Simple enough that my 4 year old niece taught me how to use. She has so much fun playing music and listening to stories and it helps the adults get a little bit of time to chat while she is entertained. There are so many options too.

Yoto makes an audio player for children aged 3-12+ to put them in control of their listening, learning and play.

Yoto earns strong reviews as a screen-free audio player that genuinely engages kids with durable cards, intuitive controls, solid sound, and a deep catalog of stories, music, podcasts, and sleep sounds. Reviews also flag drawbacks: content can feel limited in certain languages and franchises, card and catalog costs add up, some buttons and unlabeled knobs confuse first-time users, reliance on Wi‑Fi can glitch on travel, and playlist creation lacks modern integrations.

My daughter has had a yoto for going on two years and loves it. We get the most mileage out of super simple songs cards and the my first ballet songs. Also love tuning into the daily podcast! Great customer service.

I’ve got a three year old and a ten year old and both have really loved the yoto. I like the app and love that there’s bilingual content, it keeps them both really engaged and it’s great to have a helpful antidote to screen time. I’ve found the cards to be expensive to buy lots of but the app keeps us entertained with plenty of content, and it’s a really helpful thing to add to birthday gift suggestions.

We got the Yoto Player for our 4 year old son in December. It has been used every day since we got it. It travels with us for weekends away, longer trips to visit our family. Our son LOVES that he can control what story he is listening to, where he is starting from, skipping ahead to, and the volume. The dials are very user friendly, the battery life is great (I’ve had 1 instance in ~75 days where it died) and the app is great for parents (set max volume for day/night, alarm clock, etc).

Content: I wish there were more stories available in other languages. They have all the classics, but I wish there were even more disney/marvel/mainstream stories. Yoto has Frozen, all the Toy Stories, Finding Nemo etc, but it would be awesome to get more modern disney stories and more superhero things for our 4 year old. The stories are expensive, but for example, my son has listened to Finding Nemo at least 30 times, so it's about $.33 for over an hour of entertainment every time he listens to it and I should get even more value out of it assuming he doesn't decide he hates nemo (which is always a possibility with 4 year olds). Maybe they could implement a rental program like streaming services do? We bought Brave and my son hasn't listened to it once. Player: I wish the device was a bit smaller - we have the regular size one, but there is a mini so maybe that solves that problem.
