Public Goods earns mixed reviews: many praise the clean, minimalist design and effective basics—from ramen and dish soap to shampoo and stoneware—while recurring complaints target the mandatory $79 membership model and inconsistent quality (leaky refills, watery shampoos, weak candles). Reviews indicate the brand works for aesthetically cohesive, lightly scented, non-toxic essentials, but buyers wary of subscriptions, plastic in refills, occasional stockouts, and hit‑or‑miss formulas should proceed selectively.

Premium products that are much more affordable with a membership. Really like that most of their products are very lightly scented and look great in any room. I have severe allergic reaction to certain chemicals but none of their products have given me any trouble so far.

I like the stoneware and dinner collection, high-quality products.

I buy a lot of my basic home products from public goods. Love the simple packaging and being able to source from the same brand. The scents are mild too and I prefer them over most brands I can buy in store. Sometimes the packaging leaks in transit, that would be my only complaint. Seaweed snacks are also quite tasty!

I wanted to try out their products. Part of that process forces a $79 yearly membership (with trial). You can only cancel by emailing them, which is scummy already. This information is hard to find. You can't remove your credit card information while they're waiting to charge you for the subscription. You can't refuse the trail when ordering. The dishonesty of these practices makes me wish I hadn't ordered from them, regardless of the quality of their product.

I love that they're sustainable, so I bought a few items during a free membership trial. I love the containers' simple look for toiletries in my guest bath. However, I didn't find the quality justified the price, and especially not with an added membership cost. It was easy to cancel the membership during my trial period, I was never charged. I appreciated the hassle free cancellation. Sometime later I got an ad about discounted life time membership, so I joined and bought a few food items that were on "sale". Unfortunately, when they arrived most were very near the expiration date, one was past. Granted vinegar, oil, dry pasta, don't truly expire, but I felt deceived. It should have been made known before I ordered that it was clearance of old dated stock. They did refund the one item that was beyond the exp date, so again I was satisfied with the customer service. Customer service = good; quality = mediocre; price & selection = poor.

Really loved the appearance of these products. Clean, sleek, looked good on countertops and in shower. I loved how they had refill products. But they restarted my membership after I cancelled and continued charging my biannually

I purchased the shampoo and love it! I first used it while at an Airbnb and bought it as soon as I got home. It makes my hair feel so clean and lightweight. It has a faint natural smell and the consistency is thinner compared to other shampoos I've used; however, it lathers nicely!

Zero stars! What a horrible experience I have had with this company. 1 - You cannot purchase anything from them without being automatically signed up for the $79 per year “subscription”. Unless you want to pay that, DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY PAYMENT INFORMATION! 2. Read the descriptions very carefully! I wanted all glass spray bottles. Instead I got one glass spray bottles, and three plastic ones. All the plastic ones are damaged to some degree. 3. They told me I would receive a refund after sending them pictures of the damaged plastic bottles. Surprise - NO REFUND. I was actually going to purchase more glass bottles, but they will NEVER get my money again. There are a ton of companies that provide the same or superior products. Most have free shipping over a certain amount. The other companies all ship green or carbon-neutral. There are dozens that give back to the environment. Go for those and steer clear of this company!

Awful customer service support. Takes many days to get response and don’t even try their SMS text service (unresponsive). Email is your best bet within 2-4 days you may get some answers. I’m still waiting for my order and I’m only a free trial that ends tomorrow. Frustrated.

I had a membership back when PG first started out. This was back when they touted being "affordable for ALL," and considering their cheap packaging and ingredients, I was sold! It wasn't difficult to break down why they were so cheap because, as I said, their ingredients were some of the cheapest things on the market and they weren't from some boutique distributor. It was WORTH it back then. Now? It's at least 6x more expensive on all of their items AND it's not because they got better packaging or ingredients. The packaging is bland, no graphic designs, kind of like a hipster MRE package (because it's all in aestheticly pleasing black and white or "natural"-looking tan) so the costs should STILL be low. I understand inflation, I understand sustainability being a bit more costly (is it though...?) but when it's THAT much more compared to grocery shopping? Yeah, NO. Also, their "sustainable" laundry detergent is considerably more expensive than detergents from the store, but they've made you pay extra for the ~warm fuzzies~ you get THINKING you're "sAViNg mOtHeR gAia," but it's literally just podded laundry powder...... Which is NOT eco-friendly. Save yourself the time and money. Being able to afford "sustainable" items is just for people with a lot of money, or people who would rather be broke. I kind of can't wait for this sham site to go under.

I initially ordered just the ramen. I liked it, so I ordered other items the next time, strawberry jam, pesto, coffee, and more ramen. The ramen is good, but the other item were just a little less than good. The pricing is not really that great for requiring a membership. SO, I decided to but elsewhere. The membership is pricey. I would have ordered mor things if I had just been able to pay shipping, but to require a membership? It's not that good folks.

Not requiring a membership would have had me ordering more, but between the high pricing and a membership fee, no thanks. Take a lesson from Amazon, they don't require anyone to be a member.

Predatory company. They charged me for an annual membership even after I deleted my account (and could no longer access their portal) and then when I contacted them about it they refused to reimburse.

Very put off by the $79 price of membership. I can get all of these products at either my local organic market or online. Can't understand the appeal, frankly.

Only made an account to write this review. Terrible service. Bought one thing from their website a year ago and was hit with a membership fee today. Don’t waste your time, they just want to secretly take your money.

I tried Public Goods cleaning and personal care items and now I can't live without them! I have even given an assortment of goods to two different friends as they each moved into their new homes. The cleaning products are the perfect housewarming gifts - elevated essentials that are needed on that hectic first day in your new home. The sleek clean packaging is a much-needed break from the mundane store brands and the refills make life so much easier when you're down to your last drops. Must buys: hand soap, dish soap [heavenly spa-like lights scents], and, sleeper hit, the tampons.

Both soap refills are frequently out of stock so signing up for the waitlist is necessary.

I’ve been communicating through email trying to place an order but the system is asking me to renew my account for $79. Lol. Email support seems to be a bot or auto reply. Regardless it has not been a good experience.

See above. It has not been a good experience!!!

I really like the concept behind Public Goods and signed up for a trial subscription once I saw an item I wanted to purchase. I ordered a pack of wooden spoons for my kitchen and was disappointed with the quality. I still think the brand is cool, but didn't have a reason to keep my subscription.

I tried a few different cards and they wouldn't let me check out on a sub $10 purchase. Might be scammy, I'll be watching my card activity for a while.

Beautiful, simple packaging that gives you a sense of calm. Tried their natural deodorant and loved that it came in a biodegradable paper packaging.

I think the quantity for the cost could be improved but loved it regardless.
