Cards Against Humanity

Cards Against Humanity wins big in reviews for delivering uproarious, easy-to-learn party play that sparks belly laughs, quick bonding, and late-night chaos—especially with larger groups and expansion packs—so yes, it works. Reviews also flag clear drawbacks: humor can be crass/NSFW and alienating for sensitive or mixed-age crowds, cards lose shock value with repetition, and some prompts feel dated or hard to play with certain audiences.

In the realm of party games, Cards Against Humanity has ascended to near-mythical status, reigning as the undisputed king of irreverent humor and social awkwardness. Yet, beneath its thin veneer of edgy hilarity lies a game that is deeply flawed, both in its concept and execution. First and foremost, Cards Against Humanity is a game that relies heavily on shock value and unapologetically offensive humor. While there's no denying that some people find this type of humor genuinely funny, it often comes at the expense of actual wit and creativity. Instead of thoughtfully crafting clever responses, players are simply encouraged to blurt out the most vulgar or outrageous thing that comes to mind. You might as well just give everyone a card that says "your mom" and that would achieve the same of amusement. Furthermore, Cards Against Humanity's reliance on pop culture references and current events quickly makes the game feel dated and out of touch. As trends come and go, so too does the humor of the cards, leaving players with a collection of jokes that are no longer relevant or funny. Cards Against Humanity first came out in 2011, and it shows. This is a major flaw for a game that is supposed to be a timeless source of amusement. But perhaps the most damning aspect of Cards Against Humanity is its ability to reduce human interaction to a mere exchange of pre-written phrases. The game's structure completely removes the need for spontaneous wit and clever repartee, transforming players into passive participants in a formulaic game of linguistic regurgitation. In essence, Cards Against Humanity is a game that encourages players to abandon their own sense of humor and creativity in favor of parroting pre-written jokes that are often more offensive than funny. It's a game that revels in shock value and irreverence, but fails to deliver on genuine wit and cleverness. So, the next time you're tempted to break out a deck of Cards Against Humanity, pause for a moment and consider the alternative. Instead of relying on a game to provide your entertainment, engage in some real-life conversation and banter. You might be surprised at how much more fun and rewarding it can be.
Fun game and easy to travel with! I wouldn't recommend playing with your grandparents...

Hilarious-best party game, especially with the other packs they offer!
I haven’t played in a while but it’s such a fun game!
Fun game, especially around people that you can speak freely with. Making jokes and just overall having a good time. Just make sure you know the time and place for this game.

The cards always provide for a fun evening with the right group of friends. I will say, though, that after a bunch of times it does start to feel repetitive because you know the cards. And so it’s a bit hard to play with the same people over and over.
Fun concept but horribly offensive cards. I don’t think this game has held up well past 2014.
This is a fun game for adults but is not for the sensitive or faint of heart. Add on decks are an option as well as a large case for carrying/storing multiple decks.
Great group game! Very entertaining and I love that they offer expansion packs. Some cards can be very random and borderline offensive but other than that a fun game.
This game has been around for so long that the prompts are over done / outdated for comedy.
If you haven't played, what are you doing with your friends after a dinner party?!?! Don't answer that... This game is so funny and can be raunchy if you get the right set! I love the add on decks and that the game continues to evolve!
Funny game ... not for little kids since it's the most fun when it's the most raunchy. The first three times I played, the game was hilarious. But it starts to get redundant by the fourth time, at least for me. Maybe I need a booster pack.
It’s easy to learn, made from good quality materials. I would have given 5 stars but my family wasn’t hooked
A fun party game with friends.
Was good when it released, but it's falling off now. Expansion packs help revive the game, but I think it did have it's moment already.
Hysterical adult only fun. Definitely a game for friends who will let their freak flag fly together. Don’t recommend playing with easily offended family or friends. Makes for a gut busting, snort laughing night. Maybe not the best game to play with folks you’re meeting for the first time unless you are confident your humor is the same.

The best game to break the ice and get a good laugh out of everyone. We play this game all the time and we have so much fun doing it.
Our family uses the family-edition, and at times, we are ROLLING in hysterics. But there are still plenty of cards in the pack that are pretty gross/vulgar. This makes me hesitant to play with my younger kids without first taking the cards that reference bathroom-humor out of the pack. Perhaps we're too stuffy over here...
I have played this game many times with friends and even family members as a teen, college student and young adult. This game is hilarious and wildly outrageous with some of the card options. What I have noticed however is that once playing this game 30 times it starts to get boring because you end up seeing the same cards that once made you laugh aren't as funny the millionth time around. This game was extremely popular at parties years ago, but for people that have played it a lot they typically don't reach for this game anymore. I would recommend this game for people who have never played it before because it is very funny, but warning it is extremely adult content.
