Function of Beauty reviews and discussion

The shampoo and conditioner were okay. I didn't find that it helped my hair at all. I saw other reviews commenting that it caused hair loss, thankfully that wasn't the case for me but I am wary of their products.

Gave me hair loss that took MONTHS to recover. Please check the reviews before getting this!! It's awful, awful, awful.

I ordered the custom shampoo, hoping that it would be my #1. The features on the website were fun to fill out and the box came in cute packaging with stickers to decorate your custom bottles. I was excited to try my custom shampoo, but, it left a burning sensation on my scalp.

It’s a fun concept but I didn’t love the smell or dye they put in it and it made my hair feel weighed down and greasy. I immediately went back to my old shampoo and was glad I was able to try it for free.

I used this product for years and was pleased with the experience and results of using the products. I was able to adjust specifics of what I wanted from the shampoo and conditioner, the amount, and frequency of the subscription.

I love the idea of function of beauty and I really like the customized colors and the cute sticker sheets that come with every order. But tbh I just feel like the formula doesn't do much for my hair. I've used function of beauty on and off for a few years and every time, regardless of the hair goals I input, the products feel exactly the same and don't really do what they say. They're fine shampoos and conditioners, but they aren't anything special. In contrast, I tried Prose and could really really see a difference in hair health, but Prose is so expensive that I switched to FoB.

Personally, it's not for me, but to be fair it will always be difficult for me to let go of my holy grail shampoo and conditioner that I've used for years. I enjoy the package design and that you're able to purchase refillables. I also think it's fun that you're able to customize the color and scent of the products. I have medium-thick, oily hair and I felt that the shampoo just didn't really work for me. The conditioner is hydrating and the scent is great. I have a leftover bottle of conditioner which I'll continue to use until it's finished but will most likely not purchase again.

I’ve actually been using them for several years - I remember signing up when they first launched in the UK. It’s fine, but the novelty has sort of worn off over the years and I don’t think their formulas are that special. I used to use shampoo + conditioner, but discontinued the conditioner - didn’t find it worked for me. I still have lots left over so use the shampoo, which works just fine. Just not sure it’s any better than other brands

Great idea, amazing smell. The customized hair products is a good idea in theory but in the end, there is a personal experience tied to each customer. I have used the customized and store-bought and would just say it was "ok" nothing was wrong, I just wasn't wowed after practically doubling my hair care routine for these products.

Really fun product to customize for yourself. I'm not really sure how much of a difference I noticed within my hair - but I like being able to pick my own scent/color and personalizing the care.

it just doesn’t feel like it works

Love the whole customization concept and scents, but it left a chemical residue on my hair that messes with bleach. Used this for about 7 months and didn’t notice a huge difference with the hair goals I chose. Unfortunately had to stop using this and switch to something else. Would only recommend this if you don’t bleach/color your hair. Wish I could love this as much as everyone else!

I didn't love it, but it wasn't a bad experience either. I used it about three years ago, making my hair dryer and more tangled. However, I love the experience of personalizing your shampoo and taking the "quiz" on the website.

I have long been a fan personally and professionally. So many custom combinations makes it very giftable and allow for seasonal (or whenever) changes.

I’m very picky about hair products because my very curly hair can be pretty finicky and unmanageable. I was mainly drawn to the concept of customizing one's own hair care with this line and decided to try it out. The experience is amazing — I loved taking the quiz and personalizing the products to my liking, and the packaging is very Instagrammable.

Loved the customizable options for hair products and it smelled/looked amazing, but didn't leave my hair feeling any different.

Cute packaging, shipping was slow, product itself was just okay!

Used FoB for a few years. Very cute experience, my hair likes them too! Great gift.

Unexceptional product that didn't meet expectations and definitely didn't achieve any "customized hair goals".
