Ok, these dried fruits and nuts are a revelation. I just received the Ziba variety box in the mail and couldn't wait to write about it. The box included nine different varieties of dried fruits, nuts, and mixes sourced from Afghanistan. According to Ziba's website, their products are either foraged or heirloom varieties cultivated by small family farms -- and you can really see and taste the difference. I was most surprised by the raw heirloom almonds. Almonds are not my favorite nuts; normally I find them dense and flavorless, and I wouldn't go near a plain one if you paid me. Ziba's raw almonds are light, crisp, and sweet, just a world of difference in terms of texture and flavor. Amazing. I also loved the (totally new to me) dry roasted and salted apricot kernels and the delicious, clearly foraged kishmish raisins, all different shapes and sizes and naturally sweet. Also included and also yummy (my boyfriend and I had to open and try every. single. bag. immediately upon receipt) were baby pistachio kernels, very surprising and tasty dried mulberries (which kind of remind me, visually, of dried morel mushrooms but taste like crunchy honey clusters - so good), sun-dried figs, and two bags of mixed fruits and nuts. I seriously enjoyed everything I tried, and love the brand's mission to prioritize sustainability, work directly with small farmers in Afghanistan, create jobs for Afghan women, and bring these amazing heirloom fruits and nuts to the rest of the world. As a bonus, their packaging is so pretty! Just an excellent experience overall.

Amazing. Possibly my favorite recent discovery. I gifted myself a three-pack of the cookie dough, strawberry shortcake, and brownie batter flavors over the holidays, and loved each one. I've read some reviews that object to the texture, but it really works for me; it's creamy but also grainy, like a pulverized cookie paste. And that's exactly what these taste like--pulverized cookies! I confess didn't spread these on anything, I just ate spoonfuls right out of the containers. The cookie dough flavor tasted, to me, like rich, buttery graham crackers. The strawberry shortcake was a variation on that theme, with maybe just a hint of freeze-dried strawberries and another hint of cream. The brownie batter was outstanding, like a chocolate cookie butter with an abundance of teeny chocolate chips. All three were wildly delicious and tasted super natural, like I'd whipped them up in a food processor in my kitchen (but maybe with the help of a gifted chef). I can't recommend enough and will probably be placing another order after I finish writing this review.

    Feedback

The cookie dough flavor in particular needed some stirring to mix in the oil, kind of like a natural peanut butter. Nbd. If they added those tiny chocolate chips from the brownie batter flavor into this one, it would be stellar. I stored my jars in the fridge to keep them super fresh, and took them out maybe 20 or 30 minutes before snacking so they'd get creamy. The website design is really fun, and their gifts with purchase are generous and very cute, especially the little gold spoon. I also love the company's mission and their emphasis on minimal, natural ingredients. Just a superlative product overall.

    Churn Butter

I recently ordered a sampler of Churn's delicious compound butters. They come in a range of interesting and versatile flavors, from truffle (my favorite) to miso to their single sweet offering, maple cinnamon. Churn makes European-style butter, which is especially rich, creamy, and flavorful, and I love that they only use grass-fed milk. You can absolutely taste the difference. So far, I've made one heck of a gourmet grilled cheese using the truffle butter, elevated my morning scrambled eggs with garlic and shallot butter, and managed the easiest, tastiest cacio e pepe spaghetti with (what else?) the cacio e pepe butter and some Parmesan. I have yet to cook with the pesto and miso butters, but I've tasted both and can confirm that they are basically good enough to eat right out of the container. Highly, highly recommended.

    Feedback

Honestly, the only drawbacks for me are availability and price. For now, it looks like you can only buy Churn in-store in California and Texas, so for the rest of us that means ordering online. The Churn website is well-designed and user-friendly, so ordering is super easy, but unless you spend $50 or take advantage of a holiday promo code, like I did, shipping will run you $10. The 5.5 fl oz tubs aren't super cheap, but for the quality, convenience, and experience (delicious compound butters you don't need to make yourself! what!), I think the price point is totally reasonable. These butters are real kitchen workhorses that will also totally elevate your home cooking. Easy, attainable, delicious everyday indulgences.

