Altras are the most comfortable shoes I've found for my wide forefeet and bunions. I have the Lone Peak 6 in Wide and they have taken me up to nearly 14,000 ft. in Cusco, Peru. They're my go to for everything from adventure travel to running and hiking. I love them so much, and I wouldn't want to wear anything else!

I decided to try out the Escalante after developing some toe pain with my previous shoe. So far I have been extremely pleased with the shoe. I also love the colorway which doesn't hurt either :) When it's time to swap out my current trail runners I will probably consider another Altra

Altras are awesome! I switched over to Altras from Danskos at work I wanted a wide square toe box and this shoe delivered. I wish they still made the nice rose gold pink that was super fun! Really enjoyed those shoes. The only downside I saw was the tongue of the shoe, I got a couple of sores because it got into my ankle the way the tongue was build and the materials are a bit stiff and it was liked at cut angles. I would recommend a higher sock or some compression socks under the shoe. Great for your foot to have that natural feel of not being cramped in a narrow foot bed.

I love my Altras so much that I bought 3 extra pairs when they discontinued my favorite style. And that's the reason for the docked star. I find the Escalantes too thick and I feel lethargic in them when I run. The discontinued model, which I can't remember the name of, had a thinner sole but not barefoot and it was PERFECT! In general I love that Altra makes natural toe box shoes _without_ being barefoot shoes. So if that's what you're looking for. Go there :)
