Kristin Ess earns mixed reviews: many find the shampoos, masks, and styling sprays make hair softer, shinier, and more voluminous with a luxe scent, while others report scalp tightness, residue, frizz, or even increased shedding with certain lines. Reviews praise standout performers like the Dry Finish Working Texture Spray, Thickening Spray, purple shampoo/conditioner, and Ultra Hydrating Curl Repair Mask, but note inconsistent results across hair types and products that can feel heavy, hard to rinse, or underwhelming.

I have tried a few products from this brand and for a "drug store" haircare brand i think they do a pretty decent range of hair care products. I recently used the Clarifying Shampoo which was nice. Not as good as my Ouai detox shampoo but it is more affordable. A good option if you have oily roots.

I do like this mousse and the way it leaves my hair looking. I don't love the smell or the way it feels in my hair. I could maybe use less product and see if that helps. I do like the way it looks though.

This was a miss for me. Although my hair felt clean, my scalp felt weird. There seemed to be a bit of tightness to it, and I can’t really tell if maybe the product was actually drying my scalp. My hair felt softer but it did seem frizzy (I have straight thin hair, so frizz is usually never a problem for me). I did notice a lot more flyaways, and I couldn’t figure out why, but based on some other reviews I now wonder if maybe the product was causing some breakage in my hair as well. I’ve stopped using the product and my scalp is starting to feel more normal. Will not finish the bottle, as I’m now suspicious if the product was the cause of the strange scalp sensation and hair breakage.

I have used and recommended the thickening spray from Kristin Ess. It holds up very well in my hair for at least 12 hours before reapply which I never have to do because it’s such a great product. Each bottle can last me over six months and gives my hair great volume. The clarifying shampoo and conditioner made me lose hair and so I will never purchase that product again, but this product has been great

Love love love the products!!! I’ve used several and my hair loves them all! The leave in conditioner spray is just lovely! My fine thin hair never feels coated or weighted. It looks shiny and healthy.

I love that I can get a quality brand like this at target. The smell is so great and there is a whole line of products for all types of hair. I've used multiple products by kristin ess and still have some more to try!

I received Kristin Ess shampoo and conditioner as a free sample. It was okay, nothing too memorable or exciting. It cleaned my hair just fine and their prices are reasonable but it wasn’t anything noticeable.

I was gifted Kristin Ess products, but I consistently repurchase because the hair products are that good. The texturizing spray is the perfect grittiness & doesn't make my hair feel dirty. Their shampoo & conditioner work great too, leaving my hair silky soft.

I have a few Kristin Ess items and I find them all to be pretty mediocre. It's an inexpensive line but there hasn't been an item that I've been truly impressed with yet. I did the hair glaze and found that it truly did nothing for my hair. I would avoid purchasing that. But then again, other people have had great results! It might depend on your hair texture.

For an accessible and affordable brand that you can purchase at Target/Walmart, they’re good! I’ve used the purple shampoo, clarifying shampoo, as well as fragrance free conditioner and various hairsprays. I love that a cruelty free brand. It’s a reliable option, but I find myself reaching for others to “mix it up” as the results are nothing “wow” worthy.

I think the conditioner from Kristin Ess is meant for people with curly or thicker hair. My hair has thin strands and I have a lot of them! The conditioner was fine when being rinsed out after a shower but it was too heavy as a leave-in product for my hair.

I believe the overall line is great but some products are hard to rinse out leaving my hair with that “clumpy” feeling like it’s not fully rinsed. The things I really like are the scents which are luxurious not “perfume” and the packaging looks great. I’ll keep trying different things in this line!

Kristin Ess Thickening Spray gives my hair that full, airy volume without feeling sticky or stiff. I spray it on damp roots before blow-drying, and it instantly adds lift and texture. It’s lightweight, smells amazing, and makes my hair look like I actually got a blowout, even when I didn’t try that hard. A go-to for effortless volume.

I’ll say this — their dry conditioner and dry shampoo are two holy grail items I’ll always have in my makeup closet! But, those are my only two faves. Their brunette dry shampoo made my hair feel ultra heavy, and their powder dry shampoo is far too light. Their regular dry shampoo is just right — light, absorbing and super clean feeling. I also have their hairspray, which honestly, is just OK. I’d rather reach for something more scented most of the time!

Their purple conditioner and shampoo and fantastic. My hair is blonde but it turns brassy quick! This works great for a quick color boost. I’ve also used their in shower treatments which really help my fine hair thrive. Worth the money and genuinely fair pricing.

I have curly hair and I’ve tried Kristin Ess in the past. Leaves a very beautiful smell, that may linger through the day. I can appreciate the ingredients as I like that it’s suitable for all hair types. I was always say give it a try and you decide what fits you best.

I’m a big fan of the air dry cream. I have curly hair but can’t stand a long blow dry, so the air dry cream is a great styling product for me. I also have used the toner for blonds, which is lovely and subtle.

I’ve been using this product for years after washing my hair, working it through my roots and letting it dry and it works amazing would recommend to anyone with thin flat hair.

The dry finish working texture spray is amazing to build instant volume while being ultralight hold and super soft! I use this texture spray each time I want to have those beautiful waves and curls while staying soft and matte! Hands-down this is one of the best affordable dry texturizing sprays!

I really like Kristin Ess hairspray. It has a nice smell to it and doesn't choke you when you put it on. It is easy to get out of your hair when you are shampooing it with Kristin Ess shampoo. I like to use both of these products. The hair spray holds without the helmet head feel. The shampoo is great for colored hair.
