I really wanted to like this product. Like others out there, I love the concept and idea behind it. But the product itself was a let down. First, it tells you to eat or freeze upon receipt. But what was not said - can I keep some out for a day or two? Will it go bad immediately? Unclear. I froze one 4 pack and kept the other out. I like my bagels sliced and toasted. These bagels weren't sliced, so that was an immediate issue (a little annoying, not a dealbreaker, although inconvenient for my now-frozen bagels). I lightly toasted my first bagel and the texture was a bit too chewy for my liking. I tried toasting the next ones more, but it didn't help. The texture is just...off. As someone who has been on an extremely limited diet, I get that options can be limited, so this may be the bagel for some people. We're at a point where "better for you" products can do a pretty good job of mimicking what they're the alternative for, so I think people will expect more from these bagels. Packaging and branding were nice, shipping was fast. Now maybe it's time to focus on improving the product?

It would be nice if the bagels were sliced. Texture could use improvement.

I was really hoping to love this. A bagel that is better for you and still very tasty sounds amazing! However, this product did not live up to my expectations. Now the packaging and design of everything is super sleek and pretty. But it is perhaps a bit misleading since the image of the bagel on the outside of the packaging looks very different than what I actually got. I honestly think the look of the bagels I got were nice- it reminds me of what they looked like in New York (they have amazing bagels over there) when I went. So I wouldn't have minded if the packaging looked like what I got, but I would have preferred some consistency either way. And when it comes to the taste and texture, it was very disappointing. I tried one fresh and I did not like it. And later I tried one toasted and that wasn't much better either. Sadly I could not call this a better bagel, as I would still much rather get a fresh bagel from a shop than this. Perhaps those that aren't as critical about taste and texture (and deeply care about their health) would like this, but otherwise, I cannot recommend it to anyone.

Feedback

As many others have said, I think it would definitely help to have the bagels pre-sliced, as the package says they need to either be eaten right away or frozen. And from what I have heard, it is best to have bagels that are already sliced before freezing them so you don't have to cut a frozen bagel. But of course, the most important thing to me is the taste, so there needs to be a focus on improving the taste of the product so people would pick that over this one.

While the packaging and branding is sleek, the product itself does not measure up to its potential. The "bagel" has the texture of potato bread, with only the outside crisping up in the toaster. My family did not enjoy these-- if you're going to call it a bagel, it's gotta be a bagel.

Some products are meant to be healthified. Others are not. At least, not if Better Brand is doing it. I'm sorry, I really wanted to like this product, but... save your money and enjoy a real bagel. Carbs won't kill you. I was excited when the delivery came, as the packaging was sleek and delightful. I felt like a proper social media influencer while opening it. The excitement stopped there. When I actually opened one of the bagel bags in my package, bagels I did not see. Instead, I saw hole-less bread rolls. Seriously -- see the included image. I noticed the instructions on the packaging recommended toasting the bagels for best flavor and texture, but I figured I would first sneak a bite untoasted. The way I tore off a corner of the dense, spongey material was anything but sneaky, though -- I really had to muscle it. Upon popping the bite into my mouth, the flavor and texture hit me instantly. Neither bore any semblance to what I have experienced with every other bagel I've eaten in the past. I was tempted to toss all eight bagels into the trash right then and there, but I stopped and reminded myself of the virtues of giving second chances. I grabbed a bread knife, muscled through the (notably unsliced) bread roll, and popped the halves into my toaster. A few minutes and a slather of butter later, I ventured to take my next bite. I braced myself for the worst, and it was... better! (But what *isn't* made better by butter?) Still, though -- it was nothing near something I would actively enjoy eating. To finish the remainder of the bagel, I doctored it up with ricotta, mozzarella, pesto, spinach and prosciutto -- some real heavy hitter toppings. It was, naturally, much better -- but still, not because of the bagel itself. The next day, I gave it another shot -- this time toasted and with PB&J. The experience was the same: The condiments carried all the weight, and the bagel did nothing but drag them down. Finally, let's talk about price. I bought these bagels with a hefty ThingTesting discount code, but the unit price still came out to about two bucks a pop. Without a discount code, this pricing would be obscene. Please spend your money elsewhere -- or at least wait until Better Brand's products get, well, better.

Taste, texture, shape. But mostly, taste and texture.

Although I was really hyped up to try these, I am disappointed. The texture is very spongey and you have to toast the bagel to make it edible. I've been putting peanut butter on it to get through the taste, which I can't pinpoint but it's off. I do like that it is plant based. It doesn't come sliced, which is really inconvenient and could be dangerous trying to slice the spongey bread.

Feedback

The messaging and branding is super misleading, in my opinion. Better Brand uses the term "net carb" and markets themselves as low net carb. I had never seen the term net carb before, which is total carbs less dietary fiber (although there is no formal agreed upon definition). The problem here is that food manufacturers, not RDs or those qualified or registered in the medical/wellness field, came up with this term to help with their branding and marketing. There are actually 22g of carbohydrates in the bagel itself, with 5g of "net carbs." Also, comparing the net carb content to something as obsolete as two banana slices is silly to me.

Good unboxing experience and fast shipping. The actual bagels however, were underwhelming. I toasted them per the instructions but the texture was still very unpleasant. It starts out spongey, and then the more you chew it becomes chalky.

Feedback

I support the founder's overall mission to create a healthy alternative to traditional bagels, BUT I was super bummed and put off by the fatphobic messaging ("eat freely without the fear of weight gain") on the insert included in the box. Something they should really consider rewriting. Image attached for reference.

The unboxing was very impressive and made the experience feel very cool and special. I appreciated the instructions too since I would normally *never* toast a bagel but in this instance it did elevate the texture of the bagel. If I closed my eyes and someone gave me this bagel I would think it was a normal bagel. It's spongy and has a good flavor even without the cream cheese. Overall it's very tasty. If you go looking for differences between this bagel and another bagel, however, you will find them. People say the texture is a bit bready and I get that but I don't think it harms the overall experience of the bagel. If you really focus in on the flavor it tastes a bit protein-y too and is maybe a bit chewier than other bagels. But since it's supposed to be healthier that's not a big deal for me.

Feedback

I don't really have too many qualms with the flavor but I think the bagels could look a bit more like a bagel, they are round but some lack the central holes. My main feedback is that in the future streamlining how they're shipped would be ideal. If this was something I ordered regularly I wouldn't need a grand unboxing and would probably want the bagels shipped in a tube of shorts versus a pouch. I'd love more formats of this technology in various bread products in the future!

Happy with resealable bags and packaging design. Bagels toasted retained just a bit too much chew and slightly "gummy" consistency. Was still pleasurable to eat with a proper shmear.

Feedback

Ease to achieve desirable toasted consistency. More flavors perhaps.

The branding and intention of the brand was really exciting to me. Visually appealing and fun play on being health conscious. That being said, the taste of the bagels was disappointing, as well as the texture. It has to be toasted in order to taste ok - it’s really just a vessel for cream cheese or spread and I wanted it to be more than that. I’m not sure that the price to value is here.

Feedback

This might be counterintuitive but even though the packaging is visually appealing It makes It feel mass produced/processed and the bagel looks like that. Perhaps consider playing up the fact that this might not be the case. Also if the product is really best when toasted maybe It would be better to pre-slice and freeze if shipping to certain areas that can’t eat straight away.
