Byredo Reviews

Best of Thingtesting4.6

Byredo earns largely positive reviews for sophisticated, unisex fragrances like Gypsy Water, Bal d’Afrique, Mojave Ghost, and Rose of No Man’s Land, with chic minimalist packaging and, for many, all‑day wear. Reviews also flag inconsistency: some scents have weak projection or short longevity, certain items (lipstick, mascara, hair perfumes) disappoint, and a few finds smell overly powdery or sharp; still, the brand’s layered compositions and standout candles keep fans repurchasing.

  • I learned about Byredo while traveling in Copenhagen a few years ago. I got Blanche because the salesperson told me it would be a good “clean” scent like what I’d been smelling on everyone throughout the trip. Unfortunately, the scent has a bit of a sharp component that bothers my nose, and it doesn’t last very long. I also got a Gypsy Water roll-on and I like that scent, but it’s more for nighttime.

  • Surprisingly, I had not had much experience with the Byredo line up to now, despite having a fairly wide library of fragrances in my cabinet. This past holiday season, I decided to give the range a try and picked up their massive Discovery Set (LA GRANDE DÉCOUVERTE) with over 20 (2ml) bottles of their fragrances. With such an expansive selection, it's reasonable to expect that not every scent is going to be The One for you. The collection spans clean, skin-adjacent fragrances to darker, more expressive profiles, and the set gave me a much better sense of what actually works on me versus what I just admire conceptually. Overall, the set was hit-or-miss, with a few standouts, classics like Blanche and Bal D'Afrique. Additionally, the longevity profiles range from scent to scent, with some having fleeting staying power.

  • I ordered the Rose of No Man’s Land around the holidays; it smells like a memory of a garden. Very similar to the Baies but a fresher scent. It smells floral without being too sweet. I get compliments every time I wear it. Staying power is probably a 7/10, and deserves a touch up during the day but still lingers if you smell closely. Unrelated to the scent: you get to pick a few options for testers which are generously packed & I also got a tote bag that is very practical for the winter. Overall, it’s a luxe product I’ll be back for in the future! Pricey, but I guess everyone knows that

  • From my wife: I’ve never been a huge perfume person. There are a lot of scents that I don’t enjoy, and the wrong scent can give me a headache. There is a reason why Byredo, despite its very expensive price tag, is as popular as it is. I sampled both Mojave Ghost and Gypsy Water in store and sprayed them on my wrists so I could make a decision by the end of the day. They both smelled amazing, and I was impressed by the quality of the fragrances. Ultimately, I went with Mojave Ghost as it had longer staying power, and lasted a few more hours than Gypsy Water.. which is something I wanted given the price tag. Byredo’s packaging is clean and understated, and their perfumes are full-bodied and unique. If you’re able to make the splurge, the scents are beautiful.
