Better Brand earns mixed reviews: the high-protein, low‑carb bagels and buns satisfy cravings and keep many buyers full, but texture and flavor divide opinion. • I was dubious of these, but I have to say they are DELICIOUS. A lot of health-ified foods fall short in my experience, but these did not! They are a bit chewier than your average bagel but very enjoyable nonetheless.

    Feedback

They are pricy, so that is certainly a consideration. Great once in a while!

  • Definitely has a bit of a spongier different texture than a "normal" bagel but is a great source of protein and still tastes great!

  • Low carb, high protein bread. That is usually not a good combination. I like the idea of healthy bagels, and I wanted to like these, but they are dense and chewy. If you're really bent on eating low carb, then I would definitely try these bagels. However, if the majority of food you eat is low carb, I think you can afford to eat regular bagels.

    Feedback

There's not much that can be done.

  • Although I was really hyped up to try these, I am disappointed. The texture is very spongey and you have to toast the bagel to make it edible. I've been putting peanut butter on it to get through the taste, which I can't pinpoint but it's off. I do like that it is plant based. It doesn't come sliced, which is really inconvenient and could be dangerous trying to slice the spongey bread.

The messaging and branding is super misleading, in my opinion. Better Brand uses the term "net carb" and markets themselves as low net carb. I had never seen the term net carb before, which is total carbs less dietary fiber (although there is no formal agreed upon definition). The problem here is that food manufacturers, not RDs or those qualified or registered in the medical/wellness field, came up with this term to help with their branding and marketing. There are actually 22g of carbohydrates in the bagel itself, with 5g of "net carbs." Also, comparing the net carb content to something as obsolete as two banana slices is silly to me.

  • The bagels are so good, have the perfect density and taste great if toasted. The only thing that I struggle with is the price, so it's more of an occasional treat for me

  • Innovative product.

These surprised me a bit by how much they tasted like a real bagel. The texture is slightly more dense and chewy than a regular bagel, but as long as you eat it hot it is very enjoyable. They are not something I find myself reaching for each day, but are a nice weekend or post-workout treat. I love the high protein content.

  • As a NYer I knew this would be a shot in the dark. I think the idea is incredible but the product still needs a lot of development. The bagel itself tastes somehow chewy and sandy, feels like the worst parts of the bagel and none of the good parts. It definitely tastes better very toasted and preparing it scooby-doo sandwich style, but at that point I'd rather just get something thinner.

  • Bagels are ok. Nice chewy texture but taste overall is definitely not comparable to a regular bagel

  • Ingredients in this are the best part

    Feedback

It has a weird chewiness that taste pretty artificial but if you toast it A LOT you can't tell

  • It is not going to be a normal bagel. But for my current goals the macro and calories are on point and it is a good vehicle for cream cheese. Adjust your expectations. It’s more than I want to pay but until another cheaper sub comes along I would purchase again. Update: I had a very hard time finishing the bag. It’s not that good.

  • This is quite the valiant attempt, but it’s just not there yet. It’s a really unpleasant spongy texture that emphasizes the high protein content (think unflavored whey or pea protein flavor). It like it best sliced up and toasted as bagel chips with some butter and cream cheese.

    Feedback

The texture probably needs the most work. I’d be willing to sacrifice some of the protein for a less spongy product. I think that would help with the flavor too.

  • I was skeptical of this concept at first, but actually found it to be better than expected. The keep frozen part is confusing, but as long as you know you plan to eat it and leave it out to defrost for a bit, it is manageable. Most impressed by the ingredients, quality, and nutrition. A bit pricey for a bagel, but definitely worth trying!

Pre-slice the bagels & offer more flavors

  • For a couple decades I ate two bagels a day--no kidding. A few years ago I moved away from this daily carb overload, to take in less gluten and more protein. So, I am no longer in the habit of eating bagels. But I KNOW this delightful baked good all too well. Comparing Better Brand to a regular bagel is not really fair as it is a nutritional powerhouse compared to a fairly empty traditional product. So that's my framework but I also could not give a five because I would expect a miraculous product that closely resembles a "real" bagel before I could give this score. (I wish I could give a 4.5 because the attempt and result here is really valiant.) As the other reviewers noted, it toasts well to develop a decent crunchy surface. The inner bread remains spongy. But the overall balance of better nutrition and OK eating experience works well for me. I am placing a bigger second order.

PLEASE pre-slice so I don't have to carefully monitor the microwave time post-freezing and risk more cuts to my hands when I navigate the overly-soft bagel slicing.

  • Texture is great after it’s toasted. Reminded me of a regular frozen bagel. Taste is a little bland, definitely needed cream cheese. The nutritional values are great. So overall for a low carb, high protein bagel it’s a good product. But if you aren’t used to that much fiber it can be uncomfortable for the first few days. I recommend eating just half a bagel until your body adjusts to the fiber.

  • love the macros (high protein, low calorie), but the bagels are so pricey I can't justify it as a consistent buy. the bagels also have to be frozen and are super dense/dry, so you really have to load up on whatever toppings you're using. overall, I love the idea of it but the product just needs a bit more tweaking!

  • Purchased the cinnamon flavor @ whole foods, and for the price, this was really disappointing. I recognize the concept of these is meant to be low carb, low sugar ingredients, but this truly tasted so bland and the texture was off- I threw the rest of them out. Not even cream cheese and/or butter could salvage these. Hard pass

  • I bought these at Whole Foods and toasted them in my toaster oven. They had the grossest consistency. I couldn't even finish one of them and threw the rest out. Totally not worth it for the macros. Even thinking about the taste now is making my stomach uneasy.

They taste horrible. They also did not come pre-sliced which was a pain since they were frozen.

  • Clean ingredients, still tastes like any other bagels but with cleaner ingredients, more protein and it's low carb! Ever since i've gone keto I miss eating bagels and needless to say this one just works so perfectly for me!

  • Eat it toasted and it’s the best “healthier” bagel on the market. Just like the others say, don’t eat it untoasted since it’s chewy and emits an interesting oil. Love the protein and fiber content in these!