I don't remember where I first discovered this chocolate, but it was a revelation. And unfortunately for me, it was not widely available in the US at the time! Luckily now they're all over Whole Foods, which is dangerous for me but also super convenient. Not only are the many varieties of Tony's Chocolonely chocolate bars innovative (pop rocks! pretzels!) and delicious, but they only work with ethical, slave-free cocoa producers. Also, their packaging is not only super fun, but made from recycled materials. An all-around awesome chocolate-consuming experience! :)

The milk caramel cookie bar is TO DIE FOR. Also, you need to try the white chocolate raspberry pop rocks bar at least once--so good, so fun.

I've been loyal to this cheese snack for years and years, since I was a kid. There are a few flavor choices nowadays, but the classic edam cheese is still superior. I don't know what it is about the fun, tactile, work-for-your-food experience of tearing the little paper strip and removing the cheese from its little red Pac-Man wax container, but I swear it makes the cheese even tastier. I typically have a bag of these to snack on at home. A treasure!

Honestly, nothing about this cheese could be better. It is perfect just the way it is. Never change, mini Babybel! <3

A really delicious hummus that ALMOST tastes homemade. It comes in a good variety of flavors, but in my humble opinion the lemon dill is unmatched. The texture is super creamy, rich, and just slightly grainy--again, almost like homemade. This brand is far superior to other better-known mass-produced supermarket standbys. Recommended.

Delicious and widely available and super versatile. Great product.

What can I say, Glossier's branding and packaging got me. I first bought their products online without ever having sampled anything. Their makeup line is really fun--I'm especially a fan of their lidstar eyeshadow, which gets applied with a wand (like a lipgloss) and comes in pretty, very wearable colors. Also, their Wowder (loose setting powder) is AMAZING--a makeup mainstay for me, I genuinely don't use any other. Also love their balm dot com, which comes in adorable flavors (birthday is the my favorite) and is pretty moisturizing. And, I mean, the products just look great on your dresser!

    Feedback

Glossier's skincare products are just okay. They don't really do anything for my skin, and I haven't returned to them after trying their The Skincare Edit set. I'm 100% loyal to the Wowder and dabble in their "fun" makeup now and then--love the lidstars and the pencils and the cloud paints. Also! The Wowder powder brushes! Unmatched.

    West Elm

Gorgeous, high-quality furniture at generally excellent prices. A godsend for fans of midcentury modern. I mean, you can find amazing pieces at IKEA prices most of the time, and especially during their many sales. Furniture aside, they also have beautiful, tasteful home décor objects and gifts, like bookends and paperweights and home office storage, and even, more recently, plants! My local store had huge live fiddle-leaf figs a few weeks ago, with beautiful pots included.

What's not to like about West Elm? A mainstay in my life and home for years now.

I really wanted to love this deodorant. The biodegradable packaging is innovative and looks great and fun, the company's zero-waste mission is impressive and commendable, and the plant-based formulation is exactly what I was looking for since abandoning aluminum-based antiperspirants altogether. Unfortunately, neither the product nor the method for dispensing the product worked for me.

    Feedback

I ordered the desert lime, mandarin, and vanilla deodorant, which, scent-wise, was sort of a one-note pungent orange. Not awful, but I wouldn't buy it again. While the peel-away dispensing method is cool in theory, it turned out to be super messy--I got deodorant all over my fingers while peeling. The product itself is way less solid than I expected, and doesn't go on smoothly--it's more like a grainy paste. I had to smooth down the unevenly-distributed product with my hands, which defeats the purpose of having a dispensing method in the first place. Sadly, this is not for me.

    The Ordinary

The Ordinary doesn't make any sense. The no-nonsense (though chic) apothecary-style packaging totally belies the excellent quality product inside. Wow. The price point is nuts--$7 for a pretty generously-sized bottle of hyaluronic acid? Other brands charge upwards of $50! And the stuff actually works. I came to The Ordinary out of desperation, with dry skin and product-hopping fatigue, and a combination of the hyaluronic acid serum, the moisturizing cream, and the retinoid 2% product actually made an appreciable difference to my skin. My face was calmer, clearer, and PLUMP. Actually plump! Since moving to a colder, drier climate recently, I've had to add a different brand's ultra-moisturizing face cream, but I'm otherwise still loyal to this 3-step The Ordinary routine. Highly recommend.

    Feedback

Honestly, not much room for improvement here -- this brand is awesome. I do wish their product labels had a little more practical information listed. Like, wtf would I use the ethylated ascorbic acid for? And at what step should I layer which product? But this is a minor quibble.
