The Ordinary reviews and discussion

4.5

Reviews mention

  • Ingredient-transparent formulations
  • Clinically effective actives
  • Minimalist, fragrance-free options
  • Wide, customizable range
  • Occasional sticky textures
  • Potential irritation from actives
  • Hit-or-miss product efficacy
  • Confusing layering for beginners

The Ordinary earns strong reviews for being effective and ingredient-focused: many users report clearer, smoother, more hydrated skin from staples like Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution, and the AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution. Reviews also flag weaknesses: some formulas feel sticky or pill, certain actives (retinoids, vitamin C, high-percentage acids) can irritate or be too harsh, results can be hit-or-miss by product or skin type, and the range can be confusing without research.

  • Some products worked extraordinarily and others just failed. Not using it anymore.

  • Good product, great price point. Nice amount of attempted education on the website. Would recommend as an easy option to try, wish there was more transparency with ingredients and added sustainability.

  • Definitely one of my favorite skincare brands that really helped me develop my routine. The products are simple and effective and beginner friendly. And the best part is how they work so well and are still so affordable.

  • I've tried quite a few products from the ordinary. The packing is always great. I love how sleek the designs are, especially in the glass bottles. (and they're reusable!) The price point is always very affordable especially considering the quality of the product. My skin has never had a bad reaction to any of the products and I have seen an improvement in my skin since using the ordinary. I'm a loyal customer!

  • Some of their stuff is EXCELLENT. The Ordinary is a great brand for affordable and simple skincare basics. Their Hyalauronic acid serum and their retinol are a regular part of my skincare routine. Their skincare leaves a white cast on melanated skin, and some of their skincare products don’t seem to do much (e.g. their niacinamide and zinc serum, and their salicylic acid serum), but skincare isn’t one-size fits all, and some people SWEAR by these products. I think they’re a great first stop when you start trying new skincare ingredients, but not necessarily the end of the line.

  • My favourite skincare brand. Love that all ingredients are presented to the user so clearly. Works really well and not too expansive. Will buy and have bought again!

  • Umm, as a lover of all things skin care but esthetician does not recommend this brand. The few products I have tried are not as high quality as other products I use which just does not help my skin as I would hope for it to. I know many who get it just for the convenience they can get it at Sephora!

  • The Squalene Cleanser and Hyaluronic Acid have been regular repurchases for my skincare routine. The price point is truly unbeatable.

  • Budget friendly, solid products. I multiple types of products from this line including vitamin C, a peel, Glycolic acid and a vitamin A treatment.

  • Many affordable and effective products. Also love the minimalist aesthetic.

  • It's really refreshing to find a brand who don't try to fit too much into one product, and let each thing stand on its own with a clear function. Multi-tasking skin care isn't for everyone. It's a shame the serum foundation was discontinued - I thought it was excellent, super gentle on the skin, light coverage. At the moment I am having good results with their hair serum following post-covid hair loss. I do think it's helped me weather later waves of hair fall better, and my hair feels more resilient and seems to be growing full and strong since using it.

  • Every single product I’ve tried has been great. The prices are very good considering the quality. I particularly recommend the glycolic acid, applying it to your face and armpits every few days. Maybe it’s in my head but it seems like it reduces bacteria noticeably

  • Affordable skincare although recently they did raise their prices a ton, their products are hit and miss, for example their granactive retanoid and buffet peptide serum are good while their sunscreen and moisturizer are not so good. The formulation and quality of the active ingredients is pretty bad so you do get what you pay for

  • I purchased a few of the ordinarys products because the quality seemed good for such a great price. Overall, nothing really impressed me about my results.

  • Love the pricepoints of all The Ordinary products. I have used the BHA mask for the last few years, and it's my go-to for a little skin detox. I would love if there was a bit more explanation on product benefits and what to mix/not to mix

  • The Ordinary is great. Their products are super affordable yet don’t compromise efficiency or quality. I love every product I’ve ever tried and I will continue to be a loyal customer to this brand!

  • I love Ordinary skin care products. Not only do their products work, but they are also affordable. I use the AHA mask once a week for a skin turnover and it leaves your skin feeling extremely soft. I highly recommend the niacinamide serum to help with uneven skin tone.

  • Simple formulations, the texture of some aren’t my favorite but the cleansers and acids are amazing.

  • I have tried a ton of TO products and you can't beat the price for the quality. My favorites are the rosehip oil and chia oil (which I used to buy from cocokind but TO's is cheaper), squalane, the AHA/BHA peel & the glycolic acid toner (I use it on my body instead of my face). Customer service has helped me with product questions and figuring out how to build my routine, which is SO helpful especially when you're not deep into the science like some skincare girles (I wish this were me). If you go for the sunscreen, just know the mineral one leaves a really heavy white cast so beware if you're planning on any photo ops. There is so much I want to try from this brand, and there are plenty of products to try. I have been and will be a customer for a long time.
