The Farmer’s Dog earns polarized reviews: many report healthier coats, better energy, calmer digestion, and enthusiastic eating, while others cite gastrointestinal upsets, greasy texture, and no improvement versus kibble. Strengths include visible, human‑grade ingredients and attentive, compassionate gestures, but repeated complaints target messy, non‑resealable packaging, strong odor, freezer space demands, and inconsistency in texture or batches—making it effective for some dogs yet impractical or unsuitable for others.

The trial I received was mass produced canned dog food that had been shoved in a plastic package and a label with my dog’s name. Neither of my dogs would eat their normal food (homemade by me) with the farmer’s dog food in the dish. The food looked NOTHING like the tv commercials. There was NO customization for my dogs. Horrible product, if you want to feed your dogs homemade food, make it yourself!

My 11 year old Skipperkee, Lacy Lou, decided to stop eating her mix of Blue Buffalo kibble and BB wet after we tainted it with mixing in an antibiotic following a surgery. Flat out refused for 3 days. I looked into Farmers dog and was shocked that it was going to cost $4.82/day for a 20 LB dog. $12/day is insane as one customer reported, likely for a larger dog. So, I decided to make my own "human quality" blend which consisted of browning 3 lbs of ground turkey, 1 lb of chicken livers, 1 cup of rice, and a mix of 1 lb of frozen peas, carrots, and green beans. I added nothing else, especially no salt, spices, or seasonings. I load up a 3-4 day serving in freezer bags and put them in a freezer. I still give her the dry Blue Buffalo kibble and now this new blend with her kibble, twice/day with about a half tsp of salmon oil She absolutely loves it. Lou seems more energetic and there has been nothing notable that is of concern. She's very playful and her stools are solid and look fine. Shiny coat and her weight has not altered. It's been about 8 weeks and I'm happy with the change. Oh and the best part... it cost around $24.50 to prepare a 2 month supply. That breaks down to .42/day! That's in cents... not dollars. I think Farmers dog may be convenient for those dog owners who don't either have the knowhow or time to prepare their own mix and can afford it. But for most middle income folks, it's not logical.

I feed it to my 2 german shepherds they liked it, but they ended up with liver failure and one died of lymphoma They where on only 4 years old. The vet said the fat content in farmers dog is really high I wish I had never feed it to them

This review is NOT about the food itself! It is about the terrible customer service. I used to buy Farmers Dog about 5 years ago for my dog who has passed. So, I am trying it again for my new dog and now the customer service has just been awful! They were 100% better back then for some reason. You used to be able to get your order 2-3 days after ordering. Now, it about 8-10 days! And, they still tell you it will be much sooner than it is. The women I just spoke with didn't have a clue to one question I asked her! It so frustrating when you call a company and they are so inept. I know we can text, but not once have they ever answered any of my several texts! I texted them, at least 6 times! I checked, it is the correct number, but no replies at all. My dog is a pretty picking eater, but I almost wish she wouldn't like FD, because I hate their customer service! I'm still going to try other fresh food brands that I haven't tried yet, due to this on going customer service problem. She doesn't like Spot and Tango or Ollie. So, I do see there are at least 7 or 8 more choices, I will be trying them. And, hopefully Farmers Dog will lose me and my dog as customers. I would like to mention that 5 years ago, they refunded all of my money, when my dog passed away about a week after I got my last order and, I didn't ask them to, but that was great customer service! They sent me a beautiful crystal vase with fresh flowers 💐, due to my dogs passing. The vase and the flowers were so beautiful and a complete shock to me. It seems like they may have changed? I hope my recent experiences with them, will change. Also, my rating of 6, is due to customer service. My dog does love the food.

My 2 yr old golden doodle has Gerd. She would regurgitate after every meal for the past month. I started making her eggs in the morning and Rice with a few pieces of grilled chicken breast. Sometimes that helped. We decide to try Farmer’s Dog after much research. Needless to say our Baby LOVE LOVES IT!!! She has not thrown up once and has her pep back!! Farmer’s Dog is worth every penny!!!!

My dog loves the food. She adapted with it very fast and very well, and this company has the best customer service ever. I totally recommend.

My Dog (Odin) loved Farmers Dog. With that said; The food did not agree with him. Mucus, diarrhea started immediately. I gave it a few days, thinking….. his system was adjusting. When it hadn’t subsided within the week, I contacted Farmers Dog. They were immediate in their response, and assured me this was normal. However, after the second week, I made an appointment with my Vet. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, with Odin’s overall health, other than being dehydrated from the chronic diarrhea. The food simply was not agreeing with Odin’s constitution. The choice was made in the 3rd week to take him off Farmers Dog. After 3 days, his diarrhea had completely subsided. Although Farmers Dog is clearly a quality product, it is not for every dog. Their customer service is absolutely phenomenal, as well !

Our pup, Yuna (18months) loves Farmers Dog. She has a sensitive stomach leading to soft poops and us looking everywhere for a food that works. Farmer's Dog has helped her so much. Yuna gets so excited to eat and is energetic and ready for each day. We do not have a huge budget so we use it as a topper which works great for us. We had recent loss in the family leading us to need to cancel our subscription. I was very stressed about the cancellation process but thanks to the easily accessable website it went smoothly. There was some miscommunication about the following order but after calling customer service it was all taken care of. Their customer service is the best I have experienced in a company. I will happily be returning to Farmers Dog again in the future thanks to my experience and their great quality food.

I received a free trial, on Black Friday, for my collie. He seems to love the food. I mix with his dry kibble. Will go slowly so as not to upset his tummy. So far so good. I also got a trial for my Grand dog German Shepard . He absolutely loves it. He doesn't always eat when he is with his parents. I am trying to convince them to add to his diet. I would recommend this dog food.

