Bachan’s earns strong reviews as a versatile, flavorful Japanese-style barbecue/teriyaki sauce that reliably elevates rice bowls, salmon, chicken, tofu, noodles, and more, with clean, simple ingredients and options like Original, Yuzu, Hot & Spicy, Honey Barbecue, and Gluten-Free. Reviews also flag drawbacks: the sauce skews sweet and notably thin/runny, some desire more heat in spicy versions, and packaging issues like clogged nozzles, pop-off lids, and plastic bottles detract from an otherwise widely loved staple.

Great sauce! Could eat a giant bowl of rice with just this (and ideally some Kewpie). I’ve also used this in marinades, and particularly love the Yuzu flavor and how that adds depth to fish and chicken.

Cost is a bit high, but I received as a gift and was delighted.

Really loved the look and feel of the product in hand, it was a sturdy bottle that never spilled. I liked the variety of uses that the sauce had and it tasted great too!

Only think I would say is that you needed to add a lot in order for the flavor to come through, not a bad thing, but difficult to use in some instances.

I find myself reaching for Bachan's original Japanese Barbecue Sauce daily. The condiment strikes the ideal balance between salty base notes, sweet top notes, a kiss of sesame, and a punchy throughline of ginger and garlic. Bold enough to fly solo on top of charred sweet potato wedges or as a steak sauce, Bachan also offers savory depth to balsamic dressing or a braise. I also appreciate the medium viscosity of the sauce. It has enough body to adhere to noodles and greens but stops short of veering into gloopy or syrupy territory.
