Away earns strong reviews for durable, lightweight polycarbonate and aluminum luggage that glides smoothly, packs efficiently with compression panels and a laundry bag, and is backed by responsive, often generous warranty service; however, reviews also flag easy exterior scuffing/dents, occasional zipper/handle/wheel issues, divisive or cumbersome battery compartments, and ubiquity that causes bag mix-ups. Overall, Away is good and works well for frequent travel, but buyers should expect cosmetic wear and consider darker colors or covers.

A good rimowa dupe but not as high quality. I like how light the bags are. The fabric bag (which doesnt look as good as the aluminium one) definitely has more longevity.

(Updated 2025) The coating on the handles for my two medium-sized suitcases started melting after Covid. I emailed customer service recently and even though my suitcases were bought almost 10 years ago, they replaced them immediately! They have upgraded the quality since and hopefully the handles won’t melt anymore. Decent quality for the price. I like their medium-size suitcase which is a great size between the hand-carry and the large. Great customer experience and very helpful.

Their handles don't do well under humidity and rubber turns sticky. However, upon mentioning the issue, their customer support immediately offered to replace the product. It's great that they come out with limited edition colours, but unfortunately those colours are usually not available in the hand-carry with pockets. Expand operations and shipping to Asia
I've had the Carry-On for a couple of years and it has held up really well. It has become a great piece to travel with. Might get the Bigger Carry-On in the future, as you do have to be selective when packing the smaller one.
I've had my Away suitcases (bigger carry-on and checked bag) for 6 years now and both have served me very well traveling 40+ weeks per year. The zipper and fabric piece around the zipper is finally starting to pull away from the case itself, but I'm pleasantly surprised that didn't happen earlier. My only complaint is that it's a big pricey for what it is. There are other companies making similar products using better materials for a lower price.

I've had my Away carry on since 2017 and it's perfect for traveling. My only problem is that i decided to get navy blue and now there are so many at the airport I have to TRIPLE CHECK that I have my bag and not someone else's. Not sure how they did it but I can fit so much more in my Away bag than I can in a similar sized carry on. This is especially impressive since it's a hard exterior. Price is expensive but absolutely worth it. My carry on has lasted my 5 years and it still feels like new - I can tell it'll last me another 5-10.
I've had my Away suitcase for more than four years at this point and I'm so pleased with how it's held up! The larger carry-on has traveled with me across the world and back and I've never had issues with the size, even on smaller domestic flights. I've never had any issues with the wheels, handle, or zipper, which is a miracle considering how much I overpack it.

The suitcases scuff really easy and show marks all over, which is unfortunate but not a deal-breaker. I was surprised at how quickly mine got beat up but it still looks good and functions well.
Have used since junior year of college and STILL LOVE IT!
As a gal who likes to travel, I was stoked about a female-founded travel brand. In full disclosure I do NOT own an Away suitcase, but I have traveled with one before and I genuinely don't think I would purchase one. For starters, they are everywhere! Honestly it's impressive but also a turn off for me. I don't want to see 20 of my suitcases on the luggage belt...god forbid you take the wrong one home. I also can't help but feel like they are just having their moment in the 'D2C darling' spotlight...I wonder about the longevity of the company, just as one looks for longevity in luggage, and I am unsure about both. My experience using it to travel (it was my cousin's that we shared for a trip) it was really easy to use and had all these little bells and whistles that were great. Definitely a functional product. Definitely not bad looking. Just feels kind of average all around though, and a company whose values I don't know if I support. I bought a Patagonia bag instead (very different feel, obviously more adventurous than smart casual) but I love it and it's been my favorite travel companion to date. If I were to buy a hard shell suitcase, I'd opt for either Paravel or, if I ever win the lottery, Rimowa.

I took one star off for the internal company culture because apparently Steph Korey created some seriously bad juju, and even though she stepped down as CEO, I don't know how much that has changed things. I took another star off because again - and completely my own personal opinion - I can't help but feel the brand is a bit overhyped.

I have the carry-on and it's sleek, yet totally functional. It's somewhat of a no-frill's bag, but feels very durable and has been with me on several trips with no complaints. The handle is secure and the wheels are fab! A little expensive for a bag, but worth it!

I've had my Away bag for YEARS and, even as dupes have come on the market, I haven't felt tempted to replace it. Recently, I got it from baggage claim only to see that the corner had been bashed in while it was in transit. (No clue how this happens on the hard shell.) Away's customer service has been pretty responsive while I've tried to locate the original proof of purchase to make good on the lifetime warranty. My boyfriend has the dupe from Quince, which does have a more comfortable and ergonomic handle.
A hight quality, well thought out product. They are easy to use and hard to damage, they’ve been apart of so many beautiful memories, I can not recommend this company enough!
i thought spending this much on luggage was silly, until i borrowed my husband's away carry-on (now it's mine, haha). the carryon really fits everything you need. durable AF - and i travel monthly. this has lasted 4+ years between the 2 of us
Keeps everything very safe inside.
Say goodbye to the airport outlet hunt thanks to the revolutionary built-in battery pack - it's a total lifesaver!

They seem durable enough. I have one and also have a small one for a child.
Huge fan of the brand! I had the smallest carry-on, the got the larger carry on. I then bought the largest one for longer trips. The quality is great. They are so durable and haven't had any issues. I've had the carry on since 2016 and is still in great shape. I finally convinced my fiance to switch. She was hesitant about the price, but was replacing her cheaper luggage every year.

Love the brand but I found the Large Bag to be too flimsy. I was disappointed with the quality and ended up returning it for another brand. Maybe the carry on would be more worthwhile.

Smart design and functional. A bit pricey!
To be honest, I got the pink carry on simply because they were going to get rid of that color soon. I did not expect to love this carry on, but it’s so spacious and I can fit a lot in there. I feel more reassured traveling with this carry on because I can lock it with a custom password and don’t have to worry about things falling out or people trying to steal my stuff. Plus this carry on looks so cute!

Bought one. Not sure will buy again. A bit old style.