They truly cared about my dog's well-being. My beloved dog, Lika, passed away last week, and I couldn't even give her my last order from The Farmer's Dog. When I contacted them to inactivate my subscription, they not only refunded my last delivered order but also surprised me with a beautiful, large plant pot a week later. I was initially unsure of the sender but later discovered it was a thoughtful gesture from The Farmer's Dog. I cried a lot upon realizing this, appreciating their sincere consideration during this difficult time. My dog genuinely enjoyed their food until she couldn't eat anymore.

I tried this on a whim, after endless searching for the best dog food for my new pup. She never really liked dry food and had insanely bad GI issues on Hills Science Diet and Purina Pro Plan (brands friends and vets and everyone was reccomending to me). I decided to give Farmers Dog a try after realizing that a raw diet was just not in my cards to do for her right now. And she loves it! She licks the entire bowl clean and is always full. The packages come right on time, you can customize how frequently you need it, you can reschedule if something pops up, they send you texts/emails to remind you of the next box, and she loves all 4 recipes. The only thing to consider is the cost, but the trial box was 50% off and I'll take paying more for my dogs food if that means her GI issues arent a problem anymore. She has a shiny coat, endless energy, great teeth, and perfect poops on this food. Thank god honestly, it can be so hard to figure out what food works best for your pup.

Bought this for my two dogs. I assumed since they advertised that it was fresh human grade dog food that meant it was never frozen. After 2 weeks of waiting, the food showed up frozen solid. After thawing, one dog wouldn’t touch it and the other barely ate any of it. When I hear the word fresh, frozen never comes to mind… immediately canceled and threw it in the trash after trying to get my pup to eat it a second time and she again hardly ate any of it.

Our dogs love these meals. The Turkey / Chicken / Beef are the favorite. They will eat the Pork but prefer the others. I prefer the others as the Pork is a bit more difficult to get out of the bag. I wind up feeding them a bit more than recommended, and of course, a bit more weight has crept on. But once a day seems too long in between meals. So now working on splitting it into two meals per day. I find the food slips out of the bag a bit easier straight from the fridge. I tried letting them warm up a bit, but then you have to sort of squish it out. The dogs don't seem to mind straight from the fridge, would probably eat them fully frozen.

My dog loves the food and has been eating it for almost 3 months but he has to get up and go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. We feed him early and walk him but he continues to have have double the amount of poops. This is my complaint. I called customer service and got a girl who knew ABSOLUTELY nothing about the dog food. She recommended I increase the fiber and actually suggested buying pumpkin to add to the food. I explained increasing fiber would increase my dogs poops and she just said “ oh that’s right”. She then suggested I see which of the 3 dog food recipes was causing the problem, saying chicken has a lot more fiber than beef. I pulled out the recipe which showed they both had .3%. She said her information showed chicken had .302% and beef had .301%??? She had zero knowledge of the product and it was almost painful to speak to her. I will give it a few more weeks and decide if it’s worth the money. Local company also selling fresh dog food which may be worth trying.

My dog loved the food, but developed pancreatitis. Hated seeing her pooping blood and vomiting. Spent a few nights at vet. Took 2 weeks to get back to normal. Vet said food may have had too much fat for hers Back on Purina and doing well.

I ordered the trial introductory offer for my dog and my son's dog, who I sit for while my son works. I was very excited to try this out. My first complaint is the amount of packages that arrived for the 2 dogs. I went crazy trying to fit it all in my freezer. Luckily I have a small refrigerator with a tiny freezer out on my porch, so some went in there. However, it was all for nothing. Both dogs were not crazy about the food. They would only eat it if I added cooked chopped meat and added it in. I am not about to do that every day!

I wanted to love this company, but it's been awful with customer service. The trial was great. I felt that the packaging and amounts in the package were great. However, when the trial was over, I noticed a lot of water in the packaging. My dog was hungrier during the day. Additionally, the shipping is horrible. They claim to be "preparing" the food, however, when I called the other day, the woman over the phone told me that they're waiting on the carrier to come to pick up the food. When I followed up again, up they were telling me that the food was still being prepared. Now being within the window of being delivered. Mind you, when I had issues with this a month ago, they told me it takes two days in transit once it ships. I suspect that the 17-20th window will be late, as today is Friday. Additionally, they'll charge your card and not ship in a timely manner. So you'll always run out of food. Good luck with customer service being helpful, they're the worse! I'm switching to a different brand.

Our dog loves the food. So that's good. But they advertise 1 package a day so that's what we were giving our dog over a few weeks I noticed our dog looking for more food all the time. So we decided to look at the calories and weigh our dog. He was down 5lbs he needs about 3,000 calories a day. Well we have been basically slowly starving our dog. They can't raise the calories in the bag so we need to feed him one and a half bags a day in order for us to get him where he needs to be. So on top of the almost 200 we pay every week we will have to pay almost 200. more a month to feed him enough food. $600 a month for dog food is a lot. Our dog is a Belgium Malinois do he's not a huge dog. I think their advertising is for small dogs.

I have a 16 year old cattle dog. She has joint issues and vestibulars. Farmer’s dog has made an incredible difference. She has energy again, is finally at a healthy weight and feeling great. Her coat is soft and shedding has decreased.

I never leave reviews really unless it’s needed. The farmers dog has literally changed mine and my dogs life. When I say I have the fussiest eater in the world, I mean it. I would boil chicken and she wouldn’t eat it, I’d have to hand feed my girl to get her to eat. I tried soooo many things, and nothing worked. I finally gave in and tried the farmers dog and I’ve never seen my dog be so excited for dinner time. She scarfs the food down and even wants more, I’m like whose dog is this? She has more energy and is just overall so happy. Yes it’s expensive but so is our food we put into our bodies. I 100% recommend it.
