Reviews mention

  • Minimalist aesthetic packaging
  • Lightly scented personal-care essentials
  • Reliable cleaning product performance
  • Comfortable, ergonomic wooden utensils
  • Controversial mandatory membership model
  • Inconsistent product quality control
  • Watery shampoo and thin formulas
  • Weak candle scent longevity

Public Goods earns mixed reviews: many praise the clean, minimalist design and effective basics—from ramen and dish soap to shampoo and stoneware—while recurring complaints target the mandatory $79 membership model and inconsistent quality (leaky refills, watery shampoos, weak candles). Reviews indicate the brand works for aesthetically cohesive, lightly scented, non-toxic essentials, but buyers wary of subscriptions, plastic in refills, occasional stockouts, and hit‑or‑miss formulas should proceed selectively.

  • Have tried multiple products from public goods: personal care, ramen, cleaning products. All were high quality, great scents/flavors, and high quality.

Membership pricing plus $49 minimum order for free shipping seems expensive.

  • I told them I was not interested in a $79 a year membership as I was just making my first purchase and hadn’t even received the items to decide if I wanted to. They responded, acknowledged that they received my email and my decision to not sign up for a membership, but still charged me the $79.

I have placed two orders and I was pleased with the products, though, I found some prices too high. This would make no mist likely, not sign up for a membership, I don’t order food enough for it to save me money. As I mentioned above, I told them I didn’t want a membership, they replied, they knew this, but still took $79 out of my bank account. I’m still waiting for their response to my email reminding them I don’t want a membership and to please refund my money asap. I’m hoping this is a honest company and this transaction will happen immediately

  • I ordered some items from Public Goods, which I liked. But then they billed me for a "recurring payment" of $79 for the next couple of months. I had to stop payment and get a new credit card. This company is either a scam, or incredibly inept with money.

  • I love the whole idea of Public Goods! The minimal packaging and basic design allow for cheaper products without having to cut corners! I tried their Chai concentrate, a candle, and the hair oil. The Chai was fabulous and I will definitely repurchase it while the candle seemed to burn too quickly. I have begun using the hair oil religiously and have recommended some friends and coworkers to checkout Public Goods

Possibly reformulating candles or using a different wax so they don't burn as fast.

  • Super eclectic in what they choose to carry, Public Goods items are hit and miss, though mostly hits. In my household, we are big fans of the precooked rice pouches, bamboo toothbrushes, KN95 face masks, and a few other items. The bamboo-based tissues are a bit rough, so I won't buy those again. I don't love the smell of the hand lotion or the plastic packaging. If you find items you like, then Public Goods is a great provider.

Would love to see the company move away from items that come in plastic packaging.
