OLAPLEX reviews and discussion

Reviews mention

  • Noticeable bond-repair performance
  • Shine-boosting lightweight oil
  • Salon-fresh purple toning
  • Frizz-smoothing leave-in cream
  • Potential drying shampoo effects
  • Heavy, greasy feel on fine hair
  • Short-lived treatment results
  • Strong pigment staining risk

OLAPLEX earns polarized reviews: many report visibly stronger, smoother, shinier hair—especially with No.3 Hair Perfector, No.6 Bond Smoother, No.7 Bonding Oil, and the 4P Purple Shampoo—while others experience dryness, heaviness, greasiness, or no lasting improvement. Reviews suggest it can work brilliantly for bleached/blonde or damaged hair but may weigh down fine hair and effects may fade without consistent use; some users also mention fragrance concerns and allegations of hair loss or irritation.

  • I used Olaplex for several years. However, it got too expensive and I read about the lawsuit of many women experiencing hair loss patches from the product so I discontinued using it.

  • I've used EVERY SINGLE PRODUCT in this line, and absolutely love what it has done to my hair.

The only con is thet the purple (4p) doesn't have a strong lather. I sometimes feel my hair isn't as clean as I would like it to be. I am obsessed with the 3, and the oil is unreal. It's done amazing things for my hair.

  • I’ve always bleach my hair so it was fairly damaged. The whole system has really brought my hair back to life and it’s so healthy and smooth now!

    Feedback

I know this doesn’t work on all hair types but if you have fairly straight/wavy hair type it will definitely help.

  • I love these products. The conditioner, the oil and the the hair mask are all so amazing

    Feedback

Conditioner is so thick that it’s hard to get out of the bottle. I do it though

  • not really a fan of this, im not sure if it wasn't transitioned right on my hair but it made my hair stringy and feel heavy. i have coloured hair so this may have had something to do with that. it was a very average product for me.

  • I’ve tried quite a bit from their product line and most things I’ve absolutely loved. I started using no. 1 & 2 when bleaching my hair and the difference it made was amazing. It really helped keep my hair in good shape while putting it through such a rough process. I also use the no. 4 purple shampoo and the conditioner, as well as no. 8 once a week. I also use no. 9 after washing my hair. I can say that I love all three and would continue to purchase them. The Olaplex products I’ve tried have all helped keep my hair healthy and very soft. The difference it’s made has been quite noticeable.

The products work wonderfully but I feel the price is a bit high for the amount of product you get.

  • Have been using for over a year and don't really see a difference. probably good for dyed/damaged hair but doesn't do anything special for normal hair. would not buy full price

    Sale or special offer
  • Olaplex nº 5 works wonders on my hair. But I wouldn't say the same thing of all the products.I have blonde highlights and Olaplex nº 4P makes my hair dry, but it's true it does help maintaining blonde

  • i think it works pretty well and leaves my hair feeling strong and silky. a little goes a long way and worth the price

  • I have every Olaplex product and love it all. They are so moisturizing but don't leave your hair greasy. A little goes a long way, as well! I use the shampoo and conditioner once a week and the bonding oil on my ends when I am on my day two hair so it locks in the moisture!

  • I had used the 5 minute leave-in conditioner one time year ago and I lost SO much hair. I actually got so worried that it would continue to fall out. I will never use Olaplex again and advise anyone against using them. I have heard from so so many people that their products are not good and for how much is being charged, there are numerous other places you can take your money.

The products are full of all kinds of chemicals and I think that is what led to me losing so much hair in that ONE use. I would strongly advise against using Olaplex.

  • Highly overrated from Hairstylists. It is however a good brand and their products are good. There are other alternatives just as good as olaplex.

  • I think this product is overrated and made my hair greasy

    Feedback

I think the ingredients need to be cleaner and the product should be cheaper

  • I use the Olaplex No. 7 hair oil after I shower, and after I blow dry or straighten my hair. I have really damaged, coarse, and blonde-dyed hair that was at its worst a few years ago. Since the pandemic, I started washing it only once a week and applying Olaplex No 7. It's finally grown longer and stronger than it has been since I started dying it.

  • really good quality, does the job, hair be pretty silky, but it is pretty expensive for a small bottle

  • I recently tried OLAPLEX's bond-building hair care products and was impressed with the results from their number 3 formula. It definitely improved the damage and manageability of my hair. However, I found the shampoo, conditioner, and styling products (including the oil and smoother) to be a little too heavy for my 2b/2c very fine hair. Despite this, I would still recommend OLAPLEX to those with thicker hair or those looking to restore damaged and compromised hair. The bond-building formula does seem to be highly effective in improving the health and appearance of hair and I have found it to work better than most products on the market promising to repair bonds but other products leave a lot to be desired.

  • Before I accepted my gray hair, Olaplex is the product that helped keep my hair healthy from all of the damage I was doing to it.

The oil is amazing. Ask your stylist what is best for you with this product. It has only been available to them for years, so they can help you.

  • I have not tried this brand's shampoos or conditioners, however, I have been a longtime user (8+ years) of the No. 3 hair perfector. When I had bleached my hair for years from dark brown to white, this was a lifesaver. It is the only thing that kept my hair healthy and free of severe damage. I would use it 2-3 times a week. Now that I have had my natural color I only use it as needed. I don't see a huge difference in my hair. Probably just because there is less damage to repair. So I would say if you do not need serious repair, maybe this is not necessary. I have also tried the No. 7 bonding oil but did find that quite heavy for my fine hair. Other oils have been more successful for me.

Maybe more options for different hair types.

  • Makes my hair feel amazing. Use it once a week or so to give my hair a boost. Makes it shine and smooth.
