Sun Bum earns praise in reviews for effective, reliable sun protection—from SPF 30 to SPF 70 body and face formulas, scalp sunscreen, and zinc options—with beachy coconut/banana scents and easy application across sprays, lotions, sticks, and roll-ons. However, reviewers flag greasy or oily feel in certain sprays, occasional eye sting and transfer, strong fragrance that irritates some and causes lip balm issues, and sporadic reactions on sensitive skin or with mineral blending challenges.

  • I've tried a bunch of different products from this brand including the hairspray which smells like bananas but didn't really do much for me but I'm new to the whole hair game with thin straight hair that is not colored the SPF on the other hand for the face and body I find to be fabulous it doesn't sting my eyes my sensitive combo skin doesn't get clogged or have any reaction I can put a face and body and everywhere and there's an SPF 70 and a huge size so one and done more than enough for the whole family - that being said the formulas typically very thick and white on squeeze out but rubs in with no white cast not thick like toothpaste but not quite a regular lotion either closer to the lotion I guess. Personally I like the smell and I'm sensitive to some fragrances. I haven't tried the mineral options yet but everything I've tried from the brand that's SPF I have liked and I haven't gotten any sunburns.

  • I realli like Sun Bum. I have very senstivive skin, and I am always looking for a good sun protection that will make sure I don't get nasty sunburns. I tried the Sun Bum SPF70 cream and it was a game changer to me. It is a little thick on the skin, but it is normal considering how high the protection index is. I like the smell and how it lingers on the skin for hours, and my skin likes it too! I suggested it to my brother (who is even paler than me and gets bad sunburns easily as well) and he loved it too! Very recommended

  • Sun Bum makes great sunscreen for various needs. The packaging is fun, and the product works well in helping protect from the sun. They have a large range of SPF levels to meet many needs, which is not always the case with sunscreen companies, so I appreciate that.

  • Love Sunbum for my kids. Great non-toxic sunscreen without harsh chemicals or the dreaded white coating. Easy to use, soaks in, keeps skin moisturized, and sun safe. I don't like the clear water resistant one because it pulls up, the other products are fantastic.

  • I think the Sun Bum Cool Down lotion is effective and has a nice scent, but next time I'd choose a generic drugstore aloe lotion that costs less. The leave-in hair product has the same nice beachy scent and seems to help a bit with taming frizz while airdrying my hair, but it's not a game-changer.

  • Overall I love Sun Bum sunscreen products. They smell great and work great too. The lip sunscreen is nice but it does taste like sunscreen but if you’re having a day in the sun it will save your lips. The whole brand smells great and works good. Ive ventured off to their skin care now too.

  • My absolute favorite brand of tanning oil! The price is steep but I like that they use more natural oils. I have been using the tanning oil for years. I have sensitive skin and it has never irritated me.

  • Sun Bum offers great sunscreen products that are easy to apply and smell amazing. The formula is lightweight and doesn’t leave a greasy residue, providing good protection. The only downside is that it’s a bit pricey, but the quality makes it worth the splurge.

  • Overall, I love Sun Bum as a grab-and-go sunscreen option. Are there higher quality sunscreens I would suggest? Yes- But I love having Sun Bum in my bags for quick trips to the park or some volleyball. I recently purchased the Coconut Organ Oil for my flyaways as well and have loved the quality and results of the oil on my hair during the summer months as well. The scent is fresh and light and their packaging is quality!

  • I used to love this brand when I was younger, but as I've gotten older I've seen the ingredients are not as clean as they claim. Their lip balm also burns my lips and their sun cream makes my neck and chest super itchy and red for days after using.

  • Five stars for adults and non sensitive skin kids. We brought this sunscreen on a recent trip and left our SunBum Kids at home. I figured our kids were old enough to use the regular formula. Unfortunately, after just one use, my youngest broke out in severe hives all over her back, neck, shoulders, and arms. She’s never had an allergic reaction before, so it was scary. Thankfully, a children’s antihistamine medication cleared it up within 30 minutes. So, parents beware. If your child has sensitive skin, patch test first before applying it all over. That said, the rest of us had no issues. It worked great, offered solid protection, and smells amazing.

  • Yes, Sun Bum Premium Moisturising Sunscreen SPF 50 will prevent sunburn. But at what cost? Using this stuff feels like you’re spraying yourself with pure grease. Your skin stays slick and greasy for hours, and you’ll leave an oily trail on anything you touch. The real nightmare begins if you get even a tiny mist of it in your eye. Forget splashing water — it’s so greasy that water just spreads the sting around. You need something that cuts through the grease and then stand under the shower blinking furiously. Eyes will sting for days.

  • My go-to sunscreen brand! I love the packaging, it’s so classic, and the nostalgic smell of their products. They are the very essence of beachy!

  • Their zinc based sunscreens work well. Like most zinc based sunscreens the don’t blend in very well.

  • Love the scalp sunscreen. I ALWAYS get sunburnt on my scalp where my part is and this product SAVES ME!! I got it for my dad to apply to his bald spot and he always enjoys it. It’s so easy to apply and pack in your bag. My dad throws his in his golf bag! I was hoping that I’d like the SPF chapstick more but it has a weird after taste so I no longer use it.

  • Only brand that I buy for my family since it is free of harsh chemicals and good quality. I feel like it’s OK as a base before putting on make up and not too sticky. it’s nice to see that it is on sale at target and Amazon often.

  • I have tried body sunscreen and I love itt. It doesn't feel sticky when applied and absorbs very quickly.

  • From roll on to spray to stick form, I haven't found a Sun Bum product that I didn't like. The SPF 70 spray and SPF 45 face spray are by my front door so I don't leave the house without either spraying them on first or taking them with me if it's a longer outdoor outing. They also smell really good, kind of like a banana coconut smoothie.

  • Sun Bum is a local company to me and it has been awesome to see them grow over the years. They now have awesome products in every industry which is awesome! I also get to hear stories from friends that work there about their amazing chemical processes and quality controlling.

  • Favorite sunblock for the past few years. I use their scented sunblock during the summer months and obsessed with the scent tbh. Summer in a bottle.
