Reviews mention

  • Gooey-centered, crisp-edged texture
  • Iconic chocolate chip walnut cookie
  • Generous, melty chocolate mix-ins
  • Quaint, friendly bakery experience
  • Overly sweet, cloying flavor
  • Dense, heavy cookie texture
  • Frozen versions notably less decadent
  • Limited, repetitive flavor selection

Levain Bakery earns glowing reviews as a destination for ultra-thick, gooey cookies that many call the best—especially the classic Chocolate Chip Walnut and Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip—yet feedback flags drawbacks like extreme sweetness, dense heaviness, and inconsistency versus frozen or shipped versions. Reviews also praise warm, fresh-from-the-oven texture, generous mix-ins, friendly shops, and standout breads, while noting limited flavors and that some cookies taste too rich, dry, or overhyped for certain palates.

  • Anyone who gives Levain less than a 5 star rating should not be trusted. This is objectively the best cookie on the planet. So rich and gooey and warm and soft, they really are perfect. Also love how fast they take orders in stores (at least in NYC), there’s never a long wait to heaven in cookie form.

Literally no feedback, they are perfect in every way. But I do recommend going with someone so you can share. These cookies are so rich it is hard to eat one by yourself. They also ship! It’s a great gift for cookie lovers.

  • High-quality, dense, sweet and delicious. Soft and thick, they have a signature hint of sea salt to compliment the sweet smooth chocolate. These are the BEST chocolate chip cookies in NYC.

  • Cookie meets cake! These giant cookies are delicious—doubly so if you warm them up in the oven! The flavors are varied, but they stick to classics and avoid any grossly-sweet, gimmicky flavors. I The dark chocolate chocolate chip is my go to, but the oatmeal raisin and chocolate chip walnut are close seconds.

  • They’re iconic for a reason. Huge, fluffy, buttery cookies you can eat on for days. A must have when visiting New York. So excited they have expanded to stores!

  • Literally best cookie I’ve ever had. Totally worth the money.

Make sure to split it with a friend.

  • The cookies are outstanding, everything else is kinda mid. Service at the Noho location was great.

Some of the other baked goods are bland.

  • I've eaten a lot of cookies, across the US. Still haven't found a better cookie than Levain's simple chocolate chip cookie. I had it while in Manhattan, and it was heavenly.

Get the original chocolate chip cookie, and go in person if you can swing it. Well worth it.

  • These are the best cookies in the entire world. If you have the chance to try them, you must!

  • Once you have a Levain cookie, it's hard to imagine anything else topping it. Gooey and crunchy, fluffy and rich, it hits everything you'd want in a sweet treat.

  • Really not sure what the hype is about. Maybe they're not my style but in my opinion they're just okay. They're not soft and gooey they're very thick and dense. The dough itself has an off-sweetness to it. Not crazy about these like everyone else is, maybe I'd prefer a thinner cookie

  • OMG. I don't have a big sweet tooth but these cookies are TO DIE FOR. They are always gooey, warm, and somehow both thick and crunchy.

  • I thought the cookies were just okay - a little too big and a little too sweet! Definitely did not live up to the hype, although I would recommend everyone to try at least once because maybe they could end up being your favorite cookies!

  • Awesomely delicious! These big fat (did I say huge?) fresh cookies smell wonderful from the minute you walk into Levain Bakery! Whenever I'm in NYC visiting my kids, we ALWAYS go there! Crunchy on the outside, soft and gooey on the inside...I think I've tried every flavor! My favorites are dark chocolate peanut butter chip and the classic chocolate chip/chunk. As a bonus...you can now get them frozen at Whole Foods!

If they opened bakeries in Florida! That would be a great improvement!

  • After all the hype about Levain, I was stoked to try. The cookies are definitely delicious and I appreciate that they're loaded with gooey chocolate. They are definitely reminiscent of scones and worth trying. However, for the price I expected them to blow me away and I was a little disappointed at the consistency of the cookie itself. I'll still grab a cookie if I'm nearby though!

Would love a more moist/doughy texture to the cookie OR a more moderate price point.

  • Decadent cookies that are good every now and then. Cookies are as big as your head, super soft, and gooey so not for the crunchy chocolate chip cookie lover. Sometimes they're a bit too much and difficult to eat after a few bites.

    Different flavors, smaller cookies.

  • One of my favorite cookies ever. So thick. So husky. So decadent. Worth it every time.

  • HEAVENLY. Cannot be around them. Will eat them all.

    Organic would be better.

  • Really tasty cookie and perfect post dinner dessert
