Best of Thingtesting4.3

A Dozen Cousins earns mixed-to-positive reviews, delivering convenient, clean-ingredient rice, beans, and marinades that many find flavorful—especially Cuban Black Beans and Garlic Lime marinade—yet inconsistent seasoning and occasional texture issues temper the praise. Reviews commend quick prep, added protein from bone broth, and versatile pairings, but note bland or odd aftertastes, clumping or hard rice, occasional off-putting smells, and comparisons to ordinary instant options.

  • I’m not someone who loves cooking, so anything that makes meals quicker and still tastes really good is a huge plus for me. I eat a lot of chicken and the A Dozen Cousins marinade makes it so easy to switch things up — tons of flavour with basically no effort. It’s become one of my go-tos. The garlic lime flavour is my fave.

  • A Dozen Cousins is a great brand for a quick meal. I tried the Mexican Cowboy pinto beans and found it was a great flavor. I like the fact that they are cooked in avocado oil for the health benefits. I also like the quick cooking in the package.

  • Delicious. Easy and quick to make in the microwave, made with bone broth which provides you with collagen AND they are using avocado oil (instead of the typical sunflower seed oil that is not good for us due to overdosing us on Omega-6). BPA free packaging is another plus. This is my new staple!

  • I loved this! I tried the Spanish Yellow Rice and it was delicious. I was impressed by the minimal ingredients, and the ease of heating it up. I opted to heat it up in a pan on the stove, and it worked very well. I thought the flavor was great. The only downside was that there were a few clumps in the rice that were difficult to break up, even though I broke up the rice in the bag as instructed before reheating. However, this did not affect the taste or experience!

In their own words

Growing up, our kitchen was a delicious melting pot of Creole, Caribbean, and Latin American cooking. As I got older and learned the importance of eating naturally, I hated that it was so hard to find convenient foods that were both healthy and authentic. I started A Dozen Cousins so that it would be easier to enjoy authentic cultural recipes made with whole ingredients. P.S. The brand name is inspired by my daughter, her 11 cousins, and all the great family dinners we enjoy together. Also, it's really fun to say ;) - Ibraheem
