  • Ultra-creamy texture ice cream
  • Inventive seasonal flavor lineup
  • Aromatic freshly-made waffle cones
  • Impressive vegan flavor execution
  • Occasionally cloying sweetness levels
  • Hit-or-miss experimental flavors
  • Heavy, rich mouthfeel fatigue
  • Pints less vibrant than scoops

Salt & Straw earns largely enthusiastic reviews for richly creamy texture, inventive seasonal combinations, and standout classics like Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons, Salted Malted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Chocolate Gooey Brownie, Honey Lavender, and Arbequina Olive Oil; the brand is good and often considered worth the line. Reviews also flag drawbacks: experimental flavors can be hit-or-miss or overly sweet/rich, some find hype outpaces taste, and pre-packed pints trail fresh scoops.

  • Salted malted cookie dough is genuinely one of the best, if not THE best, ice cream I've ever had. Ever. And everyone who I've ever forced to try it has agreed. The brownie one is also top-tier. I'm not a super adventurous eater so I don't try their more unusual flavors - can't speak to those. But going with the classics will never disappoint.

  • Unique flavors and literally tastes high quality! One of my favorite ice cream brands for sure

  • Best ice cream ever! The vegan options are especially delightful.

  • This brand has the most original and full of taste ice-cream flavors. I had the olive oil ice-cream and it was delicious. Also you cannot miss their freshly made waffle cones. they are the best. I love that they are putting efforts into upcycling food.

  • Salt & Straw is hands down my favorite ice cream company! Every visit is a culinary adventure, and I can't get enough of their innovative and daring flavor combinations. What I love most about Salt & Straw is their commitment to using the best ingredients sourced from local farms and artisans. It's evident in the quality and freshness of their ice creams, which are made in small batches with great attention to detail. Their menu is a treasure trove of flavors, from traditional favorites to out-of-the-box creations that never fail to surprise and delight me. Each visit, I find myself trying something new, and I'm always impressed with the unique and imaginative taste profiles they come up with. As someone who values supporting local businesses and sustainable practices, I appreciate Salt & Straw's focus on community partnerships and reducing their environmental impact. It feels good to enjoy their delicious ice creams while knowing I'm also contributing to a positive cause. Every scoop of Salt & Straw ice cream is an absolute treat. The creamy texture, the perfect balance of flavors, and the overall craftsmanship make it an unparalleled experience. It's more than just ice cream; it's a culinary journey that leaves me eager for my next visit. In summary, Salt & Straw has captured my heart and taste buds with their exceptional ice cream creations, dedication to quality ingredients, and commitment to the community. If you're a fellow ice cream enthusiast looking for something extraordinary, I highly recommend experiencing Salt & Straw's delicious offerings!

  • oh my gawd. So delicious, all of them. The first indicator is the vanilla ice cream- decadent, unctuous, rich, and NOT TOO SWEET. This is always a green flag for an ice cream place. For those who like a more savory/salty ice cream, they've got what you need. For those who like spice: same. Vegan? You're covered. Every single box is ticked. The line out the door isn't just hype- it's also locals coming back from more. Very good (as in hefty) portion size as well, and you can try lots before you buy. Love <3

  • Salt and Straw's scoop shops (specifically on Abbot Kinney and in West Hollywood) offer a great customer experience, with rotating seasonal offerings that always taste amazing. Recently the stores smell like their perfume collaboration with Imaginary Authors, "A Whiff of Wafflecone" which smells great.

  • Salt and Straw offers an amazing range of flavors! Some that I am a little hesitant to try but are probably good! It's smooth, creamy, and delicious. I wish they sold their pints in stores so I wouldn't have to go into the city to stock up. Also, their store smells amazing everytime you walk in.

  • Not my favorite, the flavors throw me off sometimes and I am not a huge fan of any of the regular flavors, so not really a fan

  • Stand outside of any Salt & Straw retail location and get seduced by the sweet smell of fresh waffle cones. Love their unconventional flavors, like Strawberry Honey Balsamic w/ Black Pepper and Honey Lavender. But also can't go wrong with something more classic like Sea Salt w/ Caramel Ribbons or Chocolate Gooey Brownie. Jeni's Ice Cream is still my favorite, so I won't give it 5 stars ;)

  • I've only had Salt and Straw in person so can't speak to their pints but every flavor I tried was delicious and the waffle cone smell - 10/10. Special shout out for the low food waste line they're currently offering, the lemon ginger was the best of all the 8 flavors we ordered as a group.

  • Rich, creamy, delivers on taste. While I don't love every flavor (who does) - I love their innovative approach to flavors, their rotating menu & when I find a flavor I enjoy it's a home run. My go to order is a scoop of the chocolate brownie and a scoop of the marionberry coconut , while my husband swears by the olive oil. I didn't love their new Upcycled Foods Series flavors/taste (lemon curd didn't pack the punch I wanted) but I really appreciate their creativity & sustainability angle.

  • Inventive flavors that aren’t just a gimmick. You may be drawn in by the unusual flavor combinations, but it’s not just a novelty factor all their ice creams are legitimately outstanding. Creamy, fresh, with a fantastic balance of flavors and textures. Almost too much temptation.

  • Love their cereal inspired flavors!! 🤤 I only wish they were available all year round instead of being seasonal.

  • It's ice cream- of course it's good! Salt and Straw exceeds in unconventional flavors; they think out of the box without going too artificial and zany. I was able to try their blue cheese and pear flavor a while back and enjoyed it for what it was- blue cheese in ice cream. They have high quality product and I would absolutely return for their other flavors.

  • Salt and Straw makes my favorite ice cream in the world, the arbequina olive oil flavor. I’ve converted several people to the arbequina fan base and am always proselytizing. I’m a big fan of their rotating flavors and love that they play with savoriness and sweetness. I love that salt & straw usually has saltiness and straight milkyness to it, but I’ve heard from others they don’t enjoy that as much. The pre-packed pints aren’t as great as the fresh scoops and I’ve never gotten it shipped, so no insight there. Go into the store if you can and get the olive oil scoop plus the pear/bleu cheese. Heaven.

  • Love the flavors, the serving size, and the creativity! This was our go-to when we used to live in the Bay Area, and now that I'm in the East Coast I miss it! Their waffle cones are perfect.

  • i really like the unique flavors combinations salt and straw offers! sometimes the lines can be a bit excessive (being in portland where it feels a tad overhyped) but overall i do enjoy the ice cream and have brought home pints of my favorite flavors on several occasions.

  • Salt & Straw is not only delicious and unique ice cream but incredible customer service! When they first opened at location in Ballard (Seattle), they were so patient and kind and encouraged everyone to try as many as they liked! One of my favorites was the Beecher's Cheese :) I also love the salted brittle and ganache - yum! Salt & Straw fan for life!

  • I went to Salt and Straw in Portland, OR and while the wait to enter was discouraging it was truly some of the best ice cream I've ever had. The flavors were unique but not off-putting and the service was surprisingly fast given the crowd. I have not tried their offerings in the store but imagine they'd not be far off from the products sold in their home store.
