't work well. The lotion was greasy and the serum was sticky. Nothing like the products I had gotten as samples. Total bait and switch. Customer service said they couldn't just send me the same products as the sample formulas and sent me a form to fill out to instead adjust the products I had received. I couldn't have been more clear that these were not working, not as I received in samples, and I just wanted the original formulas they sent as samples. Nope, the new shipment still came exactly the same as the previous with the crappy products. Don't waste your money and get your hope up. They send you good products as samples and then poor quality products as your regular shipments.

  • Amazing. Really defined my curls, I thought they were just waves until I tried prose it made my hair shiny soft feels amazing!! I would recommend to anyone. Works wonders for me, gave me a new brand for my hair.

  • I’ve been using the curl cream for over a year now. Outstanding product for fine curly hair. I’ve never been able to use product as it would weigh my hair down and become greasy. The curl cream defines my curl, soft, defined and not heavy at all. Amazing

  • They layer the subscriptions they offer, and hide that you have two subscriptions. So if you cancel one subscription, you've still got the other subscription active. Of course, they also don't notify you before they charge you for the hidden subscription. And then they say they can't cancel the order/charge "because it's custom", but you can return it, which voids the logic of not being able to cancel the order in the first place. I HATE places like this. Is the product good? Yes - the haircare is. The skincare is not. But you get looped into their charging machine known as a subscription service. It's not worth it. The sneaky subscription practices are not worth the product. All they'd have to do is send an email a few days before they charged us, to notify us of the charge. But of course they don't. Then their entrapment machine wouldn't work. And at $130 a month per customer, that's a very profitable entrapment machine.

  • I kept seeing ads for Prose everywhere and decided to try it since my hair is typically heat damaged and no drugstore or salon shampoo and conditioner was helping to improve its health. I love the idea of a tailored product just for me based on my exact needs—you can even customize the scent or have no scent. The questionnaire was thorough enough without being overwhelming and some of the questionnaires provided photos or diagrams so I could really match my hair issues and wants to what Prose could provide. I enjoyed the swift process and being able to dial in my priorities like, hydration, softness, shine, repairing split ends, and building growth. The 8.5 ounce bottles for shampoo and conditioner ended up being about $25 each, which I had mixed feelings about, but it actually is comparable to higher end brands when I compared. The process was easy to order and they communicate often via email to let you know about shipping, billing, and even customize the label of your bottles. I’ve gone through 4 bottles total and will keep using while also trying other brands to compare. The biggest difference I noticed was the slipperiness and smoothness of my hair, which they was from the silicon in the product; they give detailed and informative explanations of the ingredients and how they contribute to solving/helping your hair. The overall brand and experience feels very luxe and is a much different, more elevated experience than purchasing items from big retailers. I also appreciate that the formula is freshly made because I’ve bought new shampoos that quickly expire. What was interesting and a little much was the up-selling Prose does with offering supplementary products, like hair oil, hair mask, hair brushes (you can even get your name on a brush), etc. I haven’t purchased these and assume they can’t be that much different than competitors—and it was a bit forceful to have them suggested to me after taking the questionnaire because I felt like it was gimmicky. I recommend trying Prose shampoo, conditioner or both and seeing if you see/feel a difference. The subscription is easy to manage if you want to reorder, pause, or cancel.

  • I loved the idea that Prose would customize for your location and season although I wasn't super impressed by the formula. I enjoyed the smell and the process of creating the shampoo and conditioner but found that I could have gotten a similar experience with other products.

  • Loved the idea behind this concept. Sounds amazing, right? I loved the experience of taking the quiz, of receiving a very beautiful Shampoo bottle, and it lasted a long time (I have thin/short hair)

Ultimately, it didn't solve the issues that it was supposed to address. My hair didn't feel or look any different. So, I decided to move towards a more cost effective shampoo option.
