OLAPLEX reviews and discussion

Reviews mention

  • Noticeable bond-repair performance
  • Shine-boosting lightweight oil
  • Salon-fresh purple toning
  • Frizz-smoothing leave-in cream
  • Potential drying shampoo effects
  • Heavy, greasy feel on fine hair
  • Short-lived treatment results
  • Strong pigment staining risk

OLAPLEX earns polarized reviews: many report visibly stronger, smoother, shinier hair—especially with No.3 Hair Perfector, No.6 Bond Smoother, No.7 Bonding Oil, and the 4P Purple Shampoo—while others experience dryness, heaviness, greasiness, or no lasting improvement. Reviews suggest it can work brilliantly for bleached/blonde or damaged hair but may weigh down fine hair and effects may fade without consistent use; some users also mention fragrance concerns and allegations of hair loss or irritation.

  • Loved this! Also used their products when going blonde and it helped me look so good! My hair felt as healthy as it could when bleached thanks to olaplex. Worth the price!

  • Always get this while having my hair dyed. Perfection. The at-home products are nice too.

  • I don’t feel like this did anything for my hair, especially since it is so expensive.

  • It is a great product, but very overpriced for what it is. The sizes are not big enough.

  • I've tried several of their products and I think it can be hit and miss. For the No. 3 I loved it! I bleached my hair 2 times from a dark brown to blonde basically and this saved my hair. I noticed I would have less fall out and breakage and my hair wouldn't be as frizzy. Even though the bottle is so small, you only need a tiny amount and I focused mostly on the ends of my hair so the bottle still lasted me a long time.

A product I didn't like was No. 0. I'm not sure if this even made a significant difference as opposed to just the No. 3. I had such a hard time with this product because of the spray nozzle that I stopped using this entirely. It is a very powerful spray in a straight line, so it was super messy and I felt like the product wasn't even on my hair.

  • As a curly girl with very dry, very frizzy hair, the No3 hair perfector has been a GAME CHANGER. As a nighttime hair treatment, my curls are extra soft and bouncy in the days afterwards and I SWEAR it seals split ends/broken bits. Love this.

I wish the price point was a little lower or the packaging was a little larger for those of us who need to use more of it more often!

  • The No. 3 is wonderful, No. 7 is a bit heavy for those of us with fine hair. No. 3 once or twice a week definitely left me with results that I don't see from other masques. The smell is nice and nothing overpowering.

I think using the whole system may be going a bit overboard, especially after speaking with my stylist. Depending on the effects you're looking for, cherry-picking certain ones will give you just as many or even more results than using the whole lineup. For the price, I'd start testing one at a time.

  • The hair mask is AMAZING!!! It leaves my hair incredibly soft and fixes my split ends.

    Feedback

Very pricey, but lasts for at least 6 weeks.

  • A little goes a long way! I have been loving the No. 6 and 7 products for hair styling. The shampoo and conditioner make my hair soft and manageable but it feels weighed down within a day of hair wash.

  • I've used Olaplex off and on throughout the years and can truly say it's one of the best haircare systems in the market. I color my hair quite often and when I made the jump to go platinum blonde, their shampoo and conditioner were my saving grace. Their products bring life back into damaged hair and I like that they don't contain any heavy fragrances.

I wish I could buy in bulk!

  • Really enjoyed using No. 3 and consider it to be a part of my regular hair care routine. Would recommend No.3 to friends and family. I find that it has really improved my hair and has made it look less damaged.

  • Really wanted to love Olaplex products because I have heard so much but the Shampoo and Conditioner did nothing for my hair - especially the conditioner which left my hair feeling really stringy and filmy. The products do smell incredible though!

  • I sed the entire line for a few months and my hair got very brittle and thin. Felt silky though

    Feedback

I don't think this product is right for my thin hair.

  • While it did help a bit with my color treated hair, I don't think that the price is worth the product. It's good and I use the bonding oil before and after a blow-dry., though it doesn't make enough of a difference to justify the price.

    more product, sustainable packaging, price

  • Love Olaplex and used for many years! Your stylist has to use Olaplex products when you are getting your hair colored for the products to work 100%. For many years I had a stylist use it during my coloring and I was obsessed with the washes Olaplex gave me at home! For a color maintaining shampoo, the foaming was incredible! I also love that there is no (or very little) scent with the line - personal preference.

    Feedback

When you don't have your hair colored with Olaplex, the products don't work as well.

  • Products work well enough, but unfortunately they use some toxic ingredients in them.

  • Olaplex is a great brand and has been really effective on my hair. It's expensive but definitely worth the money, and each bottle lasts me a long time because I don't have to use a lot of product each time.

  • I love olaplex! I've been highlighting my hair for over 10 years and it has gone through a lot of poor hair treatment. My hair stylist recommended olaplex to me 6 months ago and I have been using the shampoo and conditioner ever since. I've seen a huge difference in shine, less split ends, and it feels thicker and softer. Honestly worth money.

    Feedback

I wish it was less expensive or they had more sales.

  • BLONDES – DON'T SLEEP ON OLAPLEX. It's pricey, but with this you get what you pay for. Can't speak to the ACTUAL health of my hair with all the damage I've done, but it feels and appears to be in better hands whenever I remember to use Olaplex.
