Reviews mention

  • Gooey-centered, crisp-edged texture
  • Iconic chocolate chip walnut cookie
  • Generous, melty chocolate mix-ins
  • Quaint, friendly bakery experience
  • Overly sweet, cloying flavor
  • Dense, heavy cookie texture
  • Frozen versions notably less decadent
  • Limited, repetitive flavor selection

Levain Bakery earns glowing reviews as a destination for ultra-thick, gooey cookies that many call the best—especially the classic Chocolate Chip Walnut and Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip—yet feedback flags drawbacks like extreme sweetness, dense heaviness, and inconsistency versus frozen or shipped versions. Reviews also praise warm, fresh-from-the-oven texture, generous mix-ins, friendly shops, and standout breads, while noting limited flavors and that some cookies taste too rich, dry, or overhyped for certain palates.

  • Delicious! You can't eat a whole cookie and the oatmeal raisin in the underdog - yum!

  • Get these cookies when you’re in the mood to really treat yourself. They’re thick, rich and delicious.

  • Love these cookies. They are huge and gooey and taste great

  • The freezer cookies taste bitter. It taste like old milk chocolate. They need more sugar which is very shocking for a cookie.

  • Brick and mortar has easy layout, is clean and efficient. Staff is friendly. Packaging/bag is cool and fun. Product itself is always delicious.

  • I love their cookies in store and frozen their also amazing!!! Idk how they got it perfect!!

I’d love more cookies per box!

  • One of the best cookies in America. The frozen cookies aren’t as good but still enjoyable.

  • The hype is real with this one. Yes, there are many copycat recipes but nothing beats the experience of going in to the store and having one freshly baked. Perfectly crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. The only thing is they definitely need to be eaten fresh... granted they're probably not going to last long. I just love them so much I'm prone to buy a dozen whenever I visit NYC.

  • Delicious cookies! It was honestly the best cookies I've ever had and I'm so glad I chanced upon their location in NYC.

  • OMGGGGGGGG THESE COOKIES. Holy moly. So decadent. Such a treat!! I highly highly highly recommend them. They're huge, like the size of a perfect scone. And sometimes when you're lucky you can get a warm one right out of the oven if you go to the stores. I can only eat a piece of them at a time, they're so rich in a great way. We had a ton leftover from an event once and I wrapped them individually and put them in the freezer and they thawed awesome and tasted the same as the day we got them. TRY THESE COOOKIES! The chocolate chip walnut is my favorite but seriously, they're all great. You can't go wrong. Try them!!

  • I am still dreaming of the huge chocolate chips cookie I had in New York last year - so juicy!!!!! I am looking forward to go back soon.

  • If you love a good thick and gooey cookie — this is it. I only get to go in person when I’m on the east coast but the stop is always worth it. The cookies are huge so I like to freeze them and save for later.

  • If I could give 10 starts, I would. Definitely worth the money and the cookies are quite sustantial in size in comparison to others so the price isn't obscene to begin with. Regardless, the flavors are there and they are all soooo worth it. The ultimate winner is the walnut and their last seasonal peppermint candy one. Their gift packaging is also amazing.

  • OMGOSH. I mean... These are incredible. My husband and I visited NY for the first time, and we had to try Levain Bakery (since it's said in so many places that it is the best cookie in the US). Okay... It might just be. These are so good. We tried the chocolate and walnut, the normal chocolate chip, and I had to try the new one with coconut. I love all the treats so this was a big highlight lol. We actually went to both locations - btw I suggest going to the original location as it was just so low-key and lovely - and we got some for our baby's godmother who was babysitting for us back home as a thank you... her fave was the chocolate on chocolate. Just delicious.

  • Their chocolate chip cookie is very very good. Their other cookies are just ok in my opinion however they have a full bakery of very delicious items. I would totally recommend their breads ! They do a chocolate one and a cinnamon one both are delicious.

Their staff are super friendly and nice ! Also enjoy walking in and being waited on. Their lines can be long but they move fast.

  • Delicious massive cookies!! Best hot from the oven and they melt in your mouth with each bite!!

  • High quality! These cookies are bit more pricey than your traditional chocolate chip cookie but it is definitely worth the splurge. These make an amazing treat and are best to eat right after having been warmed up.
